🌸Interview(12): Sealed in Darkness

Hey! Hey!🌹

Another beautiful day in the garden today and I have with me, another eligible bachelor, who is eligible not just because he is hot and smart, but because he is a Wattpad ambassador😋💍

'All these fine fine guys with plenty brain'😋

This author is one of the cutest and friendliest CEOs on Wattpad🎩. Oh yes, he is the founder of the ever welcoming community on Wattpad👭👬 TheGemCommunity

I am talking about. . .

McSidney

(Crowd goes wild with love💕💕💕)

Yes, yes, show him love, he deserves 'em😁

McSidney is the author of so many wonderful books, one of which is the "Death's Bride", but our focus today is going to be on another dark fantasy of his which is, "Sealed in Darkness", below is a sneak peak;

🎦🎦🎦🎦

🔂▶⏩
(🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵)

Li: Please tell me, how did you come up with this story, what was your inspiration?

Mc: Hmmm. . . let's say sealed in darkness was more or less a test. . . 😀
I got inspired by a few dark and high fantasy images I saw on Pinterest.

At first I had plans on basing the story  on a badass supposed OP character, who is dreaded and feared, but is afraid of one person, one of the emperors of Ekron, his former master (this is a VERY big spoiler. . . 😅!) But as I was creating the whole world, I had to split the role of MC into three, which was still from the images I got on Pinterest.

Li: So basically you got the idea from viewing picture prompts on Pinterest. Chai, I wish I could do that 😪

Sophie: Brain dead!😝

(Glares at Sophie)

Mc: 😂

Li: The fight between Ekron and Vyorn was really epic!
How did that part of the story come up! I know it's like the Genesis of the story but how did you cook it up?

Mc: That chapter was meant to be a filler but also an important part of the story because without it there would have been a lot of misunderstandings with the early progression of the story.

Li: Hmm, tell me about Ekron and Vyorn

Mc: Ekron and Vyorn belong to a race of gods. They belonged to the Ultiars class of gods.
These Ultiars were like gods to gods, the pinnacle of power among both men and other smaller gods.

Li: In the story, you mentioned they were related, but why did they fight each other like that?

Mc: Vyorn and Ekron were siblings and their parents were the Ultiar Lords who retired— (there is a term for this, but I'm trying to prevent too many spoilers)— 😁

Li: Don't worry that's Sophie's job

Sophie: Your number one Spoiler Notifier! 👮Call me the Spoiler Police!

(Yeah, right)

Mc: Okay. . . so their parents were meant to pass the baton or leadership torch to Ekron as he was the oldest but they feared the fate of other gods and humans.

Li: I know Ekron is evil but, why did his own parents not trust him?

Mc: They couldn't trust him with leadership because of his secret, malignancy and darkness.
The baton was then handed to Vyorn and this drove him mad.

Li: Ha! 🤔So that caused their fight?

Mc: Yes. Ekron chose to rule by force and thus the war between him and Vyorn.

Li: Such a cruel brother. 😑
I have another question though, since they are gods, shouldn't they be immortals?

Mc: Ultiar gods are immortal so it was impossible to kill them but Ekron found a way to end the other Ultiars with Vyorn as the final piece on the board.

Li: Vyorn being the final piece means she was a hard one to put down, how did he do it?

Mc: Being royalty, Vyorn was exceptionally powerful and he had to exchange himself in order to seal her.

Li: Ekron and Vyorn story could stand on its own, why did you bring in the protagonists?

Mc: Sealing Vyorn isn't the end of her. He foresaw her servants trying to save her in the future. An impossible task but very much possible.

So, he gave up his powers of darkness to his most trusted aide to carry on in his stead, and try to slay those who would try to resurrect Vyorn.

So yeah... This brings light to the three protagonist who have no idea of the past but find themselves following paths they normally wouldn't.

Li: Speaking of the three protagonist, how do you plan on managing them?
It's already hard to manage one protagonist talk more of three!

Mc: Honestly, it's really hard. . .
The system I earlier adopted was to dedicate a chapter or two for each  of them, starting from their early journey until they meet up in the nearer future. I don't really know if it's welded in well, because I felt like the sudden atmosphere shifts might be a bit off. . .but currently, I am working on that, that's why I haven't published new chapters.

Li: Well, as a reader, I will speak for all readers. Sometimes we get connected to a story that we don't notice the writer's struggle, whatever you do, just keep giving us good twists.

Mc: Oh yeah. . . thanks

Li: Good!
Let's now go into the characters, starting with Milen Geyr! He is so strong and hot! 💥💥

Yes, I have to admit I love hot and cute men, both in books and real life! There is no crime in drooling from a distance!😍

Back to Milen, what inspired his creation?

Mc: For Milen, I needed a character who isn't guided by emotions. Someone who wouldn't hesitate to slit your throat.

Li: Sounds like a villain. .  but I love him still😍

Mc: No, he isn't a villain.
I wanted him to be the bridge between the other two protagonists: stunning, flirtious, deadly, feared and at the same time, kind and understanding.
And I needed someone capable of wielding a katana and a pistol. . .
A killing machine.
And that is Milen😁

Li: *Fans herself* my Milen😍. . .so hot!💥💥

Fun question, there is a part Milen sniffs his pants before putting them on.
Now I have seen quite a number of males do this. It's either they are sniffing their t-shirts or even underwear (don't imagine how I know the last part, 😊)

My question is, is it a guy's thing to sniff their garment before putting them on?

Mc: Well, taking into consideration the setting of the story: "dystopian future", they are with limited resources, based on the locality he stayed, so hygiene isn't the first thing on his mind.
And sorta, boys. . . most boys sniff their clothes to be sure it can be repeated,  😂😂

Li: 😂😂😂, that's crazy.

Sophie why are you staring at me like that?🙄

Sophie: How did you know boys sniff their 'undergarments'?🙄

W-whaat? I said that?☺

Sophie: Yes you did!🙄

Sophie you are distracting me, I'm in the middle of an interview!😏

Sophie: 🙄🙄

Li: (Ignores Sophie) ☺
let's talk about Akillim, that scene where he found his family murdered was gruesomely epic! Damn! You killed it! *drops mic*🎤🎤🎤
How did you picture such artistic destruction!😈

Sophie: 🚫Evil 101 class📝

Mc: 😹, it really was artistic.

Li: Akillim is a very weird kid, how did you manage to write him?

Mc: I see more of me in him (my bitchy side..😆)
So writing him and his personality was a bit easy: socially distant, sassy, not physically strong and incredibly smart😎

Li: How about his background story, how did he turn up like that?

Mc: His ancestry and back story is a bit sad. He was always distant from his immediate family. He hated his father for always being unavailable and preferred staying alone, away from people (we share this in common 😄)

Li: You seem to share a lot in common, you sure he isn't your fictional incarnate? 😋

Mc: 😂, perhaps! We practically share a lot in common!

Li: For Sophie's weak heart sake, 😃. Why did you have to kill his family? Even if you had to kill them, why did you have to make it so horribly artistic?😇

Sophie: for your mind, you're speaking English?🙄

Li: Durrrrhhh 😁 Don't pay her any attention jarey, go on with your answer.

Mc: The first gore-y scene was meant to portray a lot, other than setting him in pace for his adventure. It was to show how his family died for his sake, a burden he will have to bear until he can redeem the debt and to also portray his father's true emotions.
So the scene was meant to show every of those, in much details as I could give up at the time.

It was also to make certain that his  parents' death was not ordinary and he was the main target and not them.

A bloody burden Akillim will have to bear. . .

Li: Wow, you know, out of the three of them, it's Akillim I didn't really like but now I think I like him a little bit more. His story is a very sad one.

Mc: Most people didn't like him too... 😁

Li: Another question on Akillim; The part where he escaped from the bodyguards because he is sick of them; what would have been the outcome if he actually went back to his guards?

Mc: If Akillim went with the guards, it would have still ended the same way it did.
One, the first task of every guard is to 'guard', so they would've tried to engage the Wendigo, a creature they had no idea of, or how to deal with.

Li: I think Akillim could have atleast been with them and not on his own.

Mc: The bloody creature had killed every other guard in their mansion, so how will two stand a chance?

Li: But atleast he would have gotten home earlier and maybe rescued his father perhaps. . .

Mc: If the guards engaged the Wendigo, yes, Akillim would have had more time to run but his father would've still died because he would also want to buy more time for his son to escape.

Li: But Akillim is so knowledgeable! He could have thought of something!

Sophie: Lilly! You are starting to over react! The man is dead, let him stay dead! 😤

Mc: Even with Akillim's knowledge on the creature, it would have required more time to find enough equipment to kill the Wendigo.

Li: How sad. . 😔

Let me take you back a bit;
What was that father Benedict's problem with Ailith na?😤
It was as if he wanted something else from the poor woman and since he didn't get it, he decided to plot her death!

Mc: There's kind of a very huge twist with dear father Benedict, but I'll deliver a little less spoiler as possible.

Sophie: My hands are hovering on the buzzer ❎🔕🔇

Mc: 🤓Benedict was a servant to one of the Emperors of Ekron and Ailith Doucette being a witch, a direct lineage to Vyorn in terms of servitude, she was a threat and a powerful one.
You must have heard of the great purge, Salem witches trial and the burning of witches in Europe.. .

Li: Yeah, I have heard of those stories.🤔

Mc: Yeah, so Ailith Doucette was alive in those times, and this persecution was led by the servants of Ekron, to kill off potential threats, with the disguise of doing the Lord's will.

Li: She was a duchess, why didn't the King do something?

Mc: Outrightly accusing a duchess would not hold too much result, so he had to manipulate the King in order to try Ailith, knowing pretty well that as a witch, her first priority is to protect men and not herself.

Sophie: Omo!, the priorities of the witches in my village isn't to protect o! Kill or be killed!😝

Li: This isn't about the ugly witches in your village!🙄

McSidney, something still bugs me though, since he is a servant of Ekron, why didn't he just battle with her?

Mc: She was too powerful for him to go toe to toe with😏

Li: Chai! I thought Father Benedict wanted her romantically or something, this is so sad. 😣

Mc: Lol. . .Nahhh he didn't want her in that way.

Li: By the way, I love the history twist you added in that part of the story. Great back story!

Moving on, who is your favourite character?

Mc : Milen Geyr 😁
He's so gray. . . 😁

Li: Lol, is that your attempt at rhyming? 😂😂

Please pick another character because Milen is mine! 😒

Mc: Okay, I'll go for Ailith.
Ailith is pretty sweet, she grew from a weak character to one of the strongest.

Li: Awww, yeah Ailith is truly sweet.😍

So what is your favourite scene in the book?

Mc: I am not really sure, because there are a few I wrote and can't help but love them.
But if I'm to pick, I'll say Milen's first chapter and the currently last chapter about the Man beast.
Also I love Ailith's chapter in the castle.

Li: Yeah, Milen's first chapter was really something. . .but as the Evil Overlord, I preferred Akillim's family slaughter scene! That was epic! 😆

Sophie: Evil!🙄

Mc: That scene was a bit tragic. . but it had to happen.

Li: Yeah, and I love it.😍

So what part of the story proved really difficult to execute as a writer?

Mc: Uhmmmm. . . I'll say writing Akillim's chapters was a bit difficult because it required more dialogues than actions and the fewer actions there had to be streamlined. Unlike Milen and Ailith, their actions didn't need to be held back in any way. So, Akillim's chapters were a bit tasky.

Li: What is that one message you want people to get after reading 'Sealed in Darkness'?

Mc: Strength and hope to pull though!

Although, it is shown in a very dark and twisted way. . .😄

Sophie: I love Dark and twisted! Say more! 🤗🤗

Mc: 😄😄
Basically the message is Hope.
Especially when you are in the midst of your fears, or your darkest moments. .
There's that one beacon you need to look close enough to see and once you find it, it'll lead you to freedom. All you just have to do is see it and grab it.

Yet again, "Sealed in Darkness" is a dystopian high fantasy, that hope is represented in a very dark and gore-y way.

Sophie: Say More! Say More!🤗🤗

Li: Sophie are you alright? 🤔

Anyway, I think whether it's in a fantasy book or a chit lit novel, or even real life, we all need that beacon of Hope!

Okay, random question; if you were to pick between waking up in a Zombie world, a Vampire world or a Werewolf world, which would you pick?

Mc: Vampires, given that I'm one of them, but if I'm not, I'd go for werewolves , since they tend to be a little less devious and openly aggressive compared to the blood suckers. . .

And keep me far away from those walking dead, I literally cringe at their sight!😣

Sophie: Finally! Someone that understands what it means to be a Werewolf!🐺

Li: Hahah!😾
You guys are no fun!😤
Werewolves are savages!👹

Mc: Yes, they are. . but you can talk your way out of a cold murder🐺

Li: I beg to disagree!😾
Vampires are more civil and will most likely listen to your pleas 😏

Mc: Naah.. Werewolves have control over their blood lust. . unlike Vamps..

Li: I am going to end this argument here, because if I continue, it will take us ten interview sheets!!😤😤😤

And yes, I'd take my chances with the vamps!💀

Sophie: Blood Sucker!🙄

Li: Anyway, Who made your teaser? It's really cool, it made me love the book even more!

Mc: I made it myself. . .😁

Li: You did! 😮
Waoh, sincerely it is good. It took the whole thing to another level.

Why didn't you give it to someone else to do though?

Mc: I believed that I was the only one who could give enough details of "Sealed in Darkness" although, it ain't perfect. . 😄

Li: I think it is perfect.😊

Anyway, we are almost at the end of the show, before you go, what book would you recommend?

Please don't recommend a Werewolf story, I won't read it!😾

Sophie: I WILL💃💃

Sophie, you have been demoted! 😾

You are fired!😤

Mc: 😂😂 I wasn't going to recommend a Werewolf story. . .😂

I am recommending "Tethered Souls" by OnceUponALily, I think the story is pretty dope.

Li: Oh thanks for recommending that book, it really is a sweet book.

Who are your shout outs going to?

Mc: I have quite a few, AiKayHana, OnceUponALily, shadow_ivywrites0, Purple_Ocean05 and timi_flex

Li: These are all our Gem Community people, Yaayy!💃

Mc: Yeah. . . TGC is my Wattpad home😊

Li: As in. . . it isn't easy to be a CEO🤓

Nnaah eeehn, this guy just went from number two on the list to number one! He is too much!💪💪

Sophie: 🔔🔔🔔🔔🔔🔔
(rings bell and plays the Igbo traditional flute)📿

Mc: CEO... 😂 I don't actually see TGC as something I created, I see it as OURS. . .

Li: chai, and he is so humble...😍

Una ehnn my scale will break today📈

That reminds me, Sophie abeg ring that bell for me!☺
I am too much!😄

Sophie: 🔔🔔🔔🔔🔔

Li: Yes! 😁
I told y'all I don't bluff! 😁😁
