🌸Interview(11): Heir to the Empire

Welcome to my garden filled with the most amazing books on Wattpad😋 (argue in the comment section, if you think I'm bluffing!👹)

Today, I have the author of the most intriguing book I've ever read on Wattpad! (right after A different Virus😆).

"Heir to the Empire", written by the ever sweet and handsome. . .

(Drum rolls)

RobClark5

I told y'all I was gon' be interviewing only the cutest guys on Wattpad😋

I never lie. . .

Before we move further, lemme give you guys a little extract of the story;

🎦🎦🎦

"What begins as a run for her life ends by being a road to discovering and realising her true power...

Pursued by Death Wraiths and hunted by the usurper, Loldirr must embrace her destiny in order to survive and unite the land against the most dangerous enemy the world has ever known. The Necromancer.."

Li: So Rob, what inspired this beautiful story?

Rob: The inspiration is a bit of a weird one, but basically the concept came from a computer game called "Age of Wonders2".

In it, you control a wizard who controls a realm which has powers based on the six elements that I've used in my story; Earth, Fire, Wind, Water, Death and Life.

I loved the concept of this plus the characters you could choose from along with their powers.

My mind got working and from that little snippet an entire world was created.

Li: It's amazing how authors get their inspirations. I use to think inspirations only came from weird dreams, LOL.

Rob: Would be an awesome dream if I imagined that, :D

Li: What made you decide to settle for the title "Heir to the Empire", why not Elemental sorceress or WraithSlayer?

Rob: Originally the title was, 'The Elemental Sorceress', however it bugged me.

Li: Lol, why did that bug you, I think it was cool.

Rob: I always felt it was a little cheesy. 😌

Li: How about WraithSlayer?

Rob: Until a couple of weeks ago, Wraithslayer didn't exist, so missed the boat there. 😁

Li: Yeah, so back to my original question, why "Heir to the Empire"?

Rob: The story is basically the introduction to the chronicles of Loldirr and as she is the 'Heir to the Empire', it felt fitting to call it so.

Li: Yes, the title is fitting, but like you said we are looking at an entire world here. With that title, aren't we loosing the whole Elemental sorceress thing?

Rob: Loldirr's story is still part of the Elemental sorceress series, so the title has not been lost.

Li: True.

So, let's move on to the characters, who is your favourite?

Rob: I don't really have a favourite. Each character has their flaws and perks. Each one has to overcome difficult obstacles in their own individual ways, and they all deal with them in varying degrees of success.

Li: Hmm, most people would pick the protagonists or even antagonists, but you love all of them. Even the minor characters?

Rob: Yeah, some of the minor characters end up becoming more prominent as I write more about them.
Case in point, Chrys.
She started as an extra, but the more I wrote and developed her, she became so interesting that I now have plans to make her a key figure in the second book.

Li: YAY! That'll be great! 💃💃
Chrys has really grown to become a very strong and important part of the story. I can't wait to see more of her!

Speaking of minor characters, let's talk about Willis Billingslea. It seems to me like you created him for the sole purpose of killing him. Explain yourself in my court! 👮

Rob: Haha!! Harsh, but yeah kind of.

Li: So you are admitting to creating him only to have him killed in the end! 👿

Rob: The story isn't about the start or finish, but more of the journey and this is the journey of Loldirr.

Li: So because it's her journey, you killed her best friend! 👿

Rob: She couldn't be who she is without the harsh realities of life. And as it's of a medieval setting, the realities are super harsh for the poor woman.

Li: And you keep making it even more difficult for the young woman. I should get you arrested! 👮

Sophie pass me the cuffs! 💫

Sophie: Uhn! We cuff our favourite writers now? 😕

Rob: Loldirr's going to go through hell to achieve what she needs. You are both Loldirr's, fans aren't you?

Li: Yeah, I am the captain of the fan club!
#Team_Loldirr Forever!

Sophie: Well, truth is, all the characters in Heir to the Empire, are lovable. I looove Loldirr but sometimes Aryya, the desert viper takes her spot in my heart. Sometimes.

Li: Yeah she is one hell of a character. If Erdudvyl didn't exist, I would actually vouch for her and Ethelston.

So what was your favourite scene?

Rob: I have some key sections I love to get to. I was absolutely desperate to write. The best ones were;
-Loldirr's first encounter with the shadow.
-When she first identifies her powers.
-The fire scene at Lionmane.
-Erdudvyl and Sir Gervais Vanderbilt.

There is a couple of key scenes to come, the most I'm looking forward to is near the end, also invoking Sir Gervais Vanderbilt.

Li: Those scenes were really dope. But if you were to pick one, which would it be?

Rob: My favourite to date though, is the fire scene at Lionmane.

Li: Ooh that scene was EPIC! I almost— wait — I FELL off while reading that scene! 💥💥💥

Rob: Man! it must have been truly epic to achieve that!

Li: Yes it was.
Another one that got me screaming, was the fight Ethelston had with the Punisher. God! I was so scared. 🙀

Rob: It's Ethelston, he loves to make a scene!

Li: What scene got you excited Sophie?

Sophie: The FIRE SCENE! Oh that really got me.
Also the phasing part of Erdudvyl, I was on edge! 👾👾

Li: Yeah that phasing part was also intense, but Loldirr did it😁

Next question Rob, why does Sir Gervais want to kill Erdudvyl? I thought they were finally going to have a death wraith on their side. . . 😳

Rob: It's a complicated one with Sir Gervais.
Just before his death, he completed a ritual that turned him into a Death Wraith.
Death Wraith are susceptible to the powers within the realm of Death, a realm controlled by the Necromancer.
Therefore, he's a minion of the Necromancer and fulfilling his bidding.

Li: Wait! Does that mean he won't have his revenge on Nimue? I was HOPING on that revenge! 🙀🙀

Rob: Unfortunately, I can not confirm or deny that happening. 😏

Li: Oh my God! This makes things so much harder!

I and Sophie were having a discussion the other day about who you could possibly kill next. Our conclusion was Jarendrud. Are we on the right track?

Rob: Haha! That would be telling 😂😂😂

Sophie: Yup!❌❌❌

Li: Easy with the buzzer, these answers would serve you too! 🙄

Okay, what was the hardest chapter/scene for you to write?

Rob: Hardest would be the filler chapters. They are difficult to write because I have to try to keep the pace and also make it relevant .
I'm currently on that stage, with the battle of Ravenscourt on the way. But every bit leading up to it is as important as the event itself.

Li: My heart skips a beat each time I remember the trial Loldirr has to go through with those tribe people. 😣😥

As a male, do you think it's easier writing a male character?

Rob: Yes and no.
I try not to stick my characters into boxes, meaning they have to be written a certain way.

Women are very different to men for sure, but then each woman is different to the next, just like each man is different to the next.

Jarendrud is nothing like Ethelston, who's nothing like Sir Gervais.

Just like Loldirr is completely different to Erdudvyl who is completely different to Chrys.

A character responds to their surroundings based on their characteristics rather than their sex.

Li: You are saying the challenge is pretty much the same, whether it's a male or female character?

Rob: I would say so.
Imagine my characters were offended by someone.

Ethelston is brash— Therefore he'd probably hit them.
Loldirr is occasionally aggressive — she'd probably respond in a similar matter .
Erdudvyl is calmer and more thought provoking — She would consider her next steps before reacting (unless they were human)

Li: The part about Erdudvyl loosing her calm when it comes to humans got me smiling.

Do you think your depiction of women's reaction is genuine?

Rob: I suppose you could say that no one has complained that my depiction of women is incorrect, so I would like to think that their reactions are genuine.

Li: Yes, your depiction of women's reaction is genuine.

Going back to Erdudvyl, why did you make the elves so egoistic and full of themselves?

Rob: As well as having to give characters personality, each individual race needs a collective personality.

Elves aim for perfection, and they believe themselves the closest to it. The race is built upon beauty and superiority.
Therefore, when it comes to the likes of other races, the fact that they don't adhere to the same ideals makes them inferior.

Li: That's horrible! They can't expect every race to be like them! 😤

Rob: Sounds horrible, but it's even common in today's society. While aiming for perfection is something to strive to, just because others don't achieve that perfection does not make them wrong but unfortunately that's how some people perceive others.

Li: Yeah, you are right about that.
Speaking of beautiful messages, what's the general message you plan to share with this story?

Rob: Adversity breeds character.

There's multiple ways to deal with horrible situations. But it's how you deal with situations that defines your character.
That's rather deep.

Li: Definitely Deep!
Let's dump all the serious talks

Where you planning on breaking your readers teeth with your characters' names?  😷
I mean how do I pronounce 'Thjodoflsson'? Or even 'Aex-igh'? 😰

Rob: 😂Haha! The names bring the exotic nature of the story.
Names are always hard to come up with. They need to depict the character's location and ethnicity.
Aex-igh' is simple, A-X-I, nice and straightforward.
As for Thjodoflsson', yeah I struggle with that too.

Li: If you struggle with it, why did you name a character that? 🤒

Rob: I wanted to give an Icelandic feel to his name. 🃏

Li: So how do I pronounce it?

Sophie: Lilly he said he struggles with it 😞

I don't care! He created it, he has to pronounce it 😤😤

Rob: 😂I'm guessing Hoy-Dolf-Son. Though I am sure Scandinavians will pronounce differently.

Li: (Tries pronouncing it) 🤒

Oh my poor jaw! 🤕🤕😖😖

Where did the inspiration for the Elves language come from?
That people is another jaw breaking language!! 🤒

WARNING: Don't try it at home!

Rob: It's Old English.

Li: Whaaat!? 😱

Rob: Yeah, like really old English. I love Gaelic or Celtic languages, so I wanted to find something similar.

At some point, I plan to make a website which will have the words and translations as it's hard for me to keep up with the language too. 😩

Li: Wait, are the spells also in this language? 🤒

Rob: Yes, basically all the same but incredibly difficult to pronounce language.

Li: Incredible — doesn't even begin to qualify it. 😖

Another fun question, when are you going to find a lover for Loldirr?
That girl is due for some love in her life! 😝😝

Rob: She will get one, however not in Heir to the Empire. There is a lot in store for her and her future lover. 😍

As you can imagine not all of it will be fun. . .

Li: Hmmm, I can't wait to meet the young lad that steals my huntress' heart away. 🤗🤗

Sophie: At a point I thought Ethelston was going to be the one.. 🤔

Until Erdudvyl stole him away. . . 😅

I feel like they have a sort of brother and sister relationship, it was never gon' work anyway, they are both too aggressive. 😎😎

So we have come to the end of the show, who are you recommending for us?

Rob: My recommendation is 'Leady Reaper Reianne' by RFNasua Super surreal book!

Li: hmm she'll come and explain that surrealism 🕵🕵

Who are your shout outs going to?

Rob: hmm, can't shout out to you and Sophie, can I?

Li: Of course you can! 🙈🙈

Rob: Then both of you deserve a shout out!!
Another goes to Renegade_Russkiy and WinterSleep85, who are both very talented writers

Li: Awww, let me tell you a little secret.

Everyone knows that I created this interview shop to help books gain exposure and also serve like some sort of recommendation shop.

What people don't know (but are gonna know now! 🤓) Is that I created this interview shop after becoming a fan of Heir to the empire 👑. I wanted other people to find the book and fall in love with it. I want this book to get a million reads! Loldirr's story deserves to be heard!

Rob: Oh wow, thank you
That means a lot to me, especially since I always have ups and downs when I question my ability as a writer.

I'll be honest, both you and Sophie, and your constant comments have been the main reason I've kept going on Wattpad.
Once again, I'm super honoured. 😊

Li: You are most welcome
