Chapter 5
Matéo Santiago's POV
I have been waiting for almost 30 minutes!
What is the hold up, I wonder.
Then I see her.
She bounds, down the stairs, quickly, coat flapping about as she descends the stairs.
She looks good.
She must have seen the closet I had prepared for her previously.
I hope she liked it...
She makes eye contact with me and walks towards me.
"Sorry that I'm late" she says.
"I lost track of time and I-" I cut her off.
"It's fine, you're here now, so we can go" I say.
She nods.
"Okay" she responds simply.
I open the door and let her go out before me.
She walks out, with a quick thank you.
I lead her to the garage and her eyes widen.
"Woah!" She exclaims.
She looks at all of the cars.
So she likes cars?
This is the most interest she has shown since she got here.
I smirk and suppress a chuckle.
I make myself sound as bored as possible, despite the fact that I'm really eager to see her response, as I say "Pick one".
She turns to me.
"What, to get to the café in? I really don't mind, we can just go in any-" She starts but I cut her off.
"No Adeline, pick the car that you want" I tell her.
She gapes as it suddenly clicks.
"No, I don't think that will be necessary..." She starts, stepping back.
She understandably doesn't trust me yet
I walk up to one of the cars I saw her staring at.
I am personally more of a Mercedes person, but if she likes the car, it's hers.
She stares at me as I grab the keys to the car.
"Let's get going" I tell her.
She reluctantly moves towards me and I grab her wrist, putting the keys in her hand.
"As my future wife, I won't have you walking to school or taking any form of public transport, do you understand?" I ask.
"Matéo, I don't think that- -" She stops talking when I step closer to her.
Her breath hitches in her throat at the closeness of our bodies.
Not so tough now...
She'd lose her shit if she could read minds at this point and I would probably receive the hardest uppercut you've ever seen.
"You hear me?" I ask again.
I drop my tone so that she knows that I am very serious.
She looks at my lips and nods and without saying a word, I pull open the passenger side door and make room for her to sit inside.
She sits and I close the door after her.
Is this the same girl that nearly pulled a gun on me?
I expected more of a fight.
I walk around the other side and sit in the driver's seat.
I push the start button and the engine immediately roars to life.
I grip the steering wheel and back out of the garage, swiftly before turning into the road.
Adeline stares out the window, clearly in shock at my last action.
I smirk to myself, not letting her see.
I like that I have some kind of affect on her...
A few minutes into the car ride, she speaks up.
"I heard that you were the one, responsible for my room?" She asks.
I hear a note of shyness in her voice, which surprises me.
So she did realise!
I nod at her.
"Thank you" she says and I chuckle.
"Of course" I reply.

When we finally arrive at the café, I get out, before she can and go around to open the door for her.
I offer her my hand, but she ignores it and steps out of the car, marching straight to the coffee shop.
Ok, this could be harder than I thought...
I take my time, strolling up to the café, as I let my amusement die off a little.
She looks pissed.
I grin and turn to the waiter at the door.
The waiter has a wave of blonde hair atop his head, tied loosely on his head, that moves a little when he talks.
"Table for two" I say.
He nods, barely taking his eyes off Adeline.
"Of course, right this way for you and the lovely lady " he says, still staring at her.
My heart pounds in my chest.
Jealousy?
For what?!
"What the hell are you staring at?" I snap furiously.
My blood boils.
"I am sure that you are meant to be cleaning tables or serving food or something. Get a move on, before I file in a complaint against you for staring at my fiancée!" I almost snap.
The waiter snaps out of his daze immediately.
"Erm, I... yes sir... It won't happen again!" He stutters, his pale face darkening with red.
He walks along quickly, leading us to a table.
I catch a glance of Adeline and see that she is staring at me with a look of slight disgust on her face.
She looks away, when she realises that I noticed her.
We are seated at the table and left alone.
"Matéo, there was no need to be so harsh. It was completely unnecessary" she reasons.
"I did what I needed to do!" I snap at her and I immediately regret it.
I'm not angry at her.
Her eyes flash with anger and she picks up the menu, holding it to her face.
I sigh. "Look, Ade, I..." I start but she cuts me off.
"I'm ready to order. And it's Adeline. We are not friends." she clips, her tone calm but brittle.
There's the 'fight' I was looking for.
And when I least expect it.
She puts the menu down and smooths her hands over the top of it.
I nod.
I guess I deserved that...
I call over the waiter and he timidly asks us what we want.
He turns to me first.
"Sir?" he asks.
I ask him for a black coffee with three sugars.
He turns to Adeline.
"And you, miss?" He asks a bit shyly.
I roll my eyes.
Cazzo.
"Could I get a hot chocolate, with extra cream please?" She tells him softly.
Where did that tone suddenly come from?!
He gulps.
"Erm, sure thing" he mutters.
His voice cracks in-between speaking and she giggles at him adorably, creating a steeple with her fingers and resting her chin on it.
Her eyes follow him from head to toe and she smirks when he catches her, looking away 'shyly'.
He chuckles nervously, his face reddening.
She gives him a small smile.
"Will that be all?" He asks.
"Yes that will be all. Thank you" she says politely, with a nod.
He smiles at her and walks off a spring in his step.
"What was that?" I fume.
"I did what I had to do" she says innocently, her demeanour going back to normal.
"Or does that only apply to you?" She asks sarcastically, giving me a hard stare.
This is definitely still the woman who pulled a gun on me.
She waits to let things boil. Then tears you a new one.
I'm impressed.
"Furthermore if you ever snap at me in public again, I'll leave you wherever we are, stranded. You can call someone to come and collect you. Understand?" She asks.
I nod.
I try not to sink into my seat and I watch her.
I don't like her tone, but I know that I need to be careful.
A few minutes later, the waiter comes back with our drinks.
She tells him a polite thank you as he sets them down and walks away.
"You have questions?" I ask her.
She nods, yes.
"Ask away" I tell her.
"First of all, will I still be able to continue with college and see my friends?" She asks.
"Yes, of course you will. Education is a key aspect of your life as well as your friends and family. I won't take that away" I shrug.
She nods.
"Will we live in your parents' house once we are... Married?" She says, hesitating a little.
I shake my head.
"No, I have my own house, about 45 minutes away so that I can still take care of them and you will still be within reasonable distance of yours should you need them." I reply.
She breathes out.
"This is a marriage. Not a kidnapping" I tell her which she snorts at but doesn't push further.
"Who's idea was this?" She asks.
I clear my throat uncomfortably.
She is going to hate me for telling her this.
"It was mine" I respond.
