Chapter 23

9 days until the anniversary

Kenma hasn't talked to his mother since the fight they had. He has been staying at his best friends, Kuroo's, house for now, his family didn't mind having him over. Though, they did start to ask questions on why Kenma would be staying at theirs for so long in the middle of the week, something seemed off.

Kenma felt uneasy with telling someone about his situation. He didn't want to make even more people worry than he already was. He felt like a burden to everyone.

But Kuroo and his family did not feel that way about him at all. They love Kenma just as if their own and have no issue with having him around. Though, Kuroo's mother was wondering.

Yes, it's true that Kenma is often at theirs, and if he isn't, Kuroo would be over at his home, but something was clearly off. The way they haven't been over at Kenma's to get him new clothes and how he already came with nothing but what he was wearing already. It was different from the usual. And Kuroo's mom wanted to help Kenma, but she didn't know how.

Kenma thought it was unfair of him that he hasn't told his best friends mom the reason for his stay. He knew she was worried about him, but how even would he tell her everything that has happened? "So, I'm gay, and my mom is homophobic"? That doesn't sound right.

Kenma doesn't even know if he feels like coming out to anyone after what has happened. It all scared him a lot.

Even if Kenma would never say it, he appreciated Kuroo and his parents taking him in without asking what happened.

Well, at least the parents didn't ask questions. "When are you going to try talking to your mother about this again?" "When are you telling my parents whats up? I'm sure they would want to help you" "When do you think your mom will come around?". Kuroo just couldn't stop asking questions.

"Damn, with all these questions you're asking its starting to feel like you're trying to kick me out", Kenma said, knowing that his best friend would never mean something like that. He just wanted the constant questions to finally stop.

Kuroo's arms shot up in a defending manner. "No of course not! You can stay with me for as long as you want to or need to", he began. Kenma noticed that there was more he wanted to say, so he waited. "But I know that this whole thing is hard for you. I don't like seeing you and knowing you probably feel like no one supports you. I support you, you're still Kenma, you know? And I know that my parents wouldn't think anything bad of you either".

It was silent between the two, nothing else needed to be said. Kuroo was right, Kenma knew that. This family just wanted to support him. And they would with their whole hearts, if Kenma would just finally open up. These people were like a second family to him, there's no way They would think of him negatively. Kenma hasn't ever heard them say something homophobic.

The blonde boy sighed. "You're right. I want to tell your parents too. Its just that after what happened I'm actually kind of scared, if that makes sense".

Kuroo was laying on his bed, starring at the ceiling. Kenma wasn't often scared. It was an usual thing to hear his best friend say. He was worried, he didn't know how to help the boy on his own. "I do understand", he begun. "After what happened I think most people would be scared. But I promise you, my parents would never".

"Do you want to tell them?", Kenma asked, sitting up. Before he was laying next to Kuroo, both just talking and being on their phones. Kenma looked down at Kuroo.

Kuroo looked up back at him. "What do you mean? I should tell them that you're gay?", this sounded absurd to Kuroo, even though he didn't have many gay friends, he knew that this just seemed entirely wrong.

Kenma nodded. "Yes, sure, why not? I know this isn't like a recommended way to do it, but I won't do it. I just don't feel ready to come out and tell someone new", he spoke, gliding down onto the bed again, his head hitting the pillow gently.

While Kenma was looking back at the ceiling, Kuroo was watching his friend next to him. "I feel like coming outs are supposed to be personal. You should do it, not me. And if you wont do it now, then you will you it another time. You can go at your own pace", the boy paused. "Sorry for making you feel like I'm pressuring you to come out or to go back to your home. You're always welcome to stay", Kuroo now spoke more quietly.

Kenma smiled gently, a rare smile. "I know that you didn't mean it like that. I know you don't mind me being here, don't worry about that now".

"You're Always welcome to stay here for however you want".

     "I know that, that's why I'm here".

Kuroo looked back at the ceiling, a comfortable silence starting between the two boys. Not often they had talks like this, the kind that seemed meaningful or even comforting. But when they do, they always notice how greatful they are to have each other. They have been together through everything, nothing could destroy their friendship. Seeing each other felt like home, and they both knew that the other boy also felt that way.

Tiredly Kuroo put an arm around his younger friend, pulling him close.

And even if Kenma would never say it, he appreciated Kuroo and his comfort. He would never leave him, he knew they would be friends for ever.
