Chapter 36

"You want to go with me to the skate park?" Jonathan asked incredulously.

Of course, he wanted Evanee there, but none of his friends ever asked if they could tag along whenever he went to the infamous skate park.

"If it's fine with you, of course."

Jonathan nodded. "Yeah, it's fine. I just didn't think you'd want to go. It's not far from here so we can walk."

From the school parking lot, the two of them walked silently to the park. Evan and David were busy with their school project, the ever popular baby project, and Tyler was busy with his girlfriend.

It didn't take long for them to arrive at the skate park. Evanee recognized few familiar faces from school, though she didn't know any of them personally.

Throwing his backpack to the side, Jonathan took his skateboard in his hand and did what he loved best, which was kick ass at skating.

Evanee was sitting on a bench staring at him as he went down ramps and jumped off of random things. She wasn't exactly familiar with skating terms but it looked pretty interesting.

"Your Evan's girlfriend. Evanee, right?"

The raven haired girl looked to her right to see a stranger. Blonde hair, blue eyes. The teenage boy resembled more of a surfer rather than a skater.

"Yeah. And you?"

He sat down next to her, setting his skateboard against the edge of the bench.

"I'm Zach. I'm actually in your fifth period," he laughed, running a hand through his hair. "This might sound a bit cocky, but most people remember me. They're into the whole blonde hair, blue eyes thing, you know?"

"So was Hitler."

That wasn't the best response and Evanee knew that, but she had blurted it out and smiled sheepishly seeing the odd face on Zach's features.

He began laughing. "You're a funny girl, Evanee."

A sudden shadow loomed over the two and Evanee turned to see Jonathan next to them. "Zach. Long time, no see. What're you doing?"

A knowing smirk was etched onto Zach's lips as he stood up to face Jonathan. They were the same height and Evanee could see a few similarities between the two.

The blue eyes, shaggy hair, and the sharp jaw lines. If Jonathan's hair was blonde, the two could actually pass as brothers.

"I'm just introducing myself to your friend here. Is there a problem?"

"Yes."

Evanee knew from past experience that Jonathan was a violent person in certain situations and his anger was evident as he glared at Zach. There was obviously history between them but Evanee had never heard of Zach before.

"I guess you're still angry about the car thing," Zach said, rolling his eyes. "I said sorry."

The green eyed girl coughed loudly. "I'm sorry. Am I missing something?"

Jonathan balled up his fist. "Yeah. This asshole thought it would be fair to wreck my car after I beat his ass in basketball with his friends watching."

She remembered the story. Jonathan had never included Zach's name but Evanee knew that the culprit never got in trouble because Jonathan said he didn't want to be a snitch. The immature fact had bothered Evanee.

"Still butt hurt?"

Evanee stood up with a smile gracing her lips. Zach was a head taller than her, but she wasn't exactly intimidated.

"Listen here you little shit. I would say I don't want to start anything with you but I don't particularly like sensitive fuckboys, especially ones that mess with my friends. So apologize and leave."

The laugh that followed her threat was expected. By then, most of the other skaters who went to her school had crowded around them and Jonathan was staring at her with wide eyes.

"Okay, babe. You're cute and all but this is boy territory. Girls like you belong in the kitchen," Zach countered, making a lot of the guys snicker.

"Wow. Are you really trying to make stupid sexist remarks to compensate for the fact that you have a small dick? I think I remember you now. The crybaby who peed his pants in the middle of eight grade graduation."

The memory seemed to really anger Zach because he had finally stopped smiling and narrowed his eyes at her. The laughs that surrounded them didn't help either.

Evanee was almost too slow to dodge the fist that came flying to her face, but she moved just in time to see Jonathan move towards Zach.

"Jon? Let me."

He was doubtful of course, but he let Evanee handle the growing fight. As Zach smirked, knowing that he would win against Evanee, he felt his body hit the cement as the smaller girl launched her self on him and repeatedly punched his face.

Zach was certainly strong enough to push her off, but she had her left hand around his neck, her knee pressed painfully hard against his stomach, and her right hand was busy punching the absolute shit out of him.

The punching didn't even stop when tears fell from Zach's eyes. People were recording, but Evanee didn't exactly care. The only thing that mattered was the violently avenging her friend.

Then she felt two arms wrap around her and pull her up. "That's enough, Evanee. Let's go. He won't say shit," Jonathan said, grabbing his board and pulling Evanee's arm as he hurriedly walked away from the scene.

People were still crowded around Zach, who's nose was bleeding and face bruised but other than that, he seemed okay. Though he was fairly pissed to say the least.

When they were farther away from the skate park, Jonathan stopped walking. "Don't do stupid things like that."

"You let me punch him," Evanee countered.

His hand went up to his face as he rubbed his temple. "Cause I thought you'd only punch him once. No one expected you to beat him up. He could have really hurt you and you're still recovering."

"Thanks for caring, but I can take care of myself," Evanee muttered as they continued walking.

The rest of the walk to her house was silent since Evanee put her earphones in and Jonathan didn't want to interrupt.

It wasn't that late when they arrived so Gemma wasn't home yet when they walked around the corner to Evanee's house.

Jonathan had stopped her before she went inside. "Look, I know you can take care of yourself but just be a little more careful next time, okay?"

The small smile that the raven haired girl expressed made Jonathan sigh in relief, seeing that she was no longer angry.

"I will. I'll see you tomorrow ya big goofball," she said, walking inside the house.

Jonathan rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly. "I also wanted to tell you that you looked pretty," he whispered. He had wanted to say something earlier but the nervousness got to him.

"What did you say?"

"I said you looked shitty," Jonathan blurted out. "Goodnight Evs!"

Without another word, Jonathan grabbed his board and left, leaving Evanee hopelessly confused.
