Chapter 3
"Well, I'll be upstairs. I'm trusting you two to behave and if you don't, I'm cutting your dick off and grounding you till you're twenty one," Gemma pointed at Evan and then Evanee.
Gemma had made popcorn, brought out some iced tea, and offered a variety of movies for the teenagers to watch. During this time, Evangeline's aunt and new frenemie could not stop talking. It went from Evanee, to school, to movies, and back to Evanee. No matter what she did, they still talked about her.
Even worse, Evan had started calling her ducky and Gemma wasn't against it either.
"So which movie, Captain America or Thor?" Evan asked casually.
"Captain America and how can you be so calm about this? I told you to go home but no, you had to introduce yourself which i could have easily dealt with, but you made it seem like we were dating you absolute walnut!"
"Absolute walnut?" It was just another surprising insult, something that Evan actually found amusing. He put in the movie and sat next to Evangeline, covering himself with a shared blanket. Before he reached for the remote, he thought of another way to toture his little ducky. "Mrs.Pierce? Are you able to take a picture of us?"
What does he think he's doing?
Gemma came running down the stairs and smiled at the two. Evan handed her his phone and she stood in front of the couch but frowned.
"Evangeline, don't be shy in front of your own aunt. You can scoot closer to your first boyfriend."
On cue, Evan held Evangeline closer to him and laughed.
"First boyfriend, ducky?" Hearing this though, Evan couldn't help but smile.
Gemma took several pictures of the two, although the only person smiling in the pictures was Evan. She left as quickly as she arrived and headed upstairs.
It was quiet as the two sat side by side watching one of Evangeline's favorite movies. By the middle of the movie, all of the snacks were finished and both teenagers were dozing off.
Like the good guardian she was, Gemma came down to check on the two and she was met with two sleeping teenagers.
It was an emotional moment for Gemma. She had raised her niece since she was eight and it was the first time Evanee had brought a friend to the house. The thirty-nine year old woman always thought it was her fault that Evanee barely had any friends, but her beautiful niece always reassured her that she was perfect the way she is.
With a moment's pondering, Gemma decided to take a picture using Evan's phone that was conveniently placed next to the empty bowls that once contained popcorn. She quietly took a few pictures and smiled at the sight.
They were leaning to the right, so much that the two were basically laying down next to each other. Evangeline's head rested on Evan's chest and her body faced his, burying her face in his chest. Evan also had his arm draped around her small body and large blue blanket covered their lower halves keeping them warm.
It was a Friday night and since nobody had called for Evan, Gemma had decided that she would let the two sleep and returned the phone to its original place. Before returning to her bedroom, she cleaned up the food and took one last look at her little girl.
"When did my baby grow up?" Gemma quietly asked herself and walked up the stairs.
