Chapter 23

"So, I bought the tickets for homecoming today," David said out of nowhere. "I don't see why they charge so much for one ticket."

Evanee had completely forgotten about homecoming with David. Recently, her time was spent with Evan.

"How much was it? I can pay you back," Evanee said, rummaging through her backpack for her wallet.

David shook his head with a smile. "It's fine, Evanee. Did you tell Evan that we're still going Saturday next week?"

She sighed. "No, I haven't. Honestly, I complete forgot about it and I'm a bit afraid of what Evan will say because you asked me to go before Evan and I began dating."

"Hey, its fine," David reassured her after seeing the sad expression she wore. " If you don't want to go, you don't have to. Just remember that its your decision and not his."

The tall Irish boy was reluctant on Evan's relationship with Evanee because of this, along with many other reasons. He didn't want Evanee's actions or decisions to be made by Evan.

Right now. It was only them at school. Evan had dropped her off and she met with David at the tables, while Evan had to spend his morning finishing a calculus test that he didn't finish yesterday.

"Anyways, how are you? We haven't seen you much other than at school since you're with Evan."

"I've been pretty good, actually. I didn't think a relationship would make me so happy," Evanee said truthfully. Evan made her happy, but there was a part of her that was doubtful of him.

David hummed in agreement and brought up a new topic. "If you're not busy tonight, would you mind if I came over? I wanted to know if you would like to enter the talent show this year with me."

It took Evanee a few seconds to go over the idea. She wasn't a huge fan of performing in front of a large crowd, but she didn't have a bad case of stage fright so it seemed pretty fun. Evanee also enjoyed singing with David so joining the talent show would be nice.

"Lets do it. Evan and I were planning on watching a movie later, so you can come over around five."

"Sounds like a plan. I'll see you later then," David said, leaving to his next class since the bell was about to ring.

---------

"You've got to be kidding me," Evan mumbled, reminded of the fact that Evanee was still going to Homecoming with David.

"Its just four hours hanging out wjth one of my best friends. Why is that so difficult for you to comprehend?"

The raven haired girl had waited until they got home to tell Evan of her plans with David on Saturday, which was in ten days. She didn't want Evan to overreact when he was driving so she postponed telling him. Though, his reaction was still dimwitted.

Evanee was glad Aunt Gemma wasn't home because she certainly wouldn't put up with how childish Evan was acting right now, but she couldn't change him. No matter how much Evanee wanted to make Evan see things from a different perspective, she knew it was pointless. Their relationship was going so well until now.

In an instant, Evan was no longer pacing from the stairs to and from the front door. Now, he was right in front of Evanee with the same glare he had given her when they had first met; filled with hatred and disgust.

But before he could say anything else, Evanee stopped him. "If you're going to act like a child, please leave this house, Evan. I have no time nor patience to deal with you."

Relationships were difficult. She understood that, but Evanee was not one to get really angry over something so stupid. This was Evan's problem and she'd leave him to deal with it.

Seeing that Evan hadn't apologized for overreacting and that he was as mad as ever, Evanee glared at him. "Honestly, I don't know how people put up with you for so long," she muttered, pointing towards the door. "Goodbye Evan."

Evan, not knowing what else to say, trudged out the front door, completely forgetting about their movie date. His rage was had quickly ceased though after seeing David drive up the street on his motorcycle and parking right in front of Evanee's house.

"Hey, Evan," David greeted with a smile after taking his helmet off. "Is the movie date over?"

Guessing that Evanee was the one who told David of their afternoon plans, Evan ignored the fact that David knew about their date. "Yeah, it ended early. Why are you here?"

David sensed the tiniest bit of hostility from Evan, a feeling he was uncomfortable since Evan was his friend.

"I'm here to practice for the talent show with Evanee? I figured she'd already tell you."

"It seems like you're finding all the possible ways to spend more time with my girlfriend David." Evan said, the rage he felt rushing back to him. "You might be mt best friend, but don't think I'd treat you any differently if you tried anything with 0Evanee."

And with that, Evan walked back to his house, leaving David dumbfounded and Evanee even angrier than she was before after seeing the confrontation from her bedroom window.

She went downstairs and opened the door for David. He entered the house silently still processing the fact that Evan, his best friend, had threatened him.

"Evan went crazy after I told him about homecoming. I'm sorry he projected his anger towards you," Evanee apologized.

"Don't apologize for him. If wants to act that way, so be it. I guess I just won't talk to him. Anyways, are you okay? He looked angry when I saw him outside."

The green eyed girl sighed. "By being with him, I guess I signed up for his bullshit as well, but he's so hard to deal with sometimes. I just hope he comes to his senses soon," she said honestly. "Lets stop talking about him though. Have you thought about what song we shoukd sing for the show?"

"No, not really. I thought it'd be better if we figured out a song together."

It was exactly the same process like the day Evanee had crashed Evan's pre-party and sang with David. Both of them suggested songs, but each one seemed to be flawed; some they didn't know, some were too difficult to sing , and some they just didn't like.

"Have you heard of Alex&Sierra?" David asked. Evanee nodded. "Well, their song 'I Love You' is actually pretty good and it'd be easy for me to learn on guitar and you for piano."

The raven haired girl liked the song and hearing that it was an easy song for both of them to learn was even better. She searched up the karaoke version of the song on her laptop. David sang the first few lines.

I fell in love with a beautiful girl
And she still takes my breath away
...
Sometimes when I hear your name
a smile creeps on my face
...
'Cause I love you
More than you think I do
And I love you
Now you don't want me to

And for the next few hours, Evanee sang her heart out, oblivious to the world.
