Chapter 13

Evan opened the passenger seat door for Evanee with a smile. After David's little stunt, he decided to ask Evanee out and hopefully today was the day. A nervous feeling took place in the pit of his stomach, which he never felt before. With all of the girls he'd dated, Evan never felt nervous.

The muscular boy got in the driver's seat after closing Evanee's door. "Ducky?"

She looked towards him with a bright smile. "Yes, Evan?"

God, the way she said his name made him melt. How did he fall so hard in such a short time? His throat tightened up and no words could escape him.

"Okay," the raven haired girl dragged out. "Let's just go, I have a test in my first period and I promised Tyler I'd help him study before school."

Evan nodded, mentally scolding himself for not being able to ask her out. He started the car and headed off towards school.

--

"This shit is honestly so confusing," Tyler groaned and shut the textbook. "How do you know so much?"

Evanee put her textbook back in her bag. "Because I actually studied yesterday," she retorted.

It was only 7:10 and they were the only three sitting at their usual table since Jonathan walked to school around 7:25 and David drove there five minutes after.

Tyler basically gave up on studying so the three of them sat there, waiting for something to happen.

After five minutes of weird silence, Evanee spoke up. "Who's up for a game of hide and seek?"

The two boys looked at her with blank stares, both wondering if she was joking or not. Though the look on Evanee's face meant that she was serious about playing the childish game. They agreed and waited for Evanee to explain.

"Okay, first off, you can only hide in the school circle. This means no hiding in classrooms or the restrooms. Secondly, once you're found out, you have a chance to escape while the other person is trying to tag you."

"Confusing, but okay. I'll be up first," Evan began counting down from thirty, giving time for Tyler and Evanee to hide.

Tyler left the green eyed girl in the dust as he raced to hide in an empty trashcan. The other hider stayed near the tables, right behind Evan and hoped that he wouldn't see her when he got up.

As the counting came to an end, Evan stood up and scanned the area for any sign of his friends. Walking away from the lunch tables, he looked behind trees and searched corners. Tyler was silently snickering after he saw that Evan was oblivious that Evanee was hiding behind him when he was counting. The raven haired girl could see where Tyler was hiding and saw him give her a thumbs up.

Meanwhile, Evan was still looking around, a bit frustrated that he couldn't find anyone. Then his eyes landed on an odd shape inside a trash can. Without a second thought, he snuck up behind the bin and kicked it down. Seeing that Tyler came crawling out, Evan tagged him quickly and began laughing.

"Goddammit Evan. That was a good spot," Tyler said, getting up off the floor and picking the bin up. "Now you have to find your girlfriend."

Evan scowled and hoped the Evanee wasn't close enough to hear that. "She's not my girlfriend. Now shut up", Evan told him. Tyler raised his hands up in defense and followed Evan.

Jonathan had appeared out of nowhere at the lunch tables, giving Evanee a questionable glance when he saw her hiding behind a thick pole. Informing him of their game of hide and seek, Jonathan was quick to join. He crouched next to Evanee, keeping his eyes on Evan who was absolutely clueless of their location.

"Ca caw!" Jonathan shouted out, making Evan turn to them. "Oh shit," he whispered after Evan began walking towards the two.

"You idiot!" Evanee screamed and ran from their hiding place.

Evan ignored her for now and tagged Delirious, which resulted in a few womanly screams from him. Then he turned his attention to Evanee who was staring at him with wide eyes, ready to run if Evan ran towards her.

She sprinted as soon as the Canadian boy took his first step and it became a wild goose chase around the school circle, students and teachers watching the interaction in curiosity.

A scream left Evanee's mouth as she felt two arms wrap around her waist and lift her off her feet. "Got you now, Ducky," she heard Evan's voice in her ear.

She felt her feet touch the ground as Evan set her down, laughing and stared up at Evan. The two were too focused on each other that they didn't notice all the stares coming from other students and teachers.

Evanee coughed awkwardly tearing her eyes away from him and walking back towards the tables, Evan following behind her. David was already there so Evanee assumed he had arrived while she was playing.

"I'm going to go to the restroom," Evanee blurted out, taking her bag and leaving without another word.

As she reached the restroom, she sat on the white tiles and sighed. Evanee already admitted to herself, and to Nogla, that she had feelings for Evan but there was no way she'd act upon those feelings. But this time, there were no words to describe how happy she was having him close and laughing together.

Still, she knew that liking him was a horrible thing. Not only because she wanted to focus solely on school for her senior year, but because Evan was known for playing with girls.

Someone else went in the bathroom, so Evanee scrambled to get up and get out.

"Hey," the girl who just came in greeted her with a smile. "I'm Sydney. I'm in your sixth period."

Evanee had no interest in talking to her, but she didn't want to seem rude. "I'm Evanee."

"Pretty name," Evanee was still wondering why Sydney was taking such an interest in her. "So what's the deal with you and Evan?"

And there's the catch. Nobody as popular as Sydney would waste their time with a random girl like me unless thet wanted something.

"Nothing is happening. We're just friends," Evanee tried to leave the bathroom but was stopped as Sydney stood in the middle of the doorway.

She laughed quietly and stared at her. "Just to make this clear, that's all you two will ever be. Besides, I slept with him last week. He's just doing this to make me jealous after I dumped his fucking ass." Sydney moved out of the way and let Evanee move with a smile.

Evanee doubted that Sydney dumped Evan. The Canadian boy was known for dating then dumping and she was pretty sure Sydney wasn't an exception.

Still, she didn't want to have anything to do with Sydney after their brief conversation. Going to the tables, Evanee sat down and let her head fall down on her backpack.

"What the hell happened in the bathroom?" David asked, seeing her pissed off expression. "Period problems?"

"No, it's one of your old girlfriends or something. Sydney," Evanee muttered bitterly, looking at Evan. "Jealous fuck thinks we're together."

Evan stood up and left the table abruptly, not saying anything after hearing what Evanee had to say. The four of his friends watched him leave, not saying anything to stop him.
