Chapter 1

"Juniors are such hardheads," a laugh erupted from the four boys. All heads turned to them for a split second, but turned away knowing that it was probably just another dumb insult or joke. The group was known for their constant teasing. Most people liked them and the ones that didn't were smart enough to keep it to themselves.

The four seniors stood up in unison, Evan first speaking. "For all the seniors, I'm hosting a party this weekend in celebration of the new school year. Tell your friends. And if anyone decides to crash the party, there'll be punishments."

The whole cafeteria knew what 'punishment' meant: a brutal beat down. Even though the four were somewhat nice, it didn't mean that they would use their strength to their own advantage. The threat was ignored though and the seniors talked amongst themselves in excitement. Along with that came sighs and complaints from the underclass.

Throughout the rest of the day, the party was the only things that seemed to last. Whether it was complaining about not being able to go or shouting for being able to, the whole school was in chatter. The address was posted on Evan's twitter. The party was planned on a Saturday night, which gave the teenagers a day to cancel prior plans.

Along the corridor, a petite girl trudged slowly through the swarm of hormonal teenagers towards her locker. Her raven hair was styled into a messy bun, since she had no desire for them to fall in front of her face. The path from her last period to her locker had been much more cluttered than usual.

To her surprise, a fight broke out between the one of the school's most popular students and a jock, which conveniently took place in front of the tired girl's locker.

By the time she had arrived, a swarm of students, most of them being much taller than she, crowded the scene. She managed to push her way through the crowd and near the actual fight. The two who were fighting were Evan and Nathan, the soccer captain. It was rumored that Evan had supposedly made out with Nathan's girlfriend, or ex-girlfriend to be. The rumor was probably true and fighting always seemed like a good way to settle a conflict according to teenage boys.

Evan's bottom lip was splotched with blood, but Nathan had it much worse. The soccer captain had already formed a bruise on his cheek and his right eye was slightly shut. Evanee knew it wasn't her place to break up the fight, but she needed to get to her locker before the bus left. The girl quickly jumped in between the two, swiftly dodging a punch from Nathan that was originally directed towards Evan.

It was a funny sight. Two 5'8 teenage boys being pushed apart by a girl who only reached 5'2. It wasn't difficult to see that the boys were confused and still very angry. "If you don't mind, I would like to get to my locker and you two are in the way."

The crowd of about thirty people were surprised by the girl's confidence. It was rare seeing anyone stop one of the members from "the crew" and certainly not a girl.

"And who the hell do you think you are, bitch?" Evan spat. Nathan looked just as angry but avoided saying anything, probably because his jaw hurt too much to open.

Evanee put on the sweetest smile she could and looked Evan straight in the eye. "How strange it is for you to call me that since we both know I'm not the one here who's got his panties in a twist." A smug smile replaced her sweet expression and she lightly pushed both boys away from her, reaching her locker. It was awfully silent as she took some of her books from her locker and placed some of the items in her bag neatly inside. As she turned around, a hand smacked her book and binder out of her hands.

Obviously, Evanee's insult took a huge hit to Evan's ego, so much that the fight was forgotten and Nathan had walked away from the crowd. The crowd, however, hung onto every word the two were saying.

"You don't have the right to insult me, let alone look at me," cheers came from Evanee's right side and she saw Evan's "crew" looking at her with hateful eyes.

"I'm glad. Maybe I won't feel loke throwing up anymore," a laugh surrounded the two sending Evan into a furious state.

He didn't dare hurt her in front of the crowd of people. He knew no one would forgive him for beating up a girl. Even if that girl was downright annoying, he thought. Instead, he grabbed her collar and threatened to "make her life a living hell", which no one else seemed to hear since he had said it quietly.

The crowd left as soon as he let go of Evanee. The annoyed girl picked up her books and with a quick wink and flick of her middle finger, which she made sure Evan saw, she hurried to the bus stop by the side of the gym.

"Come on. Come on. Come on." She was running now, after the checking the time, 3:14. The bus left at 3:15 everyday and her asshole of a bus driver was too damn rude to stop the bus for anyone who came later. Her bun bounced on her head and her binder was slipping out of her hand as she ran. A loud "fucking shit" escaped her lips as she made it in time to see the bus drive off without her. Her aunt was at work and her house was over four miles away. "Fucking Evan and his stupid ego."

Evanee blamed this all on Evan. She knew it was slightly her own fault for insulting him and making him angry, but her anger overcame her conscience. It had been ten minutes of her sitting on a bench and listening to music when she heard laughter.

"And he fell to the ground by the first punch. The bastard still got up though until the cunt got in the way. She needs to be taught a fucking lesson for treating me like that."

She could instantly recognize who the voice belonged to. She stood up, taking her earphones out. "Talking about me? I knew you were asshole, but I had no idea you were such a whiny one."

Four pairs of eyes turned to face her.

"I'll talk to you guys online later." The three left, not wanting to question Evan's sudden need for their departure.

David(Daithi De Nogla)stayed for a minute longer though, hoping that neither one of them would end up dead when he leaves. "Don't do anything I wouldn't do. People will know who it was if they see any bruises on her," he whispered to Evan, knowing that the boy had slight anger issues. He left without saying anything else.

Evanee put her earphones and phone away in her backpack. She looked up to see Evan. He was angry, not as angry as before, but still very pissed off. "I know I hurt your manly ego," Evanee put her fingers up and air quoted the last two words,"but I think it was only fair. I know that you kissed Nathan's girlfriend and beating him up after he confronted you was a dick move an-".

"That's none of your goddamn business. Why are you still here anyways?" Evan had cut her off, just in time too because Evanee's next few words were a bit explicit.

"Because you kept me from making it to my bus in time and I live four miles away from here, asshole."

Evan felt a tiny shred of sympathy for causing her trouble, but it quickly faded into anger. "And how the fuck is that my fault? I wasn't the one who thought it was a great idea to get in the middle of the fight and expect to make it on the bus in time."

"I had to get my stuff from my locker and I sure as hell wasn't going to take any shit from you, which made me even later since I had to say that you were being an asshole. Plus you did knock my stuff out of my hands and threatened me," Evanee wasn't shouting like Evan was. She knew that it would be better if she had kept her calm and getting angry wouldn't help in her finding a way back home.

"Okay, fine. I'll help you this once, but after this, you can expect nothing good from me ever again," Evan was still contemplating whether or not it was a good idea, but he already had agreed to 'playing nice'. "I'll drive you home if you want."

Evanee was still kind of mad at the poor excuse of a boy, but she knew if she didn't accept his offer she would have to stay at school until 10 for her aunt to pick her up after work. "Sure."

Evan huffed and walked to the school parking lot, leaving Evanee behind him. It took her a few seconds to grab her bag off the bench plus her binder and book, but she caught up with the moody teenager. "Thanks for waiting," sarcasm dripped from Evanee's words.

"No problemo," Evan winked at her and laughed. He then realized that it wasn't the right time for that, especially in front of Evanee. Before he could open his mouth to make a quick excuse for his outburst, a laugh accompanied the silence he had left. It was a loud laugh and Evan had no idea that such a loud sound could come from such a tiny girl. He saw how Evanee's head slightly tilted back when she laughed and how her hair swayed along with her body as laughter flowed through her. Her eyes were closed, but they opened leaving Evan into a state of surprise. He never noticed how green her eyes were. He never noticed anything about her to be honest. She was just another passing face in the rest of the 2,500 other students from Tracker high.

Evanee's green eyes were staring back at Evan's brown ones. "I didn't expect that, sorry. I just thought you were still mad and that wink caught me by surprise."

Speak. Hello, anyone home? You're just staring at her you dumbass.

The flustered boy opened his mouth. "I was a bit surprised too. Who knew that a hyena laugh could come out of such a tiny thing." It was partially right. Her laugh was loud and she was smaller than an average girl, but Evan thought her laugh was cute in a way.

A quick gasp left Evanee and she lightly shoved Evan. "My laugh is perfectly fine, ya butt."

"Did you just call me a butt?"

Evanee didn't answer and skipped ahead of him but suddenly turned around to face Evan. "I have no clue where we're going."

Evan smiled. "It's this way, come on."

The two walked towards a black Mercedes and it beeped as Evan held his key out. Evan sat in the driver's seat and Evanee climbed into the passenger seat. It was a nice car. Probably really expensive too. It was a five seater and the seats were made of leather and had built in heaters. Even the radio looked fancy.

How in the hell did he afford this?

Evan turned on the radio, but quickly turned it off as Iggy Azalea's song came on. "Hate her," he commented. He took out his phone from his pants pocket and connected it to the cord hanging next to the radio. Bon Jovi's 'Living on a Prayer' blasted through the speakers, not that Evanee minded. It was an amazing song.

"Where's your house?" The current driver paused the music and looked to Evanee.

"1855 West Pine Avenue, near Malcolm Park."

The shocked look on Evan's face confused the girl. "That's the house across from mine. I thought it was only the crazy lady who lived there."

Evanee was fairly surprised to hear that. "The crazy lady who likes to practice her kart wheels on her lawn, right?" Evan nodded. "Well, I guess you know my aunt then. It's not that surprising that you haven't seen me I guess. I tend to never leave my room."

Evan didn't say anything else and played the song. It would take about twenty to thirty minutes to get to their houses and Evan wished it would go by sooner. There was a part of him that hated how well he got along with the smart mouthed girl and he was trying to force himself to let that hate overcome him.

He turned his head slightly to look at Evanee. Everything about her seemed to surprise him. She was mouthing along the words to the song and softly nodding along with the music. Evanee turned to look at Evan and she saw him look at her. She said nothing but smiled, showing off her straight teeth.

"I honestly love this song." Evanee smirked and began singing along to the wonderful music of Bon Jovi. (A/N: you guys should listen to the song, it's pretty good)

She's actually really good, Evan thought. Evanee didn't miss a beat and singing seemed to be a second form of speaking for her. "Well, stop being a boob and sing with me."

"I'm not good at singing," Evan said, still getting over the fact that he was just called a boob. "If you want to sing, go to my friend David."

"Ohhhhh, we're halfway there. Ohhhhh oh, we're living on a prayer," Evanee stopped singing and waited for Evan to continue the song. He didn't respond for a few seconds, but the temptation got the best of him.

As he drove, Evan began belting out the words to the song. To Evanee, he wasn't great but he wasn't that bad either. She joined along with him and the two finished the song with bright smiles on their faces.

"You were right," Evan waited for her to go on,"you're not good at singing." Evanee laughed and bounced along in her seat. Evan laughed along with her.

It would still take fifteen minutes to get to their destination, so Evan picked the next song, For the Longest Time. Evanee could already conclude that Evan was a sucker for the classics, similar to her. The rest of the ride was basically both of them singing to random songs and laughing. It was one of the best moments Evanee had had in the past few weeks.

By the time they arrived it was about 3:50, and both of them were out of breath from laughing too hard and singing. Evan had parked by the front of his house, across from Evanee's.

They both climbed out of the Black Mercedes. "I look forward to you trying making my life a living hell," Evanee said with a quick bow. She ran across the street and unlocked her door, disappearing from Evan's sight. He frowned, remembering the threat he made but it seemed as if she didn't take it seriously. No matter how much fun he had had in the last thirty-five minutes, he didn't like when people doubted him. From there on, Evan would do everything he could to fulfill his threat.

He walked into his house to find that it was empty, as usual. His mother traveled for work and usually was gone a few days at a time. He threw his backpack on the couch and ran up the stairs to change out of his clothes. After closing his door, he took off his shirt and was about to reach for his pants.

"You should close your curtains," Evanee called out from the window across the road. Evan looked at her and scowled, but replaced it with a smirk.

"You sure you want me to? I mean you're practically drooling right now," Evan wasn't embarrassed or ashamed of his half naked body. Girls went crazy over him.

Evanee scrunched her face up. "You wish loser." She shut her window and blinds. Evan smiled to himself and went to close his window, waiting a few seconds in hope that the strange girl would open it again and entertain him for a while more.
