Chapter Twenty-Three
Annie's POV-
"Damien!" I yell as Aralynn pulls him back.
She grins at me before lifting Damien right off his feet. I run after her as she sprints away. Aralynn is so quick. How? She climbs up the ladder to the Zodiac and I follow her. "Aralynn! I have the potion!" I yell, trying to follow her.
I climb up the ladder and see her disappear down in the cabin. I sprint down the stairs and see her enter her old room. "Aralynn!" I call.
I burst through the door and see her holding Damien with a knife at his throat. "Aralynn," I say quietly. "Please let him go. I have the spell. Potion. Whatever it is."
I take it out of my pocket and the old paper glows purple. I open it up and out comes a vial full of purple liquid. "It's both," she said. "The spell will help with the . . . pain and the potion is the thing I need most."
"What will it do?" I ask.
"Just give me the potion and I'll give you Damien," she snaps.
"No! Learn-"
Damien jerks back in surprise. He gurgles and blood drips through Aralynn's hand. "Aralynn!" I yell.
"Oops," she says with a small smile. "I guess I am . . . too strong."
"How?"
"I have other powers, you know," she says. "I also have telekinesis, elementalist, time manipulation, and x-ray vision and super strength."
I stare at her and it hits me. "Michael did this to you?" I whisper.
"Yes," she snarls, her eyes watering. "He tortured me. He gave me powers. I need her out of me."
"Who?" I ask quickly, noticing that Damien was white as a ghost.
"My sister. Our sister, Abigail. She is in me, like I was in Lightning. You know how she got her powers, right? Yeah she was struck by lightning but she almost died there so I was put in her to keep her alive."
I stare at her in shock. "Is that who Jessica was talking about?" I ask.
"Most likely," Aralynn replies. "Now, give me the potion!"
I throw the potion to her and she catches it with her left hand. "Give me Damien," I say.
She lets him go and he stumbles toward me. I catch him as he falls. "Hi Annie," he whispers, blood spurting from the cut on his throat. It wasn't big but it was kind of deep. Deep enough to kill.
"Stay with me, Damien," I say, tears coming to my eyes as Aralynn drinks the potion, quietly muttering the spell.
The ship shakes and a light blinds me. I stumble but don't fall because I'm holding Damien. The light fades away and there is another girl on the floor. Her eyes are closed but her blonde hair and blue eyes shakes me out of my stillness. "Light?" I whisper.
"It's not Light," Aralynn says. I look at her and her face is contorted in pain. "That's Abigail."
"Annie? Damien?" Light--Abigail-- says.
Her eyes open, looking over at Damien and me. "What did you do?" she asks Aralynn.
"I just cut his throat," Aralynn says. "No biggie."
"No biggie?" I yell. "Heal him! You have elementalist powers! You can heal!"
"Actually, I can't. I lost half of my powers. I still have telekinesis, x-ray, and super strength," she says, grinning.
"I have it," Abigail says quickly. She tries to stand up but falls back down.
I lay Damien down and drag him slowly toward Abigail. I finally reach him as Aralynn grabs my hair. "What do you want?" I snarl at her.
"Oh. To kill you," she says.
"Aralynn, no," Abigail says.
Aralynn starts to drag me back but she stops. I move a little and my hair falls out of her grip. "Did you stop the time?" I ask Abigail.
"Yes."
"Can you still heal Damien?"
"I'll try."
I sit down next to her and she feels where Damien's throat is. She waves her hands around and a deep blue glow envelops Damien. "He isn't healing," she whispers. "I need a master healer."
"I know who," I say. "Let me go get her. Keep the time stopped, okay?"
She nods as I run back to the deck. I jump off the side of the ship. I look around and use telekinesis to pick up a piece of wood lying around. It flies up to my feet and I soar through the air. Down I went, right next to Nailea. I use more telekinesis to pick her up. I fly back up to the ship with her and I land. I run back down to Light's room. "I got one," I say as I set her down on the floor.
"Okay. Let me make her be able to move," Abigail says.
She grunts and Nailea whips her arm out. "Woah," I say.
"How did I get here?" she asks me after seeing me.
"Me. Now, please heal Damien. He might be dying," I say quickly.
"Oh," she says, frowning. "Of course. Anything for Damien."
She bends down and puts her hands above his neck. The room glows green.
Abigail crawls next to me and says, "Not everyone can be saved."
"He can't die," I say. "He just can't."
"I thought Shun couldn't die but he did," she whispers.
"He is one of the most powerful people here! How could he die?"
"Ember is also powerful," she says.
I watch Nailea as she waves her hands around. "I can't save him," Nailea says frowning. "Someone get Ember. She might be able to."
"I will," I say, tears running down my face. I use the piece of wood and telekinesis to fly to my best friend. I grab her and we fly back. I set her down next to Nailea.
"I will need all of your guys' help," Nailea says. "You blonde-haired girl and Ember. You two will have to help me."
Abigail and Ember sit by Damien. They put their hands out over his neck and all their healing lights shine bright. I close my eyes, waiting for the glowing to stop. "He's okay," Ember breathes and I open my eyes, slinging my arms around Damien's neck.
He coughs and I laugh. "Damien," I breath.
"Annie, let go of me. I'm gonna suffocate if you don't," he says.
I laugh again as I let go of him. He smiles up at me as I grin. "I love you," he says, smiling. "I love you!"
I laugh happily, saying, "I love you too Damien!"
He hugs me and I bury my head in his shoulder. "Oh a happy reunion," I hear Aralynn say. "Gross."
I let go of him and I stand up. I walk over to her and slap her. "Oh, slapping your sister now?" she asks.
"I don't care that you're my sister," I say. "You tried to hurt my Damien."
"Fighting doesn't stop everything," Nailea says. "Peace will."
"Aralynn, Mom loves you," I say. "She wants you to know that she is sorry for everything."
"I don't care about Mother," she snarls. "She let me get tortured."
She sprints past us and runs outside. I start to run after her but someone grabs my arm. "Let go of me," I say to Ember.
"No," she says and I see her eyes. They're full of pain. "Today is Mom's last day to be alive. We have to save her!"
"Only Aralynn has the thing to save her," I say when Abigail cries out in pain.
"WHY CAN'T I GO FARTHER?" Aralynn yells from up on deck.
"You two are tethered together," Nailea says. "One of you can't go very far from each other."
"And how do you know this?" Ember asks.
"I just do. Even if I lived in earth for so long, I took studies here for learning how to give people powers," she says. "Now, let's go to Aria."
"Abigail, grab Aralynn when we get out there," Damien says. "Try to keep her under control."
"I'll try."
We run upstairs and Aralynn runs toward the side. Abigail runs to her and grabs her arm. "Come on. I can get us down there faster," I say.
"Or we could just fly right to the castle," Damien points out.
"It wouldn't go fast enough," Nailea points out.
"Fine. Let's sprint then," Ember says angrily. "As long as we get there."
"You two are elementalists. Use air to make us speed up," I say. "I can use my telekinesis to fly. Abigail, hold onto Aralynn while using your air powers too."
I run over to the wheel and press the button to make us go. Abigail, Ember, and Nailea swing their hands out and the ship goes faster and faster. We reach the castle in less than a minute. I feel the ship jerk and it stops.
"Let's go!" Ember yells. We run inside to find Jade, Ari, Aaron and . . . Shun. Ember stops when she sees Shun and Rafi runs into her.
Ember shakes herself and runs inside, bypassing Shun. Rafi follows her in and the rest of us do as well. We run to the queens quarters. Aria is lying on the bed, not breathing. "No," Ember says. "No. No! She can't be dead!"
She runs over to her mom and shakes her. "Where's Scarlet?" Nailea asks quietly.
"She's . . . she's-" Jade says from behind everyone. She bursts into tears and runs out of the room, Shun following her.
"She's in the library," Ari says. Nailea nods, tears running down her face as she goes to find her sister. Rafi walks up to Ember, enveloping her in a hug. He tries to drag her away from the body of her dead mother but she stayed right where she was.
I grab Damien's hand and he pulls me close to him. "I'm sorry," I tell him.
He nods blankly. "We uh need to crown Jade as queen," Nailea says, walking through the door. Scarlet follows her. She runs to Aria's side, crying. Damien walks up to his mom, putting his arms around her. "We'll do that soon."
"What about Aralynn and Kade?" I ask. "They need to be punished for what they did."
"Yes but we can't put Aralynn in jail because Abigail would have to go with her," Nailea says.
She walks over to her youngest sister and rests a hand on her back. "I will keep her in line," Abigail says. "But I don't know about Kade."
"And how is Shun back?" I ask.
"Jade brought him back," Ari says. "She's a necromancer."
I nod. "Let's get ready for the crowning," I say. "And then we'll need to plan a funeral for Queen Aria."
