Discussions and Threats

~This chapter backtracks some to right before Catelyn leaves the camp to meet with Renly~

It had been six days since Jaime saw Arabella. Six days since Jaime saw anyone from the immediate Stark family. Not that he could truly blame them, Jaime did not even want to be by himself either.

It was now the night on the sixth day when Jaime saw a Stark but it was not the one he wanted to see. Robb Stark is led by a man with a torch to where Jaime's cell. Robb enters Jaime's cell but keeps a great distance between him and his brother in law. Robb nods to the guard who walks away but could still be heard if he shouted. Grey Wind enters the cell as well, keeping close to Robb.

"King in the North. I keep expecting you to leave me in one castle or another for safekeeping, but you drag me along from camp to camp. Have you grown fond of me, Stark? Is that it? I've never seen you with a girl. Your brother always seems to steal them away from you," Jaime ponders aloud.

"If I left you with one of my bannermen, your father would know within a fortnight, and my bannerman would receive a raven with a message, "Release my son and you'll be rich beyond your dreams. Refuse and your house will be destroyed, root and stem." Then I would also have a letter asking for my sister to be returned as well to pay for a crime she had not part in. I do not wish to see her head on a pike next to my father's," Robb said sneering down at Jaime.

"You don't trust the loyalty of the men following you into battle? My father wouldn't let your sister die. She means too much to me, and she is carrying on my heirs. My father would see that she is moved to Casterly Rock, and Joffrey is not to touch her," Jaime explains.

"Oh, I trust them with my life. Just not with yours or my sister's," Robb tells him.

"Smart boy. What's wrong? Don't like being called 'boy'? Insulted," Jaime jests. Robb looks to behind Jaime. As Jaime nervously strains to look behind him, Grey Wind can be heard heavily walking to the man tied to the post.

"You insult yourself, Kingslayer. You've been defeated by a boy," Robb questions. With Grey Wind now fully in view, Jaime loses his brave facade.

"You're held captive by a boy. Perhaps you'll be killed by a boy," Robb continues on as Grey Wind turns his snot towards Jaime, who looks very nervous, "Stannis Baratheon sent ravens to all the high lords of Westeros. King Joffrey Baratheon is neither a true king nor a true Baratheon".

A howl from behind Jaime comes out and Grey Wind backs down slightly and Jaime focuses back on Robb.

"He's your bastard son," Jaime heard, catching the last of Robb's statement.

"If that's true, Stannis is the rightful king. How convenient for him," Jaime questions.

"My father learned the truth. That's why you had him executed," Robb says with slight anger.

"I was your prisoner when Ned Stark lost his head," Jaime rebutts.

"Your son killed him so the world wouldn't learn who fathered him. And you... you pushed my brother from a window because he saw you with the queen," Robb pushed.

"You have proof? Or do you want to trade gossip like a couple of fishwives," Jaime questions.

"I've heard from more reputable sources than that Kingslayer. My sister is very upset and hasn't left her tent since she and my mother came here to see you. I can't imagine a reason otherwise you telling her something that would have hurt her. That was not my reason for coming here, however I'm sending one of your cousins down to King's Landing with my peace terms," Robb tells Jaime.

"You think my father's going to negotiate with you? You don't know him very well," Jaime said with a slight chuckle.

"No, but he's starting to know me," Robb says.

"Three victories don't make you a conqueror," Jaime tells him.

"It's better than three defeats," Robb snarks back. He nudges Grey Wind towards Jaime and leaves the cage. Grey Wind gets close to Jaime's face, then the howl is heard again and Grey Wind backs up and leaves the cage.
