Can't People Be Nice Anymore
They had a few horses to help put more distance between the camp and them. Night had passed and the sun was beginning to make itself known.
"We stop here," Brienne said. Arabella got off of her horse, as did Amelia. When Amelia and Arabella turned to they saw her dismount and pull Jaime down to the floor.
"Damn," Jaime states as he lands on the ground. Arabella begins to walk over to the pair, as Brienne takes Jaime's hood off and helps him stand.
"You're much uglier in daylight. What's your name? I'm Jaime Lannister of Casterly Rock, son of Tywin," Jaime states. Arabella sighs and rolls her eyes. Brienne begins to lead the way pulling Jaime's chains.
"A captive knight has a right to know his captor's identity," Jaime says.
"She is Brienne of Tarth, Jaime," Bella says. Jaime looks back at his wife in amazement.
"Arabella, my dear little wife. I didn't know I was going to see you on this Journey. Hmm.... let me think. Tarth, Tarth, Tarth. Crescent moons and starbursts. Lord Selwyn Tarth. Your father. Do you have any brothers and sisters, my lady? It's a long way to King's Landing. Might as well get to know one another. Have you known many men? I suppose not. Women? Horses? Ah," Jaime begins again. This time he is pulled down by Brienne onto his knees. Before them a river bank, and a canoe nearby.
"I didn't mean to give offense, my lady. Forgive me," Jaime states, trying to relieve some of the tension.
"Jaime leave her be," Arabella tells him in annoyance.
"Your crimes are past forgiveness, Kingslayer," Brienne tells him.
"Why do you hate me so much? Have I ever harmed you," Jaime questioned.
"You've harmed others, those you were sworn to protect, the weak, the innocent," Brienne tells him.
"Has anyone ever told you you're as boring as you are ugly," Jaime questioned.
"Jaime," Arabella said in a scolding tone. Brienne then pulls Jaime to the river's edge.
"You will not provoke me to anger," Brienne tells him.
"He/I already have," Jaime and Arabella say in unison.
"Look at you. You're ready to chop my head off. Do you think you could? Do you think you could beat me in a fair fight," Jaime continues with a smile.
"I've never seen you fight," Brienne states.
"No, but I have. I even fought him a few times. I think I could win," Arabella says.
"Dear I wouldn't fight you, not in your condition. Otherwise you would be very close to beating me. In regards to you Brienne of Tarth. The answer is no. There are three men in the kingdoms who might have a chance against me. You're not one of them," Jaime told the big woman.
"All my life men like you have sneered at me. And all my life I've been knocking men like you into the dust," Brienne stated.
"If you're so confident, unlock my chains. Let's see what happens," Jaime badgedered on.
"Do you take me for an idiot? In," Brienne tells Jaime. Arabella, Mystic, Amelia get in the canoe, and look at Jaime who begins to fray about before laying down his head by Arabella's feet.
"You know Brienne, you could always hit him with the oar over the head. Then we'd get some silence and worry less about him making a scene.
"You know, that's not very nice Amelia. I thought we were coming to an understanding of some sort," Jaime says with a pout before directing his conversation back to Brienne, "I took you for a fighter, a man Pardon. Woman of honor. Was I wrong? You're afraid.
"Maybe one day we'll find out, Kingslayer," Brienne tells him before she launches the canoe and paddles it downstream.
"We can find out when we-," Jaime is cut off.
"Jaime, shut it. You are starting to stress me out, which I heard isn't good for the babies," Bella pipped in, knowing that it will give them some moments of peace while they float because above all else, Jaime will protect his children even if it means putting his ego aside to decrease the stress on Bella.
Back at the Stark Camp, things begin to get worse for Catelyn. Not only had her son arrived back from his talk with news that Jaime had gotten away, but Rickon and Bran were being held captive back at their home. The north was beginning to lose its steam in this fight, and it seemed to Catelyn that she made the right call to send Jaime and Arabella away. Even if Catelyn didn't see her girls again she knew that Jaime was going to be true to his word and send the girls back home and away from the capital. Robb may be a good king, but he is still young and selfish. Putting his needs before his courts and his army. Catelyn was starting to see it unwind, and deteriorate, and all she wished was that her children make it through the war.
