Chapter 4 ~ Keefe

Keefe was wandering the streets of San Francisco. Mommy dearest gave him an 'amazing' ability that he couldn't control.

His mind kept wandering to what Ro had said to him. She told him that he had to tell Sophie that he loved her, but now he had lost that chance. Fitz would just have to take the stop he wanted. He would never see Foster again, but again to keep Foster and all the people in the lost cities safe he had to leave the lost cities. And he could change the choice he already made.

His plan was to go ask Amy for a place to stay, all he could do was hope that she wouldn't tell Foster where he was hiding.

"Hey. . . " Amy started, as she opened the door. "Wait, aren't you that boy my sister was friends with from the lost cities!?"

"Yeah," Keefe mumbled.

"Why are you here?" Amy asked him.

"Are your parents home?" he asked, avoiding the question.

"No. They just went out 10 minutes ago, you came at the right time. They won't be here for the next few days, vacation. Let's go inside and you can tell me why you are here. Don't avoid the question!" Amy said.

How does Amy know everything? They went inside Amy's house. "Why are you here, Keefe?" she demanded.

"So. . ." Keefe started.

He told Amy the whole story of his ability and his mom. He also told her about how he could never go back to the lost cities.

"So, you're never going back to the lost cities?" Amy asked him.

"Yep, to protect Foster and all the elves I can not go back." Keefe answered. "You can't tell anyone about me being here, please. Especially Foster."

"Fine, for now. But someday you will have to tell my sister. She called me the day you left her and she told me she could never survive the Neverseen without you. And also by the way, the Neverseen attacked a store in Atlantis. You have to go help her. She needs you." Amy stated.

"I can't!" Keefe told her. "Until I can control my ability I can't go back. And controlling this ability will be impossible."

"Oh, sure." Amy said, rolling her eyes. "We'll see."

"Promise you won't tell Foster." Keefe pleaded.

"Like I said, I won't tell her for now." Amy said. "If I feel that she really needs you then I will tell her, and be ready for that."

Keefe stared at the floor. He knew Foster was super mad at him, she probably hated him. She could definitely survive the Neverseen without him. She was strong, brave, caring, beautiful, cute, and amazing. . . . . Keefe kept thinking about her.

"Keefe, stop daydreaming about her. Why don't you just tell her that you like her?" Amy asked.

Keefe looked at the ground. He knew it was obvious that he liked her, but "The Sophie Oblivion" was still happening. And also, if he told her that he liked her then she would just tell him that she didn't like him back. She would definitely choose Fitz over him. After all he was just a boy with mommy and daddy issues.

"Oh. Keefe. Just tell her, okay." Amy told him, giving him a are you stupid look. "So, where are you gonna stay?"

"Ummm, that's why I came here. I thought you would know a good place to stay." Keefe mumbled.

"Oh, you can stay here if you want. Just for a few days until my parents come back and then you can move to a good place that I can think of." Amy answered thoughtfully.

So for the rest of the day, Keefe and Amy looked for good places that he could stay in and hide forever. They found a few good options. Keefe loved the Extended Stay America. They had those cool elfy cookies for snack and for dinner that had something called pizza and it was so good.

"So what do you think about human food?" Amy asked him while taking a bite of her third slice.

"Good." Keefe mumbled, eating his fifth slice.

"I thought so." Amy smirked. "But, you elves have mallowmelt and that is the best!"

After they ate, Keefe went into the guest room and tried to sleep. He couldn't, which was a given. So he took out his gold journal and drew a picture of Foster, which somehow made him fall asleep!

                                                                                       . . .

Keefe woke up to hear Amy talking to someone. Who was it? Keefe sneaked behind the door of Amy's room.

"Sophie, it's okay." Amy said. "I don't think it is a good idea."

So she was talking to Foster. Keefe felt his heart stop beating. Foster! Wait, what wasn't a good idea?

"No, Sophie. You should stay there and listen to that old man!" Amy replied to something Sophie said.

"Don't go looking for him alone. It isn't safe, Sophie. Listen to me. Please." Amy continued.

"I don't know Amy, is he ever going to come back?" he heard Sophie ask.

"He will for you, Sophie. Just wait." Amy told her.

"Bye!" Sophie said. She said something after that but Keefe couldn't hear.

"Okay then, I'll see you tomorrow." Amy said.

Keefe quickly ran back to the guest room. What did Amy mean by see you tomorrow? Did she tell her that he was staying here for the next few days? Keefe panicked. He just buried his face in his pillow and stayed there for like 10 minutes.

"Good Morning, Keefe!" Amy said, opening the door.

"Keefe!" she said again.

"Hey." he mumbled.

"Oh, I see. Did you listen in on my conversation with Sophie?" Amy asked suspiciously.

Keefe didn't answer.

"I'll take that as a yes." Amy said. "If you want breakfast then get your butt over to the dining table."

Keefe quickly took a shower, changed and ran over to where Amy was standing. He didn't care about his hair since there was no Foster to show it off for. Amy was already eating something flat and round with something red on the top of it. There was also a white cream.

"You'll like this." Amy said, eating.

Keefe copied Amy and took a round thing with some red things and some white cream. He sat down on the chair opposite of Amy and took a bite.

"Mmm, what is this? It's amazing." Keefe asked her.

"This is called a pancake, the red fruit is called strawberries and the white cream is called whipped cream." Amy told him. (I love pancakes, I am getting hungry while writing. Oh, please give me some!)

"Sounds like the pankes tree." Keefe jokes to himself.

"So, you know that I talked with Sophie today. She is coming over in like 20 minutes. After you eat, just go into the guest room and close the door. I will lock it and just stay there making no noise until she leaves. I won't tell her you're here, but if she finds out herself. . .You know what might happen." Amy told him.

Keefe choked on his food "She is coming here? I need to get out of this place!"

"Ah, you see. She will probably be here in like 5 minutes and if you want to take the risk of getting caught then go ahead." Amy warned him.

"I guess not," Keefe mumbled.

The doorbell rang. Keefe panicked and just sat where he was.

"Ke. . . ." Amy kicked herself for the slip and motioned for Keefe to go into the room.

"Keesha, I will talk to you later. Call me tomorrow. Right now my parents are calling and I need to go! Bye, Keesha!" Amy quickly acted as if she was talking to her friend Keesha and ran to open the door.

Keefe knew that Amy was a smart girl but didn know that she had planned for everything. Even a tiny slip. Well, she did live in the human world knowing about elves. He quickly shut the door. He didn't want Foster to see him, but his curiosity was taking over and he peeked from the almost closed door and saw Sophie Foster standing there. . .
