(1)Promise
I remember our first kiss.
At the ocean, chasing you barefoot on the atmospherically altered sand.
I remember the slight burning sensation that I felt every time my foot slammed onto the ground, one after another.
I knew that you wanted me to catch you, but you weren't going to make it easy on me.
Running faster, finally directly behind you, I grabbed you and threw you easily over my shoulder.
You really weren't very heavy.
I walked us back to our beach towel with you giggling and hitting my back, pretending to hate being sat upon my shoulder.
I honestly knew already that you actually enjoyed the view.
Setting you down on the towel, I just watched you. Red-faced, out of breath, and absolutely perfect.
You looked beautiful, as you always do, but there was something just so much better about seeing the playful smile settled on your lips, the way your eyes twinkled in the sunlight, your dark brown hair falling slightly onto your face.
I remember thinking about how much I wanted to take a picture of you then.
Ignoring the thought, I decided to stick with memorizing your face as usual.
Brushing the hair off your face, I placed my palm gently against your cheek.
Staring into your eyes, I leaned in, closer to you, letting our lips meet in what I can only explain as the most blissful moment of my entire life.
The best part was, when our lips parted, and I stared into your eyes once more, I didn't see regret, fear,or disappointment. I saw joy, and happiness.
And at that moment, you laughed.
I had always thought it to be the best sound known to the entire universe.
But that's all over now. Everything has changed, and I'm afraid that I will never feel that way again. Not that I was supposed to in the first place.
They made me forget your name.
They tried to make me forget your face, your touch, your smile. Everything. But I promised you one thing and I am determined to keep it.
I will never forget you.
