Origins of the Orb
It took roughly an hour for us to commandeer the Dark Order vessel and reach Knowhere. Located inside the severed head of an ancient Celestial being, it is known as a safe haven for outlaws due to the absence of rules and regulations.
It is here where we'll find answers. And if my hunch is right...
I shrugged off that thought, pulling the ship at the edge of Knowhere.
"Max, Glen, you guys are coming with me. I'm taking a small group of three only. And James," turning to my navigations officer, "You're in charge of the ship till we return."
I handed a blaster to each of them. Making sure we're fully prepared, we stepped outside. When out of earshot, Max whispered." Sir, Glen's our communications officer. Shouldn't he stay on board?"
" I chose him because he's handy with a blaster. As are you."
Knowhere became an important spot since the Tivan group sent in workers to mine the organic matter within the skull. The bone, brain tissue, spinal fluid. All rare resources, highly valued in black markets across the Galaxy. Dangerous and illegal work, suitable only for outlaws.
Having shedded our jackets, there remained no evidence of us being Nova officers. We walked up to the New Collector's museum, where we would find the answers.
Entering the building, I told one of his men to send word of our arrival. Glen, agitated since our arrival, spoke up." Sir, who are we seeing here?"
"We've come to talk to the Collector."
"Collector? That white-haired, crazy old freak with an acute obsession for..."
"No, he's dead. We've come to talk to his son, Shamseer Tivan."
Tivan's attendent came to inform that his master was ready to receive us. We followed him to his master.
"Ah, gentlemen. What came I do for you?" Tivan's airy voice greeted us. He was about our age,red hair, and bright shining eyes. He'd obviously inherited his father's talent for collecting, since the whole room was filled with artifacts of all places and times.
"What can you tell us about this?" I held out the orb.
Tivan's eyes glinted with recognition.
"Ah,this. Would you mind telling me where you got it?"
" I would." I spoke with finality.
His face fell. "Very well then."
He took the orb and placed it in a machine. It clutched two sections of the orb and began to twist them anti-clockwise. A faint purple glow emitted from inside.
"Ah, my new friends." Tivan leant over it. "Before creation itself, there were six singularities. Then the universe exploded into existence, and the remnants of these systems were forged into concentrated ingots...... Infinity Stones. Observe."
Both the sections of the orb were pulled apart, revealing a purple stone glowing inside. A hiccup lurched in my throat,as my eyes reflected the same glow, but due to fear. Tivan continued.
"These stones can only be wielded by beings of extraordinary strength. To spend new life,or mow down entire civilizations like wheat in a field. There are six stones in all- the Space Stone, the Mind Stone, the Reality Stone, the Time Stone, the Power Stone and the Soul Stone-each possessing unique powers. No being could assemble all six of them together."
"Until recently." My voice was a mere whisper as I tried to comprehend the new circumstances. After all I learnt, we were still lucky we had the stone with us.
"Yes,recently the Mad Titan, Thanos, embarked on a quest to find the Infinity Stones. He assembled them in his Infinity Gauntlet, which gave him power over the cosmos and made him almost invincible. Fortunately,he's dead now, and the Stones are scattered again."
Glen scratched his head." But then, why does everyone want this Stone? It is not like they have the other five."
"Don't you understand?" Max glared." Each of the Stones gives the possessor extreme power. If we can deliver it to the Nova Corps, we could win this war!" He rubbed his hands in excitement.
"And start another Infinity War?" I spit." No, Max. Nobody is safe with these Stones around. They are better left alone."
"But, sir.."
"I don't think you need to worry about that." Tivan intervened. " I'll be extremely glad to include this to my collection."
"WHAT??" I blurted out. To be honest, I hadn't seen that coming." You're not keeping the Stone. I only came to you to know what it was."
Tivan shook his head sadly. "In that case, our business is finished. Good day, gentlemen."
Tivan's guards came up with their weapons drawn. As one grabbed my arm, my right foot made contact with his chest. As he crumpled down in pain,I kicked him in the face. He dropped down on the ground. Looking behind, I saw the other two guards suffering the same fate. I pointed my blaster at Tivan.
"We are going with the orb, whether you like it or not."
Tivan smiled as he held up his hands in mock surrender." Are you sure about that?"
"Yes."
"We'll see about that." A gruff voice said from behind. As I spun around, I felt a sharp blow on my face. My weapon dropped as I fell on my knees.
"That's for what you did earlier." I heard the familiar voice of the Klingon Commander.
I looked to see Max and Glen holding their hands up in surrender, with a few guards aiming at them. Tivan smiled as he caressed the orb.
"Don't hasten anything. I want him to suffer slowly." I heard someone say. Clutching my bleeding nose,I turned to see a tall, dark person walking towards me. His appearance was well-known to me, except that the glint in his eyes was that of evil. The scar on his face from our recent encounter did little to comfort me, as rage and disgust boiled in me. He had betrayed his own species for money, willingly massacred women, children, families without hesitation. He had betrayed me.
"Maz." I hissed.
