"Yorktown,this is the Jackal, requesting permission to land.Over."

"Jackal,this is Yorktown.We hear you.Passcode,please.Over."

I tilted my head backwards."Glen?"
My communications officer nodded."Yes,sir.Transmitting passcode,now."
There was a slight pause.Then we heard from the other end."Passcode confirmed,Jackal. The gate's opening.Please proceed to Landing Pad 9."
"Will do, Yorktown."I nodded.
The ship's hyperdrives slowed down  as we approached the hangar.A slight bump told me that we had landed.

I leaned forward to reach the speaker."Max,this is the captain."I said."Shut down the engines and open the launch door."
"Will do,sir."
I got up from my seat.Stretching my arms,I took the elevator down to the lower level of the ship,where my crew was already stepping into the vast artificial planet created by the peacekeepers of the galaxies,the Nova Corps.

Yorktown was the newest base created by the Nova Corps.After the Battle of Earth and the destruction of Xandar, the Nova Corps took intergalactic security and peace extra seriously.They built a number of security stations and artificial planets to maintain different sectors of the galaxies.Yorktown is the latest,with all state-of-the-art facilities- anti-gravitional trains,warp technology, mini-teleporters.They even managed to create a compatible atmosphere for various species to reside in.

I was taking in my vast surroundings when I heard someone calling me from behind.
"Captain! Captain!"
I turned around to see my First Officer,Max, running towards me.He was twenty-two,four years younger than me,quite tall, with a slim muscular body.His dark hair was a mess.As always.

I turned to him."What is it,Max?"
"Sir, all the reports for the Outer Rim seiges have been compiled and waiting for your approval.Maz Wabrey was again grumbling about how we are taking too much space.Our technicians have gone to the depot to pick up materials,and ...."
He blabbered off so fast that I couldn't catch half of what he said.I finally stopped him by jerking him on the shoulder."Hey,Max ,calm down.We are here to rest for a couple of days.We aren't going on any missions anytime soon."

He finally calmed down.This time,he talked a little slower."And Vice Admiral Runcan wants to speak to you,sir."

I frowned."Why?"
He shook his head."I don't know sir.One of his men told me to inform you to meet him."
I ran a hand through my tousled hair."Okay,I will visit him later."
Max emphasized,"He wants to see you now,sir."

"What?Why now?"

He shook his head.

I grumbled"Fine"and strode off in the direction of the Command Centre,the biggest building on the planet.Passing through the glass-doors,I paused at the reception."Hi,I am Captain Steve F.."
"The Vice-Admiral has been expecting you,Captain Fleming."the receptionist interrupted.She handed me a key-card."Scan this at the elevator and it will take you to the 62nd floor,where he's expecting you."
I mumbled a thanks and strode off towards the elevator,my head swirling with questions.

The top floors,unlike the lower ones,were different in the sense that fewer people worked here.I walked down the hallway to the Vice-Admiral's office.Knocking on the door,I heard his deep voice."Come in."

He was waiting by his table as I approached. He was a tall,dark man,about 60 or so. Nearly all of his hair had turned white. It may not be decipherable from seeing him, but he was a brave soldier, a hero of the Battle of Earth.
"Come have a seat, Captain Fleming."he gestured to a seat near him."There is something about which I would like to speak to you."

I sat down and looked at him.
He continued."So, you and your crew are on a break now."
I nodded.
"Unfortunately, that break has to be cut short.I need to send you on an important mission right away."
He took out a box from his table.On opening it,I saw a rather strange looking orb staring back at me.I looked at the Vice Admiral with questioning eyes.
"This orb rightfully belongs to the Mecander species,of the Rinoforium system."he said."It was thought to be lost for years, until it was recovered a few months ago. We would like to return it to them as a sign of allegiance and friendship.I I am entrusting you and your crew to return it to them safely."

I nodded."When shall we leave, sir?"
"As soon as possible."
"It will be done, sir."
He shook my hand."Good. And that will be all. Good luck,Captain."

It took me quite some time to gather my crew. Some weren't happy that their break had been cut short, but nonetheless everybody was gathered in half an hour.
I took my seat."Everyone,take your positions.We will be launching in three,two, one.....now!"

There was a steady humming as the engines powered up.Exiting Yorktown,I leaned forward to reach the speaker."Glen, start the hyperdrives."
"Yes,sir."
There was a vroom as the hyperdrives kicked into power,and the Jackal, the best spaceship in the fleet,warped off into the unknown,in the search of a new adventure.
