Answers (Part 2)

Nemesis looked silently at the computer screen, his teeth gritted and fists clenched, yet managing to put on a calm facade. His inner turmoil, however, raged on like a blazing fire, purging everything in its path.

He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down. With shaking hands, he reached out and pressed a button, switching the computer off. Still writhing in betrayal and shock, he staggered back into the hallway.

How he found his way back into his room he didn't know, but the first thing he did was sit on the edge of his bed, take his mask off, take a deep breath, and comprehend the staggering revelation he had moments ago. Surprisingly, the first emotion in his mind wasn't anger or betrayal, it was something else entirely. Something he didn't recall having felt before.

Guilt.

Flashes of his massacres appeared before his eyes. Men, elders, women, children, all he had slaughtered mercilessly. Snatching away lives of people appeared child's play to him, but no longer.

His heart burdened with the immense guilt he was suffering from, the days of his reign of terror finally catching up to him. He felt as if he was standing in a field of bloodied, burnt mutilated corpses, their lifeless eyes staring at his own. Everything was burning, the sky painted a deep scarlet. He tried to move, but his feet were stuck to the ground as if it was quicksand. With a shock, he realized that he was getting pulled downwards. He tried to run, but his feet didn't budge. He cried out for help, yet no sound erupted from his throat. He tried to push away the clawing hands of the corpses who were pulling him down, but they were stronger, their souls seeking justice and vengeance. Slowly and steadily, he was sucked in by the corpses, all the while trying to scream for help, until all that remained of him was his hand outstretched, seeking for help, as the darkness swallowed him whole.

Nemesis jumped up with a growl, tearing him away from his vision. No way would he go like that.

Or would he?

As he stood there motionless, he suddenly felt a little light-headed. Feeling dizzy, he tried to compose himself, but failed. His feet gave away as he dropped onto the ground unconscious, drowning in oblivion.
A distant memory came fleeting into his mind.

Chaos. Total chaos surrounds me as I fight my way through the ranks of the monsters. They were strong before, but with Thanos's arrival, they seem more powerful and rejuvenated.

I struggled to keep my balance. All around me, people were dragged down into the pit, as if some invisible force was pulling them into the darkness. Our fleet, or whatever was left of it, came plumelling down to the earth.
In the distance, the Titan smirked cruelly.

Before I knew it, a scorching beam of energy hit me square in the chest."AAAAH!" I screamed out in pain. My weapons fell, as I clutched my bleeding chest in pain. It felt like my whole body was burning furiously. I was covered in my own blood which kept on oozing out from my chest. My vision became blurry. My foot slipped.

"Captain,no!" I heard a scream in the distance.

Before I knew it, I was falling into the abyss, a bloody burnt figure, claimed by oblivion, to the point of no return.

The events after that passed by in a blur, till another memory resurfaced.

I struggled against my restraints, kicking, punching with force I've never felt before. My eyeballs were literally popping out of their places.

"Oh, my God! What's happening?" I heard someone gasp.

"He's mutating." a calmer, feminine voice replied.

I heard a smirk, and felt a famaliar radiance of power. "Prep him. I want him in, for the Nemesis Program."

Thanos.

The last voice was his.

The exclamation of shock was by Corvus Glaive, and the calmer reply was by Proxima Midnight.

Nemesis remembered.

The Battle of Earth. He was there. Fighting. For the humans. Against Thanos's army. They were winning till the Titan had arrived. The humans lost. And Nemesis was thought to be dead, and he nearly was, until Thanos revived him.

But at what cost? His memories were taken away from him, he was stripped of his identity, separated from his friends and family, brainwashed into a soldier.

Nemesis shot up as if electrocuted, his eyes blazing with a fury for vengeance. Thanos tore him apart, destroyed him, now it's time for the Titan to receive some of his own medicine. Nemesis looked at himself. It's time he truly acknowledged his name. Both of them.

One being Nemesis, the God of revenge.
One being Captain Steve Fleming, who will arise from the ashes once again.

He felt all of the day's frustration mounting within him. In a rare moment of unrestrained emotion, he threw back his head and let out a bellow of rage.

The roar was deafening.

Inside the tower, all the guards spun and stared up at the floor of their masters. From the sounds of things, Thanos's Tower of Death was now being used to cage a wild animal.

Meanwhile, on another floor, Thanos assembled his children. His face not showing even an ounce of remorse for Maw's death, he turned his ice-cold cruel visage towards the Black Order.

"How can we assist you, Father?" Proxima asked.

Thanos looked at his daughter. "A few days ago, a shipment of weapons bound for Earth was intercepted by the Rebels. It was classified information, yet they had no trouble reaching the exact place at the exact time. I demand an explanation."

"Well, it does depend on how many people knew about it," she replied.

"Nobody except you three and my generals. Not only that, I've noticed an increased frequency of Rebel attacks on my secret bases. Classified information is being leaked. Resources stolen." Thanos's eyes grew red with anger. "There is a traitor among you three."

"What??!" All three started, jumping on shock.

"Father I assure you, no-nobody is more loyal to you than u-us." Corvus stuttered.

"We will never fail you Father." Proxima added. Cull gave a brief nod.

Thanos glowered at his children, and a cruel smirk appeared on his face. "I never taught you to lie, that's why you are so bad at it." he sneered. "If you won't tell the truth, then perhaps a test of faith will." The Space Stone on his gauntlet glowed.

Before anyone could do anything, tendrils of darkness shot out from the gauntlet. They whisked past Proxima, barely missing her, and wrapped themselves around her brother's neck, cutting off his oxygen. The alien gagged, his weapon fell from his hands, and he desperately tried to free himself.

"Br-brother?!" Proxima staggered back along with the other member of the Black Order, gasping at the alleged traitor.

Thanos held up a datapad and opened a security hologram. It showed a hooded, cloaked figure standing in front of a computer talking quietly with a Rebel leader. As he spoke, he glanced around stealthily, as if afraid of getting caught.

Another hologram showed the same figure hacking into the database and copying the files in a flash drive. Unleashing a virus in the computer mainframe, he turned to another device and inserted the flash drive, sending all the information to other destinations.

Thanos put away the datapad, and glared at the traitor, tightening the hold on his neck. "Anything left to say, Corvus Glaive?"

Corvus, the traitor, was growing pale by the second due to lack of oxygen, and his struggles did him no good. Lifted off the ground, he hovered in the air, gagging, struggling, till the tight grip broke his neck. Thanos released his hold over his son, and Corvus's lifeless body slumped on the ground.

Thanos stood up from his throne, and looked at his two remaining children, who were aghast with fear. "Betray me, and a fate worse than death will follow. Now leave me, and clean up this mess." They readily complied.

Thanos sat back on his throne, dejected. Pawns are of no use, they will never do the job assigned. They are flawed, useless and easily replaceable. With two of his children dead, Thanos knew that now he had to snatch away two more orphans from distant planets and brainwash them into obeying him. He sighed.

Fun sure isn't something one considers while balancing the universe.

Mid-terms are going on!😖😖 It seems like it's never ending. It's been quite a long time that I could open Wattpad. I hope this chapter is better than the others.
So Nemesis remembers. Question is, what will he do? Will he continue to stand with Thanos, or will he rebel? Let's see.
