Then and Now
When the world came into focus again, Rose was a little shocked to find that she was sitting in the back seat of the Impala. Dean in the driver's seat, and Sam in the passenger seat, this was too normal. Dean turned around to look at her,
"Memorial Park?" he asked, gesturing to the green park out in front of them.
"What year is this?" Sam asked, "This looks like home,"
"Yeah, I mean look at what you're wearing Sammy. Didn't that shirt get burned to a crisp about 6 months ago?"
Rose shook her head. "This isn't home, if we were home we would be back at the diner in Arkansas... Or maybe back in the Bunker. Wait... We've been here. Remember, back in 2011?"
"Yeah, Yeah I remember that. We came here after a case. To watch the stars at night, why did Gabriel put us here?" Dean said.
"Are we in California?" Sam asked.
"Yeah, this is a tiny little bedroom community. We had a demon messing with a local high school, you weren't here though. This happened when you had that awful stomach flu, remember?" Rose told Sam
"Yeah, I remember..."
"But still why here, we came here after the case?" Dean insisted.
They were all quiet for a while, the memory started to become clearer as the time passed. Dean remembered, finishing the hunt and wanting to take a night off.
"What do you say, we take a break from the rode Rosie? Walk around, eat some real food, watch the stars, stay in a real hotel?" he asked.
"Don't get ahead of yourself Dean, real hotels equals real money, remember?" Rose had laughed "But everything else sounds good to me," she said standing up on her tip toes to kiss his cheek. He had smiled at this and took her hand.
They spent the evening walking around in their town plaza, going into the different stores just to poke around and look at things, just to be normal for a little bit. They stopped at a real restaurant, and had a real dinner. They went into an old fashioned candy store and bought some things for the rode and some of Sam's favorite candy.
They had gone into almost all of the stores, there was only one left, a small jewelry store. They looked around, Dean noticed Rose looking at a particularly beautiful necklace, with a red gem on it. When Rose, saw he was watching her, she turned away, and went to ask the store clerk where the nearest park was, where they could get the best view of the sky.
Dean, moved in closer to look at the necklace maybe he could order it and give it to Rose for Christmas or her birthday or something. The price tag was high, he had closed his eyes, and sighed. He wanted to get the necklace for her, but like she said nice things cost a lot of money. He turned away from the necklace, and went outside to wait for her.
She came out and told him about the park on a hill, where they would definitely be able to see the stars. As the sky grew darker, Dean drove the Impala and his Rose to the perfect spot. She brought the blanket she always kept in the back seat, and spread it out on the grass.
Dean didn't know what Rose was thinking about beside him, but he was thinking about Rose and how he couldn't buy her that necklace, and how he was a lucky man to have her. He thought about the stars and how they are so far away, but shine so bright. Dean thought about the times, he and Sam had driven out to the middle of nowhere to do just this, and how different it was with Rose rather than Sam.
Dean shook his head, clearing away the memory. The Impala was still silent, and Sam and Rose were remembering their own versions of today all that time ago. Dean knew why he was here, and knew exactly what to do.
