"Somewhere in between life and death." The nurse managed to gain enough confidence so she could tell him the news.
"Alright...tell me once she chose her path." With a cold stare he walked away.
It hurt a lot to say something so mean about Emelie who was once his wife but Gabriel tried his best to walk back to Nathalie's room without having second thoughts about her. Just as he walked beside Emelie's room and he could hear the heartbeat machine's long beep that signaled she was no longer breathing, he had to open the door.
Gabriel quick ran to the sleeping woman and held onto her hand whilst he looked up at the strait line that ran across the machine.
"Come on Emelie! You can make it! Don't you dare die again!...you hear me?!?! I SAID DON'T YOU DARE DIE!!"
The young nurse saw Gabriel hopelessly holing onto his ex-wife but because she was still to afraid to confront him, she just walked away.
"WHO'S GONNA TAKE CARE OF ADRIEN?? I-I CAN'T!! LOOK AT ME, I'M USELESS!! AND PLEASE DON'T MAKE POOR NATHALIE HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF SOMEONE WHO ISN'T EVEN HER OWN SON! EMELIE PLEASE WAKE UP, I'M A USELESS WRETCH...Emelie please."
"Umm Mr. Agreste...I think she's de-"
"I KNOW SHE'S DEAD YOU IMBECILE!! JUST LEAVE ME ALONE! AND DO NOT DARE TELL MY NATHALIE ABOUT THIS!! IF YOU DARE TO EVEN MENTION THE NAME EMELIE I'LL RIP YOUR MOUTH OFF OF YOUR FACE, UNDERSTOOD?"
She nurse nodded before running away crying, Gabriel seeing what he had done he turned away to face Emelie once more.
After he could finally look at Emelie without crying he managed to say his last goodbye, this time it was a goodbye forever...until they meet again in heaven, or hell.
"Seems like you chose death...living was never meant for you my dear. Thank you for the memories and well-...Adrien. Rest In Peace, you certainly deserve it."
He ran his fingers across her perfectly smooth hair and with a final smile he left.
"Mr Agreste!"
"Yes, she's dead...I know."
"Umm about that-...do we tell your son or-..."
"Tell him to say his goodbyes."
"And the funeral?"
The young nurse tried to be as polite as possible but talking to 'Mr. Agreste' was never an easy task. Gabriel turned around to give her a threatening look and with one word he got her all shaking and terrified.
"Don't-" Gabriel had never looked more serious then he did now. With one foot he stepped closer to the nurse and gazed down at the (compared to him) shorter woman.
"Pardon?"
"I said don't! Can't you hear? Don't hold a funeral! I want her in a casket and 6 feet underground by tomorrow!"
"Y-yes as you wish."
Gabriel still fuming he turned away and walked towards Nathalie's room so he could bring her the depressing news.
As he knocked and entered the room he could
tell Nathalie was still asleep, so whilst he waited for her to wake up he sat beside her on the edge of the bed and stroke her hair.
Soon Nathalie woke up to the strange feeling of someone caressing her face.
"Is she-?" These were the first words Nathalie said whilst she shot up from bed.
"Dead." Gabriel responded and that got Nathalie flustered a bit. She thought Gabriel would deny her death but as he didn't continue his sentence Nathalie knew something was wrong.
"Is she-?" She asked again.
"Yes...yes she's gone."
Seeing the heartbroken expression on Gabriel's face Nathalie placed her hand on top of his and immediately felt a strong feeling of pain rush up her body and tears streamed down her face.
"She's gone? For real?"
"For real."
"All that we've worked for gone-..."
"Hush that's not-...I mean you helped me a lot but she's not the one I want, I want you Nathalie, you and you alone. It's just quite hard to-...after all she is the mother of my son."
"Don't you dare be sorry for having feelings. She was a great woman. And you Gabriel-...you were and still you are a good man, for her and for me."
In between sobs he looked up at Nathalie who was always there to lean a little closer and hug him a little tighter.
"Let's give her a proper burial."
"No-! I don't want it! Just get her away from me as fast as possible!"
"But-...for Adrien, for Amelie and Felix."
"I thought you hated them?"
"I do, but Emelie was also someone to them, and they also need to say their goodbyes."
"I just don't know if I can handle it-...seeing her like that..." Gabriel completely broke apart and he even hid his face in his palm.
His crying grew stronger and soon he was uncontrollably shedding tears.
"That's why I'm here! To help you get through it!" Nathalie rubbed his back like mothers did when their kid was sick or sad, Gabriel wasn't her kid but she loved him with all of her heart and would have done anything to see him smile, the cost didn't matter, all she wanted was happiness in this man's life.
She went to unexplainable extents to please him, and she never expected anything in return, and sometimes we don't need anything in return, because seeing people happy is already enough.
"God Nathalie, you're incredible, thank you! I don't know how to make up for this."
"That's my job, to take care of you, no need to make up for it."
"Job or not you deserve the world, and although I can't give that to you, I'll try my best."
Little did he know one small kiss from him meant the world for her, so giving her the world wouldn't be more than a couple of kisses. Nathalie completely lost in the idea of him doing things for her, she totally forgot about Emelie. At this point Nathalie could imagine her and Gabriel getting together but there she got a little ahead of herself, because now we are only getting ready for Emelie's burial.
