Glittering jewellery
I know I've said this already, but I truly love Te'tai.
I'm considering writing a couple of one shots for her and Hunter's thing...
Tw: Blunt language.
Saria was finally done with her shift and started walking home, but not before Te'tai promised to comm her as soon as she could the next day. She'd said she'd be occupied that night, then later Saria saw her and Hunter leave the bar together.
Saria entered the house, saw food already set out to eat, and Eric sitting at the table waiting for her.
"Hello Saria, I picked up dinner for us," he signed in BSL, his movements choppy.
"What for?" Saria signed.
"Sorry babe, I only learned that one phrase," Eric kissed her and shoved her into a chair. "But enjoy the meal."
Saria dug into the meal, loving not having to cook dinner for the first time in... a long time.
Eric enjoyed his own food, and kept stopping to glance up at her with an excited smile.
When they were finished, Eric swept the plates away to the sink and took a deep breath. Saria moved to clean the dishes, but Eric gently steered her away from them.
"Those can wait, and I have something to give you," Eric beamed at her.
Saria tilted her head.
"I love you Saria," Eric leaned his forehead against hers. "I love you so much, and I've finally gathered my courage to do this."
He fell to one knee.
Saria's eyes widened and she looked around like it might be some prank, and that people were waiting to laugh at her.
"Will you marry me?" Eric asked and pulled out a small box with a glittering piece of jewelry in it.
Saria bit her lip as she thought it over.
"Yes."
"I'm so glad I learned the symbols for yes and no too!" Eric jumped in the air then hugged her. "I love you so much Saria!"
He slipped the ring onto her finger, where a large diamond sat. Saria gasped softly at the shine on it.
"Eric, isn't this a bit expensive? We're barely making rent," Saria signed, then typed it out on her datapad.
"Oh you're worth it!" Eric said after he read her doubts off the datapad. "Besides, you have that new job now."
Which she earned less money at then her previous one.
It was fine though.
She'd figure out a way to make ends meet.
"Now if you'll excuse me," Eric tipped an imaginary hat to her. "Joe's waiting to play Hologames with me."
And he left to play his games.
Saria adjusted the ring on her finger as a frown toyed at her lips. It was truly gorgeous, yet she felt a twinge of regret in her heart.
It was fine though.
Everything was fine.
Saria fell asleep that night with Eric's arm wrapped around her waist, and the ring on her finger. Her dreams were filled with shadows and chains with knives weighing them down.
"Hi Saria! I'm so sorry I didn't comm you this morning, I woke up late and had to rush to work since we have the early shift and-" Saria cut her off with a wave, and Te'tai sighed in relief. "Thanks for understanding Saria."
"No problem," Saria smiled. "Can I have some drinks for the table to the left please?"
"Coming right up," Te'tai nodded and started mixing their orders. "So Saria, tell me about that boyfriend of yours."
"His name is Eric. He likes blue milk and he likes it when I stroke his hair," Saria described.
"Aww that last one is adorable," Te'tai commented. "What does he do for a living?"
"He doesn't have a job," Saria informed Te'tai.
"Oops my mistake," Te'tai covered her mouth. "It must be nice having a hot meal to come home to every night then?"
"I do the cooking," Saria's response made Te'tai frown.
"Then what does he do all day?" Te'tai asked, handing a different waiter the tray of drinks she had been preparing.
"Play hologames? That's all he told me and I didn't really ask more," Saria shrugged.
"So you bring in all the money and do the cooking? Does he clean at least?" Te'tai cleaned a couple glasses as she talked.
"No."
"Saria hun, I think he's using you," Te'tai said with a serious expression resting on her face.
"No. He loves me! He just isn't good at housekeeping or anything like that," Saria put a couple of drinks on her tray and stepped out onto the floor to hand them out.
When her serving tray was empty, she went back to Te'tai for a refill.
"I'm just saying that you're doing everything while he sits around all day," Te'tai pointed out when Saria was back.
Saria frowned and shook her head. "That can't be true."
She reached for a cleaning cloth to help scrub the counter down, and Te'tai saw the engagement ring twinkling in the strobing lights of the club.
"What in the name of the force is that?" Te'tai covered her eyes dramatically. "I can barely see with that huge thing flashing in my eyes!"
Saria smiled shyly and moved to hide it behind her back, but Te'tai grabbed her hand to examine it further.
"Saria! Where did this come from! I didn't see it on you yesterday!" Te'tai's smiled coyly as she leaned forward and playfully whispered, "you didn't tell me that Eric was your side piece! Who are you married to?"
Saria swatted at Te'tai's arm and her shoulder's shook with silent laughter. "No! Eric proposed last night!"
Te'tai's smile froze. "What?"
"Yeah he even picked up dinner," Saria didn't notice Te'tai's concern and stared off into the distance. "It was really nice."
"I'm sure it was," Te'tai tossed one of her lekku over her shoulder. "Anyway, you wanna go out with me tonight? I have some great tickets for a dance downtown. Hunter's coming with me and I had an extra ticket."
"I would love to!" Saria agreed.
"Great! Now here's the drinks for that booth," Te'tai handed her more glasses of over spilling alcohol. "And don't forget to dress up!"
Saria was dressed in a black dress she had found in the back of her closet and waited patiently for Te'tai and Hunter to come pick her up.
"Hey Saria!" Te'tai waved as they walked near her. "Ready to go?"
Saria nodded and wondered what Tech was doing here.
"Where's your boyfriend?" Hunter asked as Saria carefully walked down the steps in the heels she was already regretting wearing.
"Inside," Saria simply said.
"He's her fiancé now," Te'tai elbowed Hunter's waist with a wink.
"Oh really?" Hunter asked.
"Yes. He proposed last night," Saria smiled happily. "What's Tech doing here?"
"Didn't I tell you?" Te'tai feigned innocence. "I forgot that I had four tickets, and since he was the first one I saw when I got there, I asked if he wanted to come along."
"Indeed," Tech nodded. "I've never seen a live performance before that didn't end up in a blaster fight, and I wanted to experience that for the first time. I just hope this one doesn't end the same way."
"Yes, let's hope not," Saria agreed.
"Let's go! Those strippers won't watch themselves!" Te'tai started walking.
Saria paled. "What?"
"I'm with her," Tech pointed at Saria. "What?"
"Oh did I forget another detail?" Te'tai grinned cheekily. "We're going to a stripper bar."
Saria tripped and Tech caught her, helping her back onto her feet. Hunter chuckled and Te'tai winked at Saria.
Saria started to regret coming along.
"Here we are," Te'tai held the door open for them. "Enjoy the show."
There were tables scattering the room, with four chairs for each. A stage was in the middle of the room, with light illuminating it.
"Great! The show hasn't started yet!" Te'tai cheered.
"How about a table over there?" Hunter suggested, pointing at one near the stage.
"Isn't that a bit close?" Tech questioned. "I don't want to get too close to the naked people. What if they fall off the stage? Then genitalia will end up in my face."
Saria buried her face in her hands and started laughing quietly.
The lights dimmed and everyone in the crowd fell silent.
Ballerinas filed onto the stage, their graceful movements impressing Saria.
"So these are not strippers?" Tech whispered. "Or are they going to whip off their tutus and reveal their costumes?"
"No Tech," Hunter sighed. "We were just messing with you."
Saria watched in awe as the dancers began their routine. Tech glanced at her and spoke quietly to her.
"You enjoy ballet?" He asked her.
"I've never seen it," Saria replied. "I bought tickets one time for myself, but then Eric got sick and I had to take care of him. My mother always told me how great it was though. She was a ballerina."
"You missed a ballet to take care of him?" Tech looked at her in surprise.
"He needed me to make him soup and such. And when I got sick the next morning, I couldn't make it to that showing either," Saria sadly sighed.
"That is unfortunate," Tech turned his attention back to the performance.
"At least I get to see it now," Saria smiled at the dancers.
"I'm glad I could as well," Tech said.
Te'tai watched the two of them out of the corner of her eye, entwining her hand with Hunter's.
They're engaged! What do people think of that?
