"I have to find warmth. Gotta find warmth." Sophie flew through the snow-covered grounds, passing all types of trees on her way. Now you may be asking. Why doesn't she just hibernate in one of those trees? They are bound to have a hole to hide in. " Well she would if she didn't have one thing to worry about.
"Clara! Come on! I know we can make it. We honestly have to." The ice blue-winged borrower turned her head trying to keep the young one her sight. She knew she was running out of time for the both of them. Trailing behind her at what seemed like the slowest pace ever was a young borrower who looked similar to herself. The only difference was the girl was only ten years old compared to her eighteen years and she had bright red wings. Ones that imitated a bright flame. Sophie knew both only had a limited time before their wings started to freeze. She could see from the way Clara was flying in a zigzag motion, her skin was becoming an off-color, and how tired she appeared that she defiantly did not have long.
This whole situation was her fault. If she only planned for the unexpected. All these years both lived in the forest all alone. Both were abandoned by their parents at a young age. When Sophie was eleven and Clara only three their parents meet the devastating effects of humankind. Taken, experimented on, and killed. At least Sophie assumed. They were taken by a human and never seen again, and when they were taken the humans were awfully curious. Just like any mighty beast who had the mentality of whatever I can get my hands on is mine. Since that awful day her younger sister basically became her daughter. Always providing, always protecting, well, that is until this day. The winged borrower never predicted a snowstorm to come out of nowhere driving them out of house and home. No food, and now about to freeze to death from the negative temperature.
Sophie paused in the air, just hovering. She noticed the young borrower was becoming even slower than she already was. A strick of fear crossed her face when she saw Clara start to slowly flap her wings, but she was losing altitude. " Clara!" She flew at high-speed just trying to capture the girl before she tumbled to the ground and permanently damage or shatter her wings or even worse a body part.
Sophie flew under her, catching her in her arms. She flew to the ground softly placing her on the snow. She had to find help. In a form of warmth or even better a person. " I'll be right back. I promise."
As she flew off trying to find anything to help, she worried. Her sister's wings were not as camouflaged as hers. The ten-year-old would be spotted immediately with her red wings against the snow-white ground...but she had no choice. " I'll make this quick. Just stay awake please."

Sophie flew back in complete disappointment and worry. She couldn't find anything. No house, no cover, not even a cave. What was she to do? Nothing. That's all she could do. She could just pray when she came back to her sister she was still alive and hope both of them remained this way until light.
She flew past the familiar trees, forcing her wings to flap. She knew if she quit now her sister had no chance at all. Not even the slightest. That's when the sight from her nightmares appeared before her. She had to look a few times just to make sure and verify she was correct.
"No.No. No. No! That's where I left her. This can't be."
In the spot she left her sister there was no longer a winged borrower, but a hulking creature.
Sophie flew behind a tree, to make sure she was not seen trying to take in the situation. To make sure this wasn't a dream. Crouching in the same spot she left her sister was a human. Well not even human. He couldn't be human. He wore a grey sweatshirt with black pants. They were ripped up to the extent it looked like he was recently in a fight. At a closer glance the creature had pointed ears with a greenish tint of hair. This creature was crouching in the snow, holding something. Sophie knew what he was holding, but she couldn't allow herself to think of that right now.
She watched as the creature placed something in his sweatshirt and stand up.
"No. Please no." Sophie no longer saw her sister on the ground. There was only one possibility.
She knew she would regret this as soon as it happened, but she had to. Sophie flew out and directly into the figures face. She froze where she was while slowly flapping her wings. This definitely wasn't a human. The person had a large and fresh gash across his neck like someone took a knife and slit his throat...but he was still standing. His eyes were glowing a bit black but suddenly dilated to a normal human blue color. Maybe they only turned black when he was surprised? She didn't know and didn't want to know. The " human" seemed as surprised by her presence as she was to him.
"Let her go!"
The creature shook his hands in front of him. " It's not what it looks like. Trust me."
" Let her go!" She flew a few times at the creature before she suddenly watched him glitch out of existence then reappear a few feet away.
"It's not what it looks like. Just calm down before I have to do something."
She, of course, didn't listen. She flew towards the creature looking for her younger sister. She suddenly felt her body get heavy. Great her wings were giving up on her now...wait. This was her body. Her body seemed to shut down like she was put to sleep. She even felt her eyes close accepting blackness.

Sophie woke up with a startle. She looked around the room trying to see where exactly she was. All she knew was she wasn't dead, and she was warm. She peered around the room, just trying to find out where exactly she was and with who.
" Dark. I am warning you. Get out. Now."The winged borrower heard a sudden voice with a gruff from across the room. Right. The " human" but why wasn't she dead? Where was her sister?
"Do not touch! Get out before we do something we both regret." she actually heard a growl from across the room, like from a dog that was about to attack. She couldn't help but fly behind the pillow. She knew whoever it was he knew she was in the room, but that voice and the intensity of it didn't sound that pleasant. She looked around the room till her eyes caught the deformed human from before sitting cross-legged in a huge broken-down recliner chair. The legs were crossed and upon the cushion instead of on the ground. His eyes were glowing a dark black once more, but he wasn't looking at her. Across the room she noticed a gentleman looking fellow who was wearing a tux, for some reason. His voice was a lot more smooth, but she could tell from the 3-D effects around his body he wasn't human either. The green-haired guy was glaring down the guy just daring him to cross the line into his room.
"Come now. Just turn the borrower over to Shneeplesteen. Find out information about them. Then you may have your plaything back. It's as simple as that my dear friend."
Sophie heard a growl once more from the now glitching demon. She cowered behind the pillow once more trying to hide herself while the interaction was playing out. She couldn't resist though and peeked out one more time. When she did, she noticed two knives appear out of thin air and being propelled across the room. They nearly missed the tuxedo guys head then stuck in the wall. " Get out. You know I have better aim than that."
The Dark guy just rolled his eyes, leaving the two alone. She watched as the glitch demon's eyes stop glowing the black and the knives disappeared like they were hallucinations. The glitch looked down at something in his lap. She slowly came out noticing a blanket was in his lap as he sat there. He had something in his lap, and he was prodding it. At least that's what it looked like. " Hey little one. You'll be alright."
As soon as she heard those words, she flew directly out and straight towards the demon. " Back off now!" She hovered in place, getting so close she was in grabbing distance but not directly in his face. She watched as a confused face became evident as his arm was suddenly placed in his lap. " Let her go Demon!"
She watched as he relaxed and left his hand in his lap. " So you come to join us now?"
"Release her. Now!" Sophie had no idea what she was doing at this point. She really didn't think this through. She was in a demon's face with nothing to protect her. She watched as he started to pet the object in his lap and just smile. It wasn't a pleasant smile, but it wasn't maniacal. It was more of a smile someone had when they knew something the other didn't.
"So the protector comes to join us? It's a relief you are alright too. I honestly thought I overdid it there for a time. It's been a few hours since you have been awake."
Sophie was stunned. Was he really just going to act like nothing was wrong? " So what do you want? To sell us. To experiment on us? Torture us?"
The demon continued to move his hand but was thinking for a time. " Well money doesn't really appeal to me. That would be more Dark. Experiment? I'm not that smart to even know what I'm looking for...but to be honest torture does sound like me...but no. I'm good right now."
Sophie flew a bit closer at his statement. This was a curious human? No Demon. She looked down finally realizing what was in his lap. She had a feeling, but actually seeing his actions were even more confusing. The demon certainly had her sister in his lap, but he was...petting her? She flew to the armrest, landing in perfect vicinity to his body. He was taking a finger and dragging it across her sister's back like he was petting a cat, but gentler. Sophie walked closer to her sister's body, and into his lap. She momentarily touched her skin realizing Clara was warm. She then stirred at Sophie's touch.
"She was frozen cold when I found her. I brought both of you back here to warm up." the demon simply said looking down at the ten-year-old. He then very gently brushed her red hair out of her face as her sister fell back asleep peacefully. Sophie could even hear a sigh of content. Both of them seemed unharmed, and he was cradling Clara like she was his own.
" Um thanks Demon. Doesn't mean I trust you, though."
The demon shrugged. "Anti and Fine by me."
