2 | tadashi to the rescue |
Hello again! I hope you enjoy this next chapter.
Also, quick TW: anxious thoughts, and description of anxiety. Also strict parents.
I know that sometimes reading stuff like that can be triggering for some people, so feel free to skip those parts when you need to. But also, be aware that being anxious + anxiety is also something discussed in this book too. Albeit it won't be explicitly, bit still.
It's better to be safe and tell you guys this now rather than later.
Anyways, again - I hope you enjoy this next chapter!

Next thing you both knew, you and Hiro were shoved into a wall of one of the buildings in the alley.
"No one hustles Yama!", Yama yelled in Hiro's face, snatching Mega-bot from out of his hands. Both of you cringed at the yelling - Hiro even more so because of how scarily near Yama was to him.
"Woah, hey-", Hiro began, reaching for Mega-bot as Yama walked away toward his goons. You reached out for it as well.
"Um - Mr. Yama, sir?", You started off politely. It was instinctual at this point, really. Adults like him were scary. Hopefully being polite would help in this situation a little bit, right? Lord you hoped so. "We'll leave you alone, I swear, but could you please give the bot ba--"
"Teach them a lesson.", Yama ordered, not listening to you at all. Great.
His men growled, and turned towards you two. A couple of them punched their fists into an open hand as they stalked closer. It was as if they were gearing up to beat someone up.
And that 'someone', or rather some people, just happened to be you and Hiro. Maybe you shouldn't have forgotten your keys that day. You had one of those tiny knife things that would definitely be useful in this situation.
You stepped back slowly, your nervous smile slowly retreating into a look of fear. Hiro instinctively stepped in front of you, still holding his own nervous grin.
"Hey fellas!", he started off, moving backwards like you were. "Let's talk about this!"
You bumped against the wall of the building you were both slammed into before, and a strong sense of dread washed over you. You guys were completely cornered. If you ran one way or the other, these guys would catch you both either way.
Just as one of the men in the middle was cracking his knuckles, the blaring sound of a revving engine came into the fray. A light from off to the side of the alley blinded the three men, along with you and Hiro. It wasn't just any light, however. It came from a motor bike.
The motor bike swerved in front of you both, almost knocking Yama's men down while both you and Hiro flinched back into the wall. The men weren't hit by the motor bike, but they tripped over themselves from trying to step back. The motor bike had caught them off guard.
Who was riding the familiar motor bike, though?
A wave of relief crashed over you when you saw who it was.
"Hiro, Y/n, get on!", Tadashi urged. Hiro's face broke into a big smile, and so did yours.
"Tadashi!", the both of you exclaimed, rushing towards the motor bike. You hopped onto the bike before Hiro, and Hiro dashed on right behind you. Normally it was you behind him, but right now you payed no mind to it.
"Oh, good timing!", Hiro said in relief, before Tadashi put his helmet on his head. Tadashi, who forgot to bring your helmet in the rush of getting to the alley, unclipped his and put it on you. You wasted no time on clipping it shut. It was just in time too.
Tadashi turned the handles of the motor bike and sped off down the alley, leaving Yama with Mega-bot.
Yama laughed triumphantly at this win, finally having Mega-bot all to himself. He looked down at the bot's yellow face, which somehow turned red again. Oh no.
"Oh mama--", was all Yama could say before Mega-bot lunged at his face. Yama screamed in surprise, and fell over. There were so many unexpected things that night.
•••
Mega-bot skid on the ground, following the three of you. Through the control of Hiro's upgraded controller, it hopped right into Hiro's hands. Knowing his own reckless self, Hiro handed Mega-bot right to you.
You were one of the three people he actually trusted with his tech, after all. The other two were Tadashi and his aunt. Mainly it was you and Tadashi, though.
You put Mega-bot into a secure place on the motor bike, and hung onto Tadashi's shoulders. Hiro hung onto your shoulders as well, making sure to look behind the three of you while the motor bike sped through the alley.
Tadashi took a particularly sharp left turn somewhere between the buildings, and you turned back to look at Hiro. Although the wobbly helmet was mostly in the way, you could tell he had an excited smile on his face. How could he smile during a chase like this!? Huh, must be the adrenaline rush.
"Are you guys ok?", Tadashi asked the both of you.
"Yeah!", Hiro answered with a nod at Tadashi before looking back again.
"I have no idea at this point-", You answered truthfully.
"Are you hurt?"
"No." The two of you answered.
"Then what were you two thinking?!", Tadashi scolded, moving one of his hands off the motor bike's handles and blindly smacking behind him. You leaned off to the side to avoid the hits, which resulted Hiro into being the one that was hit. Well, you got hit a couple of times too, but still it was mostly Hiro. Tadashi elbowed the both of you one more time before looking fully at what's in front of him. "Knuckleheads!"
There was a dead end up ahead. A large garbage bin, boxes, and a gate blocked the way. Tadashi swiftly turned the motor bike around, and sped off in the direction you all came from.
"You graduated highschool when you were thirteen and THIS is what you're doing?", Tadashi rhetorically asked in exasperation, trying to keep his eyes on the two of you and the road. "And Y/n, you should've been at home with your homework!"
"She wanted a break, so I brought her here with me.", Hiro said proudly, before you could even answer Tadashi.
"This wasn't my idea of a break, Hiro!"
"Oh really? What was your idea of a break? A visit to the comic book store?"
"Yes!", You turned and shot Hiro a glare. He had a michevious smile on his face, and you scoffed and rolled your eyes. Comic books are amazing! Hiro just didn't understand.
"Guys--", Tadashi started off in a scolding tone.
The scolding was interrupted by shouts in the distance. You and Hiro noticed who it was first. Then it was Tadashi's turn to notice. He let out a small gasp, seeing who it was. Yama and his men.
Yama and his men noticed you three, and began to run in your guy's direction. Tadashi looked off to the side, seeing a piece of wood propped up against another pile of wood. The perfect ramp.
"Hold on!", Tadashi told you both. He lurched the motor-bike off to the side, and within a flash, it was on the ramp.
While you closed your eyes and clung to Tadashi's shoulders for dear life, Hiro was ecstatic.
"WHOO-HOO!" Hiro exclaimed, looking at the reflection of you all in one of the building's windows. "YES!"
The motor bike flew up and over Yama and his men, landing right behind them. It left them stunned for half a second, but Tadashi didn't wait at all. He kept the motor bike speeding down the alley way.
"Bot fighting is illegal! You're gonna get yourselves arrested!" Tadashi continued from earlier, as if nothing happened. Hiro rolled his eyes, his smile still staying on his face.
"Bot fighting is not illegal", Hiro began to explain. "Betting on bot fighting, that's - that's illegal--"
"Which is what you did, dumbas--" You mumbled under your breath, before getting elbowed by Tadashi (why couldn't you curse? It's not like you guys were in a Disney movie). Hiro interrupted you immediately afterwards.
"But so lucrative!", he continued, while grabbing the money he won from out of his pocket. "I'm on a roll, big brother. And there is no stopping me!"
Just as he said that, Tadashi skidded the motor bike to a stop. The three of you all lurched forward once it did stop, with Hiro's arm holding the money stretched out over your's and Tadashi's shoulder.
The three of you looked up, and immediately there was a large sense of dread that blanketed you three.
"Oh no.", Tadashi quietly said at the sight of what was in front of you.
Just right then, two more cop cars pulled up besides one that was already parked. They must've been waiting for you all.
This'll be fine, right? They're here for Yama and his other thugs, right? Not us? Anything but us, please--
•••
The rest of what just happened was all a blur. Handcuffs were on your wrists in seconds time. Being whisked away to one of the Precinct's buildings felt like a minute.
And so now here you were, sitting next to your best friend just as the doors closed to your cell. Mind racing, heart pumping, and hands fiddling out of nerves. Hiro, also a big ball of nerves at the moment, waved at Tadashi with an awkward chuckle.
You and Hiro were seperate from the others and Tadashi. Being two fourteen-year-olds, you were minors and had to be but into a different cell. Tadashi, however was not. He was shoved into a tight cell with all the other adults who were at that bot fighting ring - which included Yama and his henchmen.
Tadashi looked back at Hiro with a glare. He wasn't enjoying this one bit. Looking at him, you were kind of intimidated. It's not the first time you've seen Tadashi angry, of course, but you've normally only seen him disappointed. Angry was rare.
Angry was scary.
Speaking of which, that brought you back to your parents. Oh no.
Oh n o.
What will they even think of this?! You'll be yelled at for sure. Maybe they'll question you about why you weren't doing your homework. How much did you get done. You were supposed to be doing it. Why weren't you doing it?
Maybe they'll threaten something afterwards. After the whole lecture of doing your homework. They'll tell you that they expected better of you and that if you do this again, they'll bring you back home. You don't want to go back home. There was a reason why you were staying with Hiro and Tadashi.
Maybe they'll threaten to take one of the many things that gets you through the day. Like your phone. Which you need, of course, especially in a large city like San Fransokyo.
They'll ask for your grades. And tell you that it's utter bullcrap that your grades are low and that you should know better, especially because you apparently 'knew what you were getting yourself into' when it came down to the college classes you were simultaneously taking with highschool classes.
They'll probably blame it all on you - the botfights, the homework you left behind, making sure Hiro stayed out of trouble. They'll definitely--
Your thoughts were interrupted by a tap on your shoulder. You jolted away at the sudden tap out of no where with a tiny gasp, and you looked over to who tapped you. Hiro.
"Are you ok?", he asked in a softer tone. Probably so you guys won't catch any of the attention of the others in the other jail cell. But in reality, he saw how panicked you were.
You gave him an unsure shrug, and continued to fiddle with your hands. Tapping your knees, pulling at your sleeves, and whatever else you could mess with.
He raised his eyebrow with a worried look accompanied with it. It was obvious that you weren't ok, but he wasn't one to pry. Besides, he was nervous too. Not just for you, but of one other person in particular.
Aunt Cass.
•••
The person in question, Aunt Cass, paced around in front of the police building. She anxiously bit at her nails, waiting for the three of you to come out. That or at least some new update on the situation.
Behind her, one of the officers opened up the door, letting you, Hiro and Tadashi go.
"Hi, Aunt Cass.", the three of you greeted tentatively. She turned around, and immediately rushed to the three of you.
"Are you guys ok?", Aunt Cass asked in a worried tone. She hugged you first, and went on to hug her nephews. "Tell me you're ok."
"We're fine", Hiro answered.
"For the most part", you added truthfully.
"We're ok.", Tadashi reassured.
Aunt Cass sighed in relief, placing a hand on each of her nephew's cheeks. "Oh good."
That calm didn't last a second.
"Then what were you three knuckleheads thinking?!"
Their aunt pulled at their ears, going towards her truck as she did so, with them both exclaiming in pain. You winced in sympathy, following them while covering your own ears. Just in case.
•••
Inside the truck it was completely silent. You were squished in between Hiro and Aunt Cass; Hiro was still rubbing his hurt ear along with Tadashi, while Cass held a frustrated look on her face. You were still fiddling with your hands. It was a nervous habit you picked up just when you about to move in with them.
"For ten years, I have done the best I could to raise you.", Aunt Cass ranted, mainly at Hiro and Tadashi. "And for the past five - almost six years - I've done the best I could to help your parents with you, Y/n."
She parked the truck near The Lucky Cat Café, and hopped out of it. After you followed her out on her side, with the other two going out the other way, she slammed the door shut.
"Have I been perfect!? No! Do I know anything about children!? No!", Cass continued to rant. She got out her keys, and went to unlock the door to the café. "Should I have picked up a book about parenting?! Probably!"
Aunt Cass paused for a second.
"Where was I going with this? I had a point.", she asked rhetorically.
After another second, you and Tadashi apologized, with a genuine tone in your voices. "Sorry.."
"We love you, Aunt Cass.", Hiro said to her, keeping a nervous smile on his face.
"Well, I love you, too!", Aunt Cass shot back suddenly, which inadvertently caused the three of you to back up. She turned, and agressively pushed the door to the café open. The bell on the door dinged. You Hiro and Tadashi followed on suite.
Cass was where all the donuts were displayed once the three of you were all inside. Grabbing one, she continued the scolding.
"I had to close up early because if you three felons," She turned back to the three of you. "On beat peotry night."
Oh crap, you forgot that was tonight. Today just keeps getting better, huh?
Aunt Cass took a bite out of the donut, before shaking it in front of you guys.
"Stress eating - because of you. Come on, Mochi.", she finished, motioning towards the calico cat. Mochi meowed, before following Cass where you guys lived. Above the Cafe. "This is - really good!"
The moment she was out of sight, Tadashi glared at Hiro and you. Before you could react to it, a phone rang from upstairs.
Jumping at the noise, you looked at the stairs with a gulp.
"Oh no", you murmured. Hiro and Tadashi looked up at the ceiling, where the noise came from, and looked back at you. Whatever frustration that they both held at eachother melted away for that second. They knew why you were nervous the whole ride home.
Please don't be them. Please don't be them. Please don't be them. Please don't be the--
"Y/n, sweetie, it's for you!", came Aunt Cass's muffled voice from upstairs. You groaned in disappointment, deflating at those words.
"Be there in a minute!", you exclaimed, walking towards the stairs. You looked back at the boys nervously. "Um - wish me luck, I guess..?"
"It'll be fine, Y/n. It's just your parents.", Tadashi calmly told you, a comforting smile on his face. "They're all the way across town doing business with other people, so it'll be a quick phone call. You got this."
"I hope you're right...", you said, beginning to walk up the stairs.
"Hey, Y/n?" Hiro started, going towards the stairs as well. "If you need to rant about it afterwards, I'm all ears. I hope the call goes well."
You turned back and looked at your best friends, halfway up the stairs. They both held genuine smiles on their faces, which let your worries melt away a bit. Smiling back at them, you finished your ascent up the stairs.
After a few more seconds of walking and trying to calm your nerves, you arrived at the phone. Taking a deep breath, you apprehensively picked up the phone.
"...Hello?"
"Y/n M/n L/n. You're in huge trouble young lady."
