Writer's Block: The Writer's Nemesis
What can't I move forward with my story? How can I keep moving on?
The most often cause of writer's block is when the writer creates too many subplots and scenarios that block the story from moving forward.
There is a simple answer to solve this: PLAN! PLAN! PLAN!
A plan need not be followed to a T. Often, during the course of writing you find other ways to present the story in a better way. Planning is merely a tool to ensure that you will have a finished story.
When starting a story, plan a simple plot:
A. Basic Idea – this is your original idea you wanted to explore.
B. Events – a few scenarios that would let the reader experience your world through the situations that the characters are put through. You may write a more thorough concept once you are in the actual writing. This is the fun part where you actually create scenes for your protagonist to move forward towards the goal. This is the part where you let the reader's start to root for your protagonist. Unfortunately, this is also where a lot of writers get stuck by making too many scenes. Learn to write only scenes that matter.
C. Climax – this is the most crucial part of the story when your character finally makes a decision that would determine the fulfillment of his/her goal.
D. END – gosh, finally you did it! Hurray! But wait, there's more. You don't need to have only one ending. Most effective writers try to find a way to make an ending in an unexpected way.
