Yes, you read that right. FWFC Book Club is officially turning one year old this March! We can hardly believe it ourselves — it feels like it was only yesterday when a bunch of us forum-chatters came together over a vague idea of starting a book club. But 12 months, 4 cycles, 26 reviewed works and countless FB group activities later, we're delighted to announce that the club has survived, and in fact thrived, in its first year of infancy. And we owe it all to you, our followers and fellow club members. Maraming salamat po. :)

So to celebrate this milestone, we are launching a contest that's bigger than anything we've done before. We are inviting all Filipino Wattpad users who follow FWFC to take part in our special first anniversary contest. And of course, special prizes await the deserving winners!

Since one of the goals of the club is to promote Filipino culture through fantasy and literature, participants must submit a one-shot story with the following prompts:

· the story should be a continuation (not retelling) of a Philippine folktale

· it must contain at least one mythical creature from Philippine mythology

The catch is you can only choose from this list of folktales and creatures:

We'd like to see how you can put your own unique spin on these folk tales while incorporating a mythical creature —a crossover of sorts.

The story must have a word count between 2,000 and 2,500 words excluding the title. It must be written in English or Tagalog. Text lingo and emoticons are not allowed.

The overall content of the story must be original and not plagiarized from other works. It should not contain profanity or mature content, or anything that will illicit such thoughts.

All entries must be submitted as a Word file to [email protected] on or before February 28, 2017 at 11:59 PM.

The participant must also notify the contest coordinator by commenting the hashtag #FWFCanniversary on this page. The contest coordinator will confirm the receipt of your entry by replying to your comment.

Only one entry per participant is allowed.

Entries will be posted in FWFC's Contest Book the day after the deadline. The authors of the entries will remain anonymous. Members of the club and other readers are encouraged to give constructive criticism on the entries.

OWNERSHIP OF ENTRIES

You will still own your entry even after submission. However, you must refrain from posting it on your Wattpad account or any website from February 01 to March 22, 2017. This is to prevent any bias in judging. Only the contest coordinator knows which work belongs to which contestant.

Entries will be evaluated according to the following criteria:

20% Structure, Plot and Pacing
20% Adherence to Prompts
15% Characters and Dialogue
15% Writing Style and Tone
15% Concept
15% Overall Presentation (grammar and spelling)

The names of the judges will be revealed on the deadline, February 28, so stay tuned.

The person with the highest average score will be declared the winner and he/she will receive the following:

· exclusive FWFC T-shirt

· local fantasy book of the winner's choice (worth 500 pesos or below)

· load worth 300 pesos

· a certificate

· a shout out on FWFC's Wattpad and Facebook pages

· bragging rights

(The winner will be asked to provide his/her mailing address. If you are living outside the Philippines, you need to provide a local mailing address in the event that you win.)

Two runners-up will each receive the following:

· load worth 100 pesos

· certificate

· a shout out on FWFC's Wattpad and Facebook pages

In the event of a tie, the FWFC Admins will vote on a winner. Winners will be announced on March 23.

· February 1, 2017 – start of contest period

· February 28 – deadline of submission of entries

· March 1-22 – judging period

· March 23 – announcement of winners
