Draco's Muggle-born Friend
Cordelia Stark is the only daughter of Anastasia Stark and her late husband Warren Stark. She is an older brother called Micheal. A pale barn owl called ghost. She is a muggle-born witch friends with Draco Malfoy. Shocking I know, but perhaps you'll understand if you hear her story from the beginning. She learns about being a witch at a young age from Draco Malfoy. Then starts attending the same year as him.
(1985 June 22nd) Cora's POV
I just lost my dad two days ago. He'd been away for my birthday and on his way home to surprise me. When he was in a horrible accident. Today we had his funeral and I couldn't take it. I ran to a meadow and sit crying in the middle of it. "I knew" a voice says and I look up to see a blonde haired boy my age. "You're a witch" he states.
"What a horrible thing to say!" I snap glaring at him wiping my eyes. First my dad dies, now a boy I've never meet is calling me a witch. I get to my feet and go to stalk off.
"I'm not being rude!" he shouts rushing over. "It's true" he states grabbing my hand.
"Let go!" I cry.
"Look up" he tells me and I frown. He nods up and I do so to see storm clouds above us. "You're very powerful, so am I. I'm a wizard and you're a witch" he states. While I frown in confusion. The sky starts to clear. "I've been watching you from a far" he tells me excitedly.
"Who are you?" I ask confused.
"Draco, Draco Malfoy. My family live in the mansion" he says pointing to it.
"I'm Cora" I tell him and he smiles.
"Cora!" a voice shouts and I turn to see my big brother Micheal. "Let go of my sister!" he snaps at Draco. Who does so and Micheal grabs my hand. "You have mum worried sick, lets go home" he tells me.
"Ok" I say. "Will I see you again?" I ask Draco.
"Of course, we're the same" he says with a smile.
"Cora now" Micheal says and leads me away. I wave goodbye to Draco. He does the same before leaving. "You need to stay away from that boy" he tells me.
"Why?" I ask confused.
"He's family is filthy rich and very arrogant, they've tried buying our land for years. No good will come of being associated with them" he states.
"Oh" I say sadly.
"I only say this to protect you Cora" he tells me. Mum spots us and hugs me tight. We then go home together.
(1991 July 24th)
"But when Draco?" I ask whining. We've known each other for 6 years and have become good friends. Against my brother's wishes. Draco and I would meet in secret at the meadow. He'd tell me about the magic world and the creatures from it.
"Soon" he assures me.
"How come we're not in trouble for doing magic now?" I ask him curious. We were taking turns making flowers float around us.
"It doesn't count until you receive your wand and start at a wizarding school. But then you're not allowed to use magic until you're seventeen. Unless your life is in danger" he states matter of factly. "I'm glad we're going to the same school" he adds.
"But we don't know that yet" I remind him. "We haven't got our letters yet" I state.
"Yet, but Hogwarts accepts students from Ireland, Scotland and the UK. Though dad wanted to send me to Durmstang" he states.
"That's another magic school?" I ask and he nods his head. "So we won't go to Azkaban?" I ask.
"Of course not" he says with a laugh. "Only true criminals go there" he states. "Anyway I should get back before I'm missed, if I don't see you before. See you at school" he tells me.
"I hope we're in the same house" I tell him.
"Same" he says and left. I got home to see mum talking a stern looking woman in our living room. Micheal wasn't in, he was out tending to the horses and paddock.
"Ah there you are dear, Cora this is Professor McGonagall and she has something for you" mum tells me. My eyes widen, that's the name of the Deputy Head Mistress of Hogwarts, according to Draco. I look at the stern woman and she matches Draco's description of her. She holds a letter out to me and I accept it.
"Thank you" I say and open it. I squeal when I read it. It was all true, everything Draco has told me. Magic is real and I am a witch. "Can I please go mum? Please?" I plead handing her the first piece of parchment.
"Professor McGonagall was just explaining thing to me and it makes sense. I'm strange tings have happened around you when you're upset. I mean it rained the day we got the news" she states and I frown sadly. It did rain the day we found out about dad's passing. "Of course you can go" she adds.
"Yes!" I cheer and she smiles with McGonagall.
"I shall be back in a week to take you to Diagon Alley to get your school supplies" McGonagall tells me. "As well as explain how to get onto the platform, for now I leave you so that this information can sink in" she states. She disappears with a pop.
"How do you feel about this Cora?" mum asks me.
"I'm so excited, my friend has told me all about Hogwarts" I tell him.
"Friend?" she asks.
"A boy, he realized I was a witch and has been telling me about the magic world" I tell her.
"Well why don't you tell me what you know" she suggests. I do so. "Well looks like you won't be bored at the school" she states.
"Do you think Micheal will be upset? With me going so far away?" I ask her.
"I'm sure he'll get used to it and we'll get an owl. So that we can stay in contact" she assures me. "We'll tell him tonight over dinner" she adds. "I'm glad you'll have a friend at school, I'll worry less" she tells me.
"I'll be ok mum" I assure her. "Need help with dinner?" I ask her.
"No, why don't you go feed the dogs and cat" she suggests. I nod and did so. I then sit in dad's old arm chair by the unlit fire. Thinking about the year ahead, a year full of magic and new experiences.
