33 - Family
Adora's POV
I reached the end of the pathway of petals. Catra was standing there in a suit, a blush on her cheeks.
"H-hey, Adora," she stuttered, a hand on the back of her neck.
"Catra, what's all this about?" I asked, walking up to her.
She stared at the ground for a few moments. She took a breath, then looked up at me.
"I love you," she said simply. "You know I always have. And now... I know that there's nothing I want more in all of Etheria than to spend the rest of my life by your side."
I started to tear up. "Really?"
Her eyes also became glossy. "Yeah."
Something inside of my brain clicked, and I suddenly knew what I wanted. I took Catra's hands in mine, and pulled her closer to me.
"Catra, will you marry me?" I whispered.
"Oh, come on!" she groaned. "I was gonna ask you, dummy!"
"Is that a yes, then?" I giggled.
"You're such an idiot," she muttered with a shake of her head, then pulled me in for a kiss.
"Yess!" Glimmer shouted, teleporting to my left. "And the wedding plans begin!"
"Where did you come from?" I asked, just as Bow fell out of a tree.
"Ow," he groaned. Glimmer rushed to go help him up.
"Yeah, Sparkles, why were you guys hiding up there?"
"What? I wanted to see the romance unfold."
"It seemed like a good idea at the time," Bow grumbled, rubbing his arm.
"Did someone say Swift Wind?"
"Gah!!" Catra shrieked as Swifty burst out of a bush. "When did you get here?"
I laughed at Catra's spiky tail. I pulled her back in for another kiss.
"I can't wait to start our life together," I whispered.
She raised an eyebrow. "Don't we already have a life together?"
"It's just an expression, silly kitty."
She made a face. "Call me that again and you'll regret it."
"What, silly kitty?" I smirked.
She tackled me to the ground. I giggled and pushed her off me with my feet, but she grabbed my arm and pulled me on top of her.
"Adora!!" Glimmer yelled. "Stop rolling around in the dirt so we can get to your engagement party!"
"Engagement party?" I repeated, glancing at Catra. She looked just as confused as I was.
"We may have planned a little celebration for you guys," Bow admitted, then rolled his eyes as he looked at Glimmer. "It was supposed to be a surprise."
"What?" she defended. "It was hard enough keeping the proposal a secret, not to mention the mural."
"Wait, that was you guys?" I asked.
"Mainly Catra," Bow said. "She directed the whole thing, we just painted a few sections."
"Is that why you kept avoiding me?" I asked Catra. "So you could work on that for me?"
"No," she said sarcastically, a smile tugging on her lips. "It's cuz I hate you, Adora."
I couldn't help but kiss her again.
"Yeesh, you guys are bad at listening," Glimmer facepalmed. She then linked arms with Bow, who was holding onto Swifty, and put her foot on my shoulder. She teleported the five of us into the throne room, which was packed with people from all over Etheria. Everyone cheered when they saw us appear.
"Glimmer, you said you were only inviting close friends," Bow said as I pulled Catra up.
"Hmm, did I say that?" Glimmer said, pretending to think about it. "Oh, well, I must have lied."
"Congratulations!" Scorpia said, running over and scooping me and Catra up in a hug. "I told you she'd say yes, Wildcat!"
"Félicitations!" a voice behind me said. I turned around to see Entrapta holding a screen with Roe and y/n on the other side.
I gasped. "Hi!"
"Your friends from another galaxy are calling you from Earth and all you can say is hi?" y/n joked.
"How is this even possible?" Catra asked, taking the screen from Entrapta and holding it above her to get a better look.
"I designed a program based on the digital blueprint for the F. Ace-T.I.M.E. application on Roe's phone," Entrapta explained, taking the device back.
"Huh?" y/n questioned. "Wait, are you talking about FaceTime?"
"F. Ace-T.I.M.E. sounds cooler."
Y/n laughed. "If you say so."
"Ooh, this is my favourite song!" Scorpia cheered as the band on the stage started playing something new. "Wanna dance, Perfuma?"
The couple clasped hands and ran over to the dance floor, both of them laughing brightly.
"Bow, take notes," Glimmer said. "They're our next target."
Bow rubbed the back of his head nervously. "Actually, there's a different target I had in mind."
Glimmer looked confused. "Who? Mermista and Seahawk? If so, we're gonna need to convince the latter to leave a shanty out of the proposal."
Bow shook his head. Glimmer's eyes widened as her boyfriend got down on one knee. They stared at each other for a few seconds, before Glimmer yelled "yes!" and jumped into his arms.
"I didn't even ask you yet," he laughed.
Glimmer kissed him. "You didn't need to."
"Woo, hoo!" Y/n clapped. "Two proposals in one night? Awesome! Surprising... but awesome!"
I intertwined my fingers with Catra's. I was about to follow Glimmer and Bow onto the dance floor when Finn came running over to us.
"Mums!" they cried, hugging both of our legs.
"Hey, kid," Catra said, crouching down. "What's up?"
They took out a small, messily-wrapped gift box from behind them. "For your enragement."
I laughed. "I think you mean engagement."
"Same thing!"
Catra smiled and took the tiny box from their hand. When she took off the ribbon holding it together, the paper covering it fell off by itself. I knelt beside my soon-to-be wife as she opened the lid. Inside the box was a round pebble, with a familiar symbol painted on it.
"Is that..." Catra started.
"The failsafe," I whispered. "For the heart of Etheria... Finn, did you make this yourself?"
They nodded. "Uncle George and Uncle Lance helped me."
"Adora, look," Catra said, turning the stone over. On the back of the rock was another symbol--a word in the First One's language.
"Family," I read after a hesitation. It took me a moment to recognize it, since the translation wasn't perfect, but the idea behind it was clear.
Catra's expression melted. "Aw, Finn, come 'ere."
She buried the little magicat in a hug, and I joined the embrace. I shared a smile with Catra; we were both thinking the same thing.
"We love you, kid," Catra said, kissing Finn on the forehead. "Never doubt it."
"I love you too, mums."
The End
