Toothless heard and awoke to a rustling noise. He perked his ears up and opened his bright green eyes. He felt two bodies cuddling on top of his larger body. Toothless knew it was just Hiccup, his best friend and master and Skye, a girl who has a complicated life, but that he likes. Astrid was great, but somehow Toothless felt that Skye was a much better match for Hiccup. Of course Hiccup was stubborn as a yak, but only time would tell what was going to happen. Toothless was saddened when he remembered that when Hiccup knew a way to get back home, then that was it. Good bye Skye. Toothless would of liked to see Skye at Berk, with people and him and Hiccup. Toothless only wished Hiccup knew what he felt. Hiccup woke up to something moving around in his vicinity, specifically around his chest. Hiccup started waking up, feeling his arms wrapping around something. He felt something rubbing on his chest, again. Hiccup opened his emeraild green eyes. His vision blurry at first, but then focusing. His chin was on top of something. Hiccup looked down, to see something black. Probably Toothless he thought, until he noticed that was hair. Hiccup had his arms around Skye! They were cuddling. Mainly Skye. She was still sleeping and the night was chilly. Hiccup smiled as he felt butterflies in his stomach, how strange. Feelings are always one of the strangest things a human could have. For some reason, Hiccup liked it. Hiccup liked how she cuddled in his chest. How she looked so calm and innocent, while she slept. Hiccup liked her hair and how her bangs swept down her face and evened out out. He liked her small nose and how when she was angry, she could kill you with just a glare or rise your hopes with just a smile. Hiccup snapped out of his thoughts when he felt Toothless nudge him softly and gave him a smirk. Hiccup only gave him a look saying "no, its not like that at all." Toothless nodded "yes", while Hiccup said no.
" Toothless! How many times do I have to tell you. It's not like that! We are just friends. " Hiccup said whisper shouting.
That woke Skye up. Hiccup felt her squirming around in his embrace. Skye then fluttered her big brown eyes open. She partially smiled.
Hiccup softly said, "Well good morning, Sleeping Beauty. How'd you sleep?"
Skye yawned and then sheepishly smiled, replying, "Who are you calling Sleeping Beauty? I'm refreshed that's all. Oh, and thanks for keeping me warm."
Skye smirked as Hiccup immediately turned red. He let her go, out of his embrace and they both sat up. Hiccup rubbed the back of his neck.
"Your welcome. Wait did you just, thank me without insulting me?" Hiccup flashed his toothy grinned at her.
She rolled her eyes.
"Wouldn't dream of it Tornado Hairs. How'd you sleep?" Skye asked, brushing her shoulders off.
Hiccup replied acting royal, "I slept well thank you, very much."
Skye got up and teased, "Good, you, royal. . ."
Skye thought about a good word to express what she thought of Hiccup. She had it.
"Pain." Skye smirked.
Skye and Toothless snickered, leaving an angry yet flustered Hiccup. Skye walked up to Toothless, who was now on the ground laughing. Hiccup's reaction was priceless. Skye actually had tears. She wiped them and tried holding it in for only 5 seconds before laughing again.
"That's not funny. I am not a royal pain. I thought you were better than that, camacazi." Hiccup smirked as Skye stopped laughing immediately.
"That's what you think. Me and Toothless agree. It was anonymous. Don't worry Tornado Hairs, when you get back home, you'll be treated properly. Like I said before, I don't belong with people." Skye said bluntly.
Toothless only waited for Skye to scratch behind his ears. Skye did after a few minutes. She had her satchel around her body and she was ready. Hiccup had gotten fish earlier, so they had breakfast in the cave. After minutes of silence, Hiccup spoke up.
"I think your just scared. The incredible Skye Worthington is scared. Can you believe it Toothless?" Hiccup said accusing her.
Skye glared at him. The one thing she and Astrid had in common: their glares. Hiccup smiled at her glare. It was his response towards her face.
"I'm not scared. You wouldn't understand. Look, I don't even know you. All I know is your first name. I don't even know your full name, or your favorite food, or what happened to your leg, or to Toothless' tail! I know its none of my business, but how can I trust you? And don't respond with saving my life. You had to because you have to get home." Skye said, putting her finger on his chest and lightly digging it into his chest.
She walked out. Towards the ocean, she smelled the air. The smell of salty ocean water. Berk smelled like that. The ocean water, the sheep, the people. That wet heap of rock was home. Hiccup thought about it, she was right. Hiccup had to prove her wrong. He and Toothless met Skye at the edge of the sand. Where the salty water met the granulated tan smooth sand. Hiccup put his hand on her shoulder. Skye turned to face him, his emerald green eyes meeting and locking on her big brown ones.
"Your right, Skye. I haven't told you anything about me or about Toothless. I'm sorry. Can we start again?" Hiccup said, smiling adorably.
Skye acted as if it was a hard decision, "Let's see. . .hmm. . ."
She put her fingers on her chin, lightly tapping it. Hiccup looked at her, his smile fading away.
She smirked, "I'm just kidding. Why not? It's only fair that the chief be treated right."
Hiccup smiled, "Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the third, Chief of Berk."
He held his hand out and Skye took it. They shook hands.
"Skye Worthington. Nice to meet you Chief of Berk." Skye said.
Toothless got in the way, holding his paw out. Skye giggled. Hiccup could listen to that all day. What's happening! Skye shook his paw.
"So, where to Skye?" Hiccup asked.
"We have to go to one of my checkpoints. It isn't far from here. There we can dress your wounds and map your way back to Berk." Skye responded.
Hiccup got on Toothless, until he noticed Skye didn't have a dragon. How'd she get here then?
"Skye, do you have a dragon?" Hiccup asked.
Skye looked to ground, slightly embarrassed at the question. She nodded "no". Hiccup liked at her. He slid down off of Toothless and walked up to her. He grabbed her hand, which fit in his hand perfectly.
" You can ride with me. Toothless won't mind, would you bud? " Hiccup said.
Toothless nodded "no" and began prancing around in front of Skye, earning a smile from her.
"Ok." Skye said, as he let go of her hand.
Hiccup got on Toothless first, then Skye got in behind him.
"Where to, Captain?" Hiccup teased.
Skye responded, "Go straight. I'll tell you when to turn or where to go. You trust me right?"
Hiccup nodded. Then they took off. Hiccup, Skye, and Toothless. Toothless jolted up into the blue sky. Skye grabbed on to Hiccup's chest, then let go quickly. Hiccup noticed how calm Skye was. She felt free and Hiccup could tell. Truthfully, flying helped Skye escape from the real world. For her there was nothing special about it, except for her responsibilities and plans. Toothless suddenly swooped down very fast startling Skye. She felt the air through every little strand of her long braided black hair, while Hiccup felt it in his auburn hair. Skye let out a small scream. Hiccup only chuckled. Skye flustered crossed her arms as she heard snickers from Toothless and Hiccup.
"It isn't funny, Hiccup." Skye said hitting his shoulder.
Hiccup responded back, half laughing, "Sorry Skye. Next time I'll warn you."
Skye mumbled, "You better!"
As they kept traveling, Skye couldn't help noticing the gears letting Toothless fly. Skye looked at the gears on Toothless side and then the red retractable tail. Then she saw his prothestic peg leg. Skye didn't want to ask, but her curiosity got the best of her.
"Hiccup what happened to Toothless? Whoever did this has great skill, to make it light enough and easy to move in. Who did it? You don't have to tell me, it really is none of my business, I'm just curious." Skye blurted after a couple minutes of utter compete silence.
Hiccup replied to her question, "I sort of. ..well. . .shothimdown."
Hiccup said it quickly, Skye didn't understand a word, just the hesitation of his voice.
"Slow down Hiccup. What?" Skye said.
Hiccup took a deep breath, "I sort of shot him down. . . "
Skye looked at him in shock, "You shot him down! Why? He's such a kind, graceful, beautiful creature."
Toothless got up, he finally got the recognition he deserved. At least that's what he thought. Hiccup explained, "It was when dragon and vikings used to be enemies. I wanted to prove my father that he could be proud of me as the Chiefs son. I used to be a mishap. I couldn't do anything right. So I made a catapult and I shot at Toothless. My dad didn't believe me, no one did, so I went to kill it myself, but I couldn't. That's when I met Toothless. At first our relationship was bumpy and rough, but over time we've gotten alot closer. He's my best friend and I'm his. Without him I would of met the love of my life, Astrid. Or found my long lost mother. Together we've stopped Drago and a lot of other things and obstacles that stood in our way."
Skye put her hand on his shoulder, "For what it counts, I think you were very brave. How long has it been since all this happened? You meeting your mother, beating Dragon and showing his sorry face that he isn't the dragon master. Isn't the dragon master from Berk?"
Hiccup nodded, blushing, "Yeah he is and its been 5 years since I met Toothless, without him I would still be the person I was 5 years ago."
Skye asked interested, "Do you him?"
Hiccup chuckled, "Yeah, actually there are two of them. Me and the dragon master are good friends, family in fact."
"Wow! Such a privilege! Your lucky, you guys are such good friends that you treat each other like family." Skye said.
Hiccup responded, "Not exactly. You see the dragon master is my mother and the other one is me."
Skye looked at him, "You played me!"
Hiccup nodded, "Just a little."
Skye crossed her arms, "I don't like being played. "
Hiccup sheepishly replied, "Is it too late for a sorry?"
Skye rolled her eyes as Toothless laughed partially snickering.
"Can I ask you something, Hiccup?" Skye asked uneasy.
Hiccup turned his head, "Ask away."
Skye uneasy, asked, "What's Berk like?"
Hiccup replied, "It a wet heap of rock, where my family lives and where dragons and vikings live in peace. There's dragon racing! My fiancee lives there's, too. All my friends to."
Skye looked down, saddened.
"Good for you. I'm sure your parents and fiancee and friends are going to be very happy to see you." Skye said sad.
Hiccup heard the sadness in her voice, "Skye, you could always come with us back to Berk. You wouldn't have to be alone. You could have a home."
Skye stayed silent.
"Berk isn't the place for me. I'd be an outcast, with no family. At least you have your parents and a fiancée. Not to mention your friends and everyone looks up to you, your the Chief and the Dragon Master. Why would I want to go to Bed? Why? Explain to me how I could be happy in Berk, a place where I'd be a total stranger." Skye said.
Hiccup thought about his dad, he sighed, "You mean parent. I only have my mother, now. My dad died saving me from Drago who had Alpha cursed Toothless. I wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for him."
Skye looked at him, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean. . ."
Hiccup cut her off, "Its ok. I just met my mother about a year ago. She was the Dragon Master, way before I was. "
Skye looked below. The water, their shadow and reflection passing by. How much it did remind her of her mother. Skye waved down at the water and then up to the sky.
"Hi Mom." She mumbled, not thinking Hiccup heard what she said, so Hiccup imitated her.
"Hi Dad." Hiccup said.
Skye looked at him and smiled. Maybe this wasn't so bad after all. Suddenly Toothless could see land. Skye looked up.
"Toothless, go around the island and when you see an arch, then land." Skye said focusing on the the task at hand.
Toothless did as instructed, but Hiccup felt bad. It was true that she could be an outcast, for a while, but he was sure that he could make her feel at home once she got used to it. Once they landed they took a short hike to a cavern, much like where Hiccup met Toothless. This cavern cove was much bigger. There was a house with a river beside it and pinwheel turbine powering the water inside the house. There was a garden and a stable. A stable?
"Welcome to one of my checkpoints!" Skye announced.
It wasn't far from Drago's hideout. Hiccup was impressed, the island was about 35 minutes away and it was very little. Tinier than Berk. How could a good sized checkpoint be hidden inside a tiny island? How? Hiccup asked himself that many times, until Skye snapped him out of his thoughts.
"What do you think?" She asked.
All Hiccup managed to say was "Wow!"
Skye chuckled at his response, "Thanks. It took a while, but I finally finished my set of checkpoints."
Hiccup noticed she said checkpoints, not checkpoint. How many were there?
"You mean, you've made more checkpoints." Hiccup said without thinking.
Skye nodded, "To be exact, I have finished 23 checkpoints and I'm currently planning to make 3 more. There are all around, so I have travel back and forth. It keeps me busy. I set up a camp for a few months and explore that area, write everything down. Draw pictures, map it out, and name it. I'll show you when we settle in. First things first, are you hungry?"
Hiccup looked at her, "No."
Skye walked towards Toothless, "I wasn't asking you, silly. I was asking Toothless. "
Toothless stuck is tongue out at Hiccup as she lead them to another part of the island. There was a river and a forest with bushes everywhere. Skye walked towards a tree and pulled a stick from the currents of rushing water. Connected to the pole were grey metallic handmade hooks and to the hooks were wiggling fish. 10 from what Hiccup could count.
"This is an invention I made. I call it a multi fishing pole. It grabs ten fish in half the time than just using a regular fishing pole. I have about 10 in different spots on the island. The river goes all around. I just go pick them up every few days. Here you go Toothless." Skye explained, handing Toothless 5 fish.
Then they heard rustling around the bushes. Something was watching them. Skye smirked. She tip toed closer to the bush and finally jumped through the bushes towards the rustling noise. What could it be?
Hiccup only heard Skye proclaim, "Gotcha! You didn't think that I wouldn't notice you watching me, did you?"
Hiccup was confused, who is she talking to? Toothless didn't hesitate to run through the bushes and find out who Skye was talking to. Toothless and Hiccup couldn't believe it. Skye was talking face to face to another Nightfury. It certainly wasn't Toothless. Hiccup saw the Nightfury play around with Skye. It was a charcoal blackish grey with bright blue eyes. The Nightfury seemed pleased to see her. The dragon pushed Skye over and began hitting her playfully, much like Toothless did when they went to Itchy Armpit.
Skye giggled, until the she finally said, "Ok, ok, I get it. Sorry girl, I know your mad, but I had good reason too. I'll make it up to you, I promise."
The dragon gave her a sarcastic, yeah right face.
"How about 5 extra fish." Skye said smiling really big.
The dragon didn't even move.
"10, 15." Skye called out.
The dragon now turned around. Her way of doing the silent treatment.
"Fine! 25 fish, plus a back rub and you can sleep beside me on my bed. If you can fit. Take it or leave it!" Skye smirked.
The dragon didn't like it at first but then nodded and began prancing around, ever so happily.
"I'm never going to understand you. . .oh wait, I'm your rider. Come on Daybreaker, I said I had good reason to and I'm going to show you why." Skye said, now noticing that Hiccup and Toothless were watching them all along.
Daybreaker looked at Toothless, then at Hiccup, then at Skye, who shrugged giving a sheepish smile. In Hiccup's eyes she was cute when she did that. Toothless smiled his gummy smile as he ran up to Daybreaker.
"Daybreaker, this is Toothless. Toothless this is my Nightfury. Her name is Daybreaker and she is being very rude. I'm sorry, she usually isn't this spoiled." Skye smirked towards Daybreaker as she tripled her over with her tail.
Skye landed on her back.
"Very funny." She said as they laughed, even Hiccup did.
He walked up to her and helped her up.
"Are you OK?" He asked.
Skye nodded, "Daybreaker this is Hiccup, the Chief and Dragon Master. He's the one that showed Drago's sorry face that he is no dragon master. Be nice, ok."
Daybreaker nodded and first the time since they had gotten here, Daybreaker smiled her gummy grin. Toothless began prancing around and began playing with Daybreaker. Skye laughed as they dragons rolled around in the grass. Hiccup was caught staring at Skye.
"Yes, oh pouty one." Skye teased copying Hiccup's hand and shoulder actions.
Hiccup looked at her and gestured back, "I don't do that. Why does everyone say that."
Skye replied back, "Because you do and its funny. It makes you, you."
Hiccup smiled, "I guess I could live with that response."
Skye laughed and Hiccup lightly hit her shoulder.
"Ow." She said, dramatically.
"That's for telling me you didn't have a dragon." Hiccup said imitating Astrid and her toughness.
Hiccup then continued, "And this is for finding a Night Fury."
Hiccup hugged her. Skye's second hug in ages. Hiccup liked it and so did Skye, but they quickly separated when they heard Daybreaker and Toothless snickering. They looked at each other awkwardly and then acted like nothing happened.
"Thanks I guess. It was really a long time ago. Remember when I told you that for my test I had to kill a Night Fury. Well that was her. Daybreaker was little and I couldn't kill her. After I had officially disappeared from Drago's clutches, me and her became good friends and we grew up together. I gave her that name because my mother used to tell me that some dragons could be fast enough to separate the day from the night. Daybreaker already knew how to fly, so I rode her to where I live today and hence she got her name, Daybreaker." Skye explained.
Hiccup remembered. He liked Skye under his embrace, it just felt. . . right. What was going to happen when Astrid found out? Hiccup didn't even want to think about it. He would of kissed her cheek, but that would be to obvious.
Skye snapped him out of his thoughts, "We should probably get back. It's getting dark. We don't want to be our here at night, it can get pretty cold out here."
Hiccup nodded as the dragons followed them back to the checkpoint. They'd eat and stay the night there.
Yass! Super long chapter! Your welcome. So there going to stay the night at one of Skye's checkpoints. Do you think anythings gonna happen? Well. . . .blah. . . blah . . blah. You gotta read to find out!!!!! I know, I know but I said no spoilers. It's sorta like seeing a movie, you can't spoil the ending.
