Chapter 26: Harmony of Soul
Y/N's POV~
I woke up in the morning with Ethan's arms around me. I chuckle a bit and cuddled closer to him. After a little bit of cuddling with the still sleeping cat, I get out of his arms and stretch. I decided to wait for him to wake up, so I went downstairs to be greeted by Lisa.
She smiles at me and hands me a plate of eggs, bacon, and waffles. Her smile widens and asks "Still your favorite breakfast?" I smile back and nod. She handed me a glass of apple juice and started to cook for Austin and Ethan. I then ask her what she's making. "The same thing as you. Now that I'm here, I can't have them constantly eating leftover pizza for breakfast every time Ethan doesn't have school." I give her a strange look. They didn't get pizza last night.
She saw my confusion. "Trust me, maybe not last night, but those two are always eating pizza." We both chuckle and it makes me think about the past. Ethan really hasn't changed all that much, has he? It didn't take long for Ethan to get up and sit next to me and eat his food.
As we were both eating, Ethan wrapped his tail around my waist and held me close to him. I blushed a bit and continued to eat my food. Soon after that, we started to watch a movie. After about an hour or two, the movie was done and we heard a knock at the door.
We opened the door to see Ace. He smiles widely and pulls me close to him. He hugs me tightly and nuzzles me a bit. Lisa notices and quickly runs over. "OMG! I love your band and your music so much!" He rubs the back of his neck and nods a bit. She runs back and has a T-shirt. "Can you please sign my shirt?" He nods and signs the front of her shirt with a big ACE. The signature was cool. The line for the A was the tail of a music note. The tail ended at the top part of the E in his name.
She quickly thanks him and says bye to me. Ethan gives me one last hug before saying bye. Ace smiles and says "I didn't know I was that popular." I shrug and say "I'm not surprised. A handsome face and a talented voice attracts any crowd." He smirks and asks "Are you saying I'm handsome?" I blush a bit. He pats my head and lifts me up.
He carried me down the street until we get to a nice, and I mean really nice house. It's no mansion, but the property was beautiful. A pond with a pavilion, filled with Koi fish. A water fountain in the middle. An in-ground swimming pool that you could jump into from the porch. It's fancy, not as in mansion fancy, but still beautiful.
Ace carried me inside and I see a female wolf. She looks over and smirks. Ace was about walk past her after gulping nervously, but right before he could reach his room, she then says "Excuse me! Isn't an introduction allowed?!" He sighs and sets me down. We both walk over to the female wolf. She smiles and holds her hand out. I take her hand in mine. "The name's Ashely. I'm Ace's older sister." I nod my head. I introduce myself to her. "My name is Y/N." She smirks.
"You're not an incubus, are you?" I tilt my head in confusion. Ace does as well. "No, what kind of question is that?" She smirks more and pats my head. "All I ever hear my brother say anymore is your name. We could talk about something like his concert and he'll always be like "I should give my cute little Y/N tickets." I look at Ace to see him blushing. A lot. He picks me up and runs into his room. From the other side of the door, I hear Ashely yell out "Don't rock the bed too much! I might not get any sleep!" I blush as if I just embarrassed myself in front of many people. Ace has it worse though. I never thought I'd see this side of him.
After a bit, Ace calms down and hugs me close to him. "I'm sorry about that. My sister can be a handful." I just cuddle close to him. "It's fine. I mean, a family that doesn't say things like that isn't a fun family, is it?" He rubs the back of his head and says "Yeah, I guess." We both sat down on the bed.
We both looked at each other for a bit. We had no idea what we wanted to do. We started talking about his music and stuff. I then thought about what music is like for him. It's his whole life, but what did it start with? I decided to ask him. "So, what instrument did you start with?" He looked at me surprised, as if never expecting to ever hear that question, from like, anyone. He rubbed the back of his neck.
"If I'm being honest, the guitar isn't my first instrument. My first instrument was a woodwind." I look at him and ask "Well, what is it?" He sighed and took out a case. He opened it to reveal a silver saxophone. He smiled and said "Her name's Laura." I nodded. "I never expected you to be a woodwind player."
He sighed and said "I'll tell you something not a lot of people know." I nod my head. "I used to be a huge band nerd. I was in marching band, so I wasn't as noticed as I am now." My eyes widened. Ace? In marching band? I never expected it. "So, what changed?" He smiles and tells me his story.
"When I was in marching band, I played Laura. She was my favorite thing and meant the world to me. After marching season ended, I played concert band. My friend knew about my voice, and asked if I wanted to join chorus. So, I did. People in chorus had to sing to the teacher. When I did, everyone was amazed. I became popular very soon."
I nod and he continues. "Soon, when the next marching season came around, I noticed a huge increase for the marching band. We were very small, but after I sang, people wanted to join marching band. It got to the point where I couldn't bare the fact people only joined because of me. People should join because they like it, not because they like someone. I quit my freshman year, and some of them actually stayed. Quite a few actually. Now, I'm a manager in the marching band, but not much people know that. And I prefer it that way."
I was surprised. I never expected this from Ace. He has such an interesting background too. I asked Ace to play Laura. He blushed, but soon nodded. He started to play "Careless Whisper" on it. He sounded amazing. I guess no matter what instrument he plays, he sounds amazing. He stopped playing and blushed. I hug him. "You sound amazing!" He rubs the back of his neck. "I don't know about that."
We soon continued to talk more. We lost track of time and ended up going to McDonald's for dinner. When we got home, we lied together in bed. He held me close to him and started to sing a lullaby. It was in Japanese, so I don't know what it was about, but it sounded amazing either way. Right before I fell asleep, I hear Ace whisper to me "I love you, forever and always."
Raise your hand if you're a fellow band geek or nerd. Colorguard counts too. 🤚
