Sombra vs The Spy (Overwatch vs Team Fortress 2)

Stealth, subtlety, deceit. When it comes to combat, few embody these words better than today's fighters. If you find out one of them is after you, odds are they're already in the same room, about to kill you.

****(Sombra)****

Real Name: Olivia Colomar

Gender: Female

Species: Human

Occupation: Hacker

Backstory: The world of Overwatch is full fierce fighters. From the speedster, Tracer, to the mechanic, Torbjorn, to the absurdly overpowered Bastion. However none of these people are quite as sneaky or clever as the lovely Latina hacker, Sombra. But before she was an infamous criminal, she was simply Olivia Colomar, just another girl. Having been orphaned as a result of the war known as the Omnic Crisis, Olivia soon found she had a natural talent for hacking computers, which she used to survive ever since. This led her to becoming a notorious criminal, aiding in multiple illegal activities, which eventually led to her joining the criminal organization, Talon, under her new alias, Sombra.

Fighting Styles: Sombra is a shooter, and prefers to use stealth, manipulation, a bit of up close combat, and hacking when fighting.

Equipment: Sombra’s main weapon is her Machine Pistol. This one handed machine gun may not have great range, but fires off 60 bullets in only three seconds and at close range it chews through enemy health like nothing else. She also possesses the Translocator, a device that lets her teleport instantly to wherever it is.

Special Abilities: At one point, Sombra had a cybernetic graft put in her spine. This essentially turned her from an incredible hacker into a living computer, which led to her most useful ability, hacking. With just some presses of holographic buttons, or even with just a touch, Sombra can hack into pretty much anything in mere seconds. She can effortlessly hack machines, weapons, and even people. By hacking someone she makes them unable to use their special abilities and special weapons (Even if those abilities have nothing to do with machines or internet). This reaches its peak when Sombra uses her ultimate ability, EMP, a burst of energy from her body that instantly hacks everything in the immediate area. And if she needs a quick escape, she can turn completely invisible with a wave of her hand.

Strength: Sombra's physical strength isn't much better than the average person.

Speed: Sombra can run up to 10 meters per second and is one of the faster members of the Overwatch cast.

Toughness: She's a little tougher than the average man, able to walk off getting shot in non vital areas. She's also tough enough to survive an assault from the Russian powerhouse, Zarya.

Feats: Sombra has hacked into some of the greatest security systems in the world with total ease. Her hacking prowess is so good, at first people thought Sombra was a group of hackers rather than an individual girl. Hell, she was hacking government databases when she was just a little kid. She's taken out groups of armed guards with ease and stood her ground against Zarya.

Weaknesses: Sombra may be deadly, but she's not perfect. She often relies on stealth and gadgets to get an edge, and if you can get past that, Sombra isn't any harder to kill than most of her targets. And, while she's an amazing hacker, she herself isn't unhackable, and she hates it when she gets a taste of her own medicine (though, you'd have to be just as good as her to hack her). Even so, if you're on Sombra's hit list, she's probably right behind you with a gun to your head by now… just do whatever she wants and she'll probably let you live.

****(Spy)****

Real Name: Unknown

Gender: Male

Species: Human

Occupation: The Spy is… Well… A spy...

Backstory: The world of Team Fortress 2 has many formidable mercenaries. From the speedy Scout, to the machine savvy Engineer, to the ridiculously big Heavy. But very few are as stealthy or skilled as the charming French assassin, the Spy. Very little is known about this mysterious man’s past (though it is speculated that he is the Scout’s father). But what is known is this globetrotting masked mercenary is a lady killer (metaphorically) as well as a man killer (literally).

Fighting Styles: The Spy is highly skilled in knife combat as well as shooting. He prefers a stealthy approach, catching enemies by surprise and killing them before they can properly react.

Weapons: The Spy has access to numerous handguns and knives, all with varying strengths. We'd be here for a while trying to explain them all, but here's a taste of what he's packing. He's got a revolver, the Ambassador, the L’Etranger, and the especially strong Enforcer, when it comes to his guns. As for knives, the Spy can use switchblades, machetes, a golden frying pan (don't ask), ninja Kunai, and even an Assassin's Creed style hidden blade in his wrist. And if he's faced with an Engineer, he can use Sappers, small machines that power down turrets and such.

Special Abilities: As a spy focusing on infiltration, Spy has a couple ways to go unseen. First is his disguise ability. Spy has the uncanny ability to flawlessly mimic the appearance, voice, and personality of any other mercenary. Through this, he sneaks behind enemies and stabs them in the back, a move that can one shot kill just about anything.  On the occasion disguises aren't enough, he can also use a number of cloaking watches to turn completely invisible for a short time. And, by combining invisibility and a fake corpse of himself, he can fake his death to fool his enemy.

Strength: The Spy is strong enough to kill the Medic with a single karate chop.

Speed: While disguised as the Scout, Spy can mimic his speed, and the Scout can run at up to 17 miles per hour. Given that disguises don't seem to improve any of his other physical abilities, the Spy can likely run at similar speeds.

Toughness: While disguised as Scout, he was once smashed through a security door and wasn't even scratched, and like Sombra, he can get shot in non vital areas and walk it off.

Feats: The Spy has done quite a bit in his career. He's bested the Sniper in up close combat, killed the engineer in seconds, assassinated both the Heavy and the Soldier at once, and has disguised himself so well, even masters of disguise on his level couldn't tell he was an imposter.

Weaknesses: He may be deadly, but he's still only human. That suit of his, while classy, doesn't provide much armor and a well placed bullet will put him down like any other mortal man. And many of his best victories were accomplished with the element of surprise. Plus, he himself has been tricked by spies on his level, and he hates it when he gets a taste of his own medicine(huh… Deja vu…). Even so, the Spy is a lethal assassin so crafty and clever, he could be disguised as your best friend and you wouldn't know it… hmm, maybe you should test your friend now to make sure they're really who you think they are…

****(The Match)****

“INTRUDER ALERT!!! INTRUDER ALERT!!!” an alarm blared at the blue base, “RED SPY IN THE BASE!!!”

“A red Spy in the base?!” The Soldier gasped, “We must protect the briefcase!” He hurried, grabbing his shotgun and running to a security door, where the Scout was trying to enter.

“Hey, I need some help ova here!” Scout said, trying to enter. The Soldier nodded and began to enter the security code.

“One, one, one….” Soldier said as he hit the 1 key multiple times, “Uh… one!” He finished the code and he and Scout entered the panic room. In the room there were two turrets ready to shoot a red Spy. The base’s briefcase was safe and sound.

“Good, it's okay.” The soldier breathed a sigh of relief, his oversized military helmet swaying from side to side with each movement, “Imagine if that lowlife Spy had got his hands on it.”

“Yes… Imagine that.” the Scout began, his accent turning french as he twirled a switchblade. Quickly, he tossed a couple Sappers, disabling the turrets. He change into the Spy and stabbed the Soldier in the back, killing him instantly. As the Soldier fell, the Spy adjusted his tie and began smoking a cigarette. He walked up to the briefcase. He stopped as the briefcase suddenly floated upward, lifted by an invisible being. The invisible being became visible, revealing Sombra holding up the briefcase tauntingly.

“So, you're the Spy.” Sombra began, looking him up and down, “I ecpected you to be taller, but you're definitely him.

“So, you know me...” Spy narrowed his eyes.

“Don't be so surprised.” Sombra shrugged, “It wasn't that hard to learn all I needed about you.”

“I could say the same to you… Olivia.” The Spy smirked, Sombra's eyes widening at the mention of her real name. However, she quickly regained her blackmailing attitude. “Now,” The Spy continued, “I'll be taking that briefcase.”

“It's all yours,” Sombra began, “But in exchange, you and I become friends.”

“Interesting deal…” Spy began, “Here's my counter offer.”

If you blinked, you would have missed it as Spy whipped out his revolver and Sombra pulled out her Machine Pistol. The two immediately put their guns to each other's heads.

FIGHT!!!

The two fired, each one avoiding the other's shots. The Spy gripped his knife and swung. Sombra stopped his arm with her wrist and threw a punch. The Spy dodged and swiped at Sombra's stomach. She dodged and kicked the knife out of Spy’s hand. The blade clattered to the ground as Sombra opened fire. Spy jumped behind a desk, taking cover as Sombra continued shooting. Sombra threw a translocator behind the desk. The Spy pulled out a kunai, then got out from his cover and threw it at Sombra. Sombra teleported away as the kunai went into a wall.

“Hmm…?” Spy looked around as Sombra appeared behind him. She tapped his shoulder, and when he turned she punched him in the face. He stumbled back as his opponent knocked his gun away. Sombra kicked at him, but the Spy dodged, then pulled out the Enforcer. He shot. Sombra dodged, but was knocked back by a kick. A hidden blade emerged from Spy’s wrist as he stabbed at Sombra's face. She just barely dodged, a small cut lefto on her right cheek. She then punched Spy across the face. As he recovered, Sombra turned invisible. The Spy kept his guard up, looking around. Sombra appeared behind him and opened fire. A bullet struck Spy’s shoulder, gushing blood. “Merde!” he cursed in French, clasping his shoulder, “I liked this suit…!” Sombra walked up to him, only to get blasted back by the Enforcer. As she recovered, Spy had turned invisible now too. Sombra looked around, gripping her gun.

“So… you can do it too…” Sombra began, then smirked, throwing a Translocator to the far end of the room, “EMP Activate!” a wave of purple energy exploded from Sombra, immediately hacking everything in the room. Spy’s cloaking watch deactivated, revealing him nearby with a knife.

“Wha…?” he looked at himself, “So… You have a way to counter my cloaking. But is that all you can do?”

“Nope~!”Sombra grinned, pointing to an area of the room. Spy looked and saw, the Sappers he had placed on those turrets earlier had stopped working as the Turrets began to power back up, now under Sombra's control.

“Adios, pendejo!” Sombra snapped her fingers and the turrets shot the Spy rapidly, putting holes in him as his knife flew out of his hand. Sombra caught the knife, then threw it. The knife dug into the Spy’s head as the turrets stopped shooting. The Spy collapsed, dead. Sombra walked up to the corpse, nudging it with her foot. “A shame, we could've been good friends…” she then made the turrets destroy each other.

Suddenly, to Sombra's surprise, she found a knife at her throat as the Spy was behind her.

“You're not too bad…” The Spy remarked, “But it ends here.”

“Yes it does…” Sombra began, “Because everything can be hacked… and everyone.” she then activated her Translocator, teleporting behind Spy. She made a holographic keypad and pushed a few buttons, hacking the Spy. He found he couldn't use his disguises, cloaking watches, sappers, or even his better knives.

“How…?!” he gasped. Sombra then shot him in each leg, bringing him to his knees. He aimed his gun, but Sombra shot his arm, making him drop it. Sombra put her gun to the Spy’s forehead, looking into his eyes.

“Bang!” she joked, lifting the gun from his head, “You're definitely as good as they say. No, better.” she then went and took a seat.

“What are you…?” Spy began.

“I told you, I wanna be friends.” Sombra replied, “But I guess I gotta sweeten the pot.” she tossed the briefcase at the Spy and pointed her gun at his head, “So, I let you have the briefcase AND I let you live, and in return, you help out your new friend here and there.”

“What do you want with me?” Spy asked.

“One of the best disguise masters in the world? I've always wanted a friend like that.” Sombra explained, “So, what'll it be? Clock’s ticking.”

“... Like I have a choice.” Spy sighed, “So, what now, new friend?” Sombra smirked, tossing a Translocator out a window.

“I'll be in touch.” She said, then leaned in and booped his nose, “Boop~!” she then teleported away.

The Spy could hear members of the blue mercenary team approaching, and disguised himself as the Scout.

“Medic!” He called for the blue Medic to heal him, hiding a knife behind his back.

****(The Results)****

Hold on Spy fans, torches and pitchforks down! Before you try and cuss me out, let me explain why Sombra is the victor.

This was a very close match. Sombra and Spy were evenly matched in quite a few ways. Their close combat skills were about the same, their experience was fairly even, and their cloaking devices had about the same effect. Plus, both had pretty much the same level of durability, as both could take hits from powerhouses like the Heavy and Zarya. However, Sombra had a few edges that put her ahead of Spy. Her hacking abilities allowed her to turn the environment against Spy, and not only was she faster than him, her Translocator let her teleport wherever she wanted instantly, giving her the edge in speed. And while both of them had impressive cloaking abilities, only Sombra had something that could deactivate invisibility, her EMP. In fact, her hacking was able to negate almost all of Spy's more useful abilities.

The Spy wasn't totally outclassed though. He was definitely the stronger combatant, he had many more weapons to work with, and his faking death ability would catch even Sombra off guard. Given the opportunity, he certainly could potentially one shot Sombra. But answering this match up isn't that easy, as the real question was, which of these two would be able to use stealth against the other? And not only could Sombra use stealth against Spy, her hacking abilities and EMP could counter any of Spy's stealth attempts (if Spy used his disguises to sneak away, Sombra could easily hack the security cameras to see when and where he donned the disguise. Plus once she hacked him he was unable to use his disguises or cloaking watch). Even if Spy could maintain stealth against Sombra, it wouldn't have guaranteed him the win, since experienced fighters like the Soldier have countered his sneak attacks before.

Winner: Sombra
