Bayonetta vs Kratos (Bayonetta vs God of War)
Since starting these matchups, I've come across many skilled and powerful warriors. But few of them are powerful enough to be known as god slayers. And these two are among the best to have that title.
For this fight, I will focus on Kratos as he appears in God of War 4, though I will include his feats from previous games.
****(Bayonetta)****
Real Name: Cereza
Gender: Female
Species: Human
Occupations: Umbra Witch, Angel Hunter
Backstory: Centuries ago, Cereza was born from the unholy union of an Umbra Witch (a human that draws power from demons) and a Lumen Sage (basically the same thing, but with angels). Cereza was born as the Left Eye of the world, basically an overseer of darkness itself, and if she were joined with the Right Eye, it would resurrect the Creator, Jubileus. As a result, a war began between the witches and sages, a war that cost the lives of almost everyone on both sides. In the end, only Cereza and her best friend Jeanne survived the carnage. To keep the last Lumen Sage from taking the Left Eye, Jeanne sealed away Cereza's memories and put her in a coma that lasted 500 years. When she woke up in the more modern day world, she gave herself a new name, Bayonetta, and began her quest to find out who she really is. Little did she know, her crazy father, the Lumen Sage Balder, was still alive and had a plan to resurrect Jubileus. As a result, Bayonetta would have to fight angels on a more regular basis than usual. Fortunately she's more than capable of handling them.
Fighting Styles: Bayonetta is a master of pretty much any fighting style out there. Sword fighting, sharp shooting, martial arts, you name it. Typically she combines her mastery of weapons with hand to hand combat and demonic magic to pummel and humiliate an opponent.
Equipment and Abilities: Bayonetta has a large arsenal of weapons and magic. Thanks to the work of a fallen angel named Rodin, Bayonetta has gained numerous powerful magic weapons. Most iconic is her set of four handguns called Love is Blue. These guns fire magic enhanced bullets, have limitless ammunition, and somehow Bayonetta wields all four at once, one in each hand and one attached to each foot. But that's FAR from her only weapons. She's also got shotguns, rocket launchers, and a bow with poison arrows, all of which she wields just as skillfully as her handguns. When she needs to get up close and personal, she has demonic swords for cutting foes to pieces, a whip for putting enemies in their place, gauntlets that let her fight with fire and electricity, a scythe that rots the victim's soul, a hammer that causes earthquakes, a laser sword, and even a freaking chainsaw for those special moments. And that's just some of her weapons, I haven't even explained her magic yet. As an Umbra Witch, her magic often revolves around manipulating her hair. She can control its length and movements, and uses it to form the clothes she wears. More than that, she can use it to summon one of the many demons she has contracts with. These titanic monsters are brought straight from Inferno, and are perfect for dispatching anybody dumb enough to get in Bayonetta's way. Perhaps most notably is Bayonetta's contract with the demon, Madama Butterfly. By creating portals with her hair, Bayonetta summons the arms and legs of Madama Butterfly to punch, kick, and stomp her enemies into submission. But Bayonetta's magic isn't limited to just her hair. She can create flames, manifest portals to a sort of spirit world called Purgatorio, create wings to fly, transform into animals, and even summon torture devices to give her opponent a painful and humiliating death. But one of her most useful powers is Witch Time, where Bayonetta slows down time to a near halt, leaving her enemy wide open for a devastating combo. On the rare occasion she needs even more power, she enters the Umbran Climax, a temporary super mode that enhances her abilities and lets her fully summon Madama Butterfly.
Strength: Bayonetta possesses immense physical strength. On her own she's strong enough to kick jets sky high, play a game of hot potato with a giant exploding satellite, throw an even larger satellite with her legs, and suplex a freaking dragon. And Madama Butterfly was strong enough to shatter island busting meteors with a headbutt.
Speed: Using Witch Time, Bayonetta has fought an entire battle in only a couple seconds. She's also dodged beams of light from the sky and laser blasts, giving her reaction speeds relative to the speed of light.
Toughness/Survivability: Bayonetta may specialize in dodging, but even if she takes a hit she'll be alright. We're talking about a girl that can block falling skyscrapers with her head and even survived a fall from orbit.
Feats: Bayonetta has defeated tons of angels and demons alike, beat her rival Jeanne, her father Baldur, and when one of her demon summons turned against her, she had no real problem putting it in its place. She's fought multiple godly beings, went to the underworld to save Jeanne's life, and even killed her universe's creator, Jubileus (With some help from Jeanne).
Weaknesses: Bayonetta may be as powerful as she is hot, but she's far from perfect. Her cocky attitude causes her to underestimate most foes, she has no real resistance to attacks on the soul, and while she is unbelievably tough, she cannot heal wounds without the use of items.
****(Kratos)****
Full Name: Unknown
Gender: Male
Species: Demigod
Occupation: God of war, father
Backstory: Ever since the day he was born, Kratos was destined for a life of tragedy and conflict. Born as a demigod son of Zeus, Kratos grew up as part of the Spartan army and rose through the ranks to become a powerful Spartan general. There were few who feared him and fewer who were willing to oppose him, but he only got more dangerous when he made a deal with Ares, the god of war. In exchange for superhuman power, Kratos would be his loyal servant, but Ares later tricked Kratos into killing his wife and daughter. After being cursed to have his family's ashes cling to his skin for all eternity, Kratos swore vengeance on Ares, and after more trickery from the gods, he set out to destroy all of Olympus itself. He would eventually slaughter almost every Olympian including his father, and somehow made his way to Midgard, the realm of Norse mythology. Here he would start over, having a new wife and son and making himself a better man. But when his new wife died and the Aesir gods started coming after Kratos and his son, the Ghost of Sparta had to take up his blades once more.
Fighting Styles: As a Spartan, Kratos is a vicious fighter in both armed and unarmed combat. For this match, the three main fighting styles that matter are his skills in hand to hand combat, axe fighting, and dual wielding.
Equipment and Abilities: Kratos will be bringing three main pieces of equipment into this fight. First up is his shield, which can extend out of his wrist armor and block almost anything. Next is the Leviathan Axe. This magic axe was forged by the same dwarves that forged the legendary Mjolnir (Thor's Hammer). With it Kratos can create and control ice and even freeze enemies entirely. He can focus it into icy blasts, enhance his shield with ice, knock foes back, and he can even throw the axe and call it back to his hand just like Mjolnir. Last but certainly not least are his iconic Blades of Chaos. These swords were forged in the fires of Hades and were given to Kratos by Ares himself. They are chained to his arms, allowing him to flail the swords around in a Ghost Rider type of fighting. Speaking of, these chained swords can also create and control fire so hot it can even burn in Helheim, a realm so cold not even magic can create fire. With these he can create explosions, shoot blasts of fire, hook the blades into enemies to close in fast, enhance his shield with fire or focus his flames into a strike so fierce it's sure to do some serious damage. And when that's not enough, Kratos can also use one of the many Talismans granting him magical powers. With these Talismans he can heal wounds fast, make himself even stronger, temporarily make himself invincible, slow down time itself for a couple seconds, and more. But perhaps Kratos' most dangerous ability is the Spartan Rage, a temporary super mode where Kratos taps into his true godly power and rage. In this mode, his strength, speed and toughness are all multiplied, and he can heal his own wounds with every punch.
Strength: Kratos' strength is practically immeasurable, way past that of his half brother Hercules, but there seems to be no known limit. It has been stated by one of the game directors, Cory Barlog, that Kratos is strong enough to lift the world, and Kratos does have feats to back this up. In God of War 2 he held back the strength of Atlas, the titan that holds the world. And in the newer game, Kratos can easily match the strength of Baldur, who could effortlessly toss around the World Serpent, a Giant large enough to wrap around the world and strong enough to match Thor in a fight so fierce it shook all 9 realms. So yeah, Kratos' full potential is at least planetary.
Speed: Kratos also has the crazy speed to back up his insane strength. He's quick enough to dodge lightning and even had the skills to beat Hermes, a god so fast he could even dodge a light speed Helios flash.
Toughness/Survivability: Kratos is surprisingly difficult to kill. He's been crushed by a titan, fallen from mount Olympus to the depths of Hades, taken hits from gods with similar strength to his own, and even been completely impaled with a sword about as big as himself, and somehow survived all of it. And even on the occasion he is killed, he always finds a way to crawl out of the underworld.
Feats: Kratos has singlehandedly massacred the Furies, the Titans, the Sisters of Fate, and the Olympian gods. He's defeated the sons of Thor Magni and Modi back to back, traveled to Helheim to save his son Atreus, killed the corrupted Valkyries, and even killed the supposedly unkillable god of light, Baldur.
Weaknesses: Kratos may be a god, but he's not perfect. When in the heat of battle, he can make mistakes, like when in a fight with Baldur, he accidentally destroyed the gate he needed to pass through. And while he's incredibly tough, he has a limit to how much punishment he can take and if he takes too much he will go down. But even with these flaws, it's no wonder why Kratos is the god of war.
****(The Match)****
It was a sunny day for the people of Earth. In the alternate reality, Purgatorio, Bayonetta was fighting off a horde of angels with ease.
"Come now..." she sighed, "Can't anyone put up a good fight?" as she finished off her foes, she noticed a portal open up nearby. Out of it stepped Kratos and his son Atreus.
"Strange realm..." Kratos looked around, "Head, where are we?"
"I don't really know brother." Mimir, a severed head dangling from Kratos' hip, began, "But if I had to ponder a guess, I'd say that strange travel stone we found either sent us to a realm outside the 9 realms, or to a different time period in Midgard... or possibly both."
"Time travel..." Kratos groaned, familiar with the idea, "How do we get back?"
"Give me some time, I'll think of something." Mimir said.
"Father, look!" Atreus exclaimed, pointing to Bayonetta who was approaching them. Kratos could see the intent to fight in her eyes and put his hand in front of Atreus.
"Stand back boy." he began, "This could be trouble."
"Oh my~" Bayonetta smirked, "You look like a man that could show a girl a good time~" she then pointed one of her guns at him.
"You do not want this fight." Kratos began, "Leave."
"I'm pretty sure I do." Bayonetta suddenly aimed a kick at Kratos. He caught her leg and threw her back.
"I warned you..." Kratos groaned, pulling put his axe as Bayonetta whipped out her guns.
FIGHT!!!
Bayonetta aimed several gunshots. Kratos charged at her, blocking the bullets with his shield. He aimed a swing of his axe.
"Too slow~!" Bayonetta smirked, dodging and activating Witch Time. She then landed a barrage of punches on the now slowed Kratos and sent him flying into a wall as time returned to normal. "How sad..." Bayonetta sighed. Suddenly the Leviathan Axe was thrown at her from the other side of the hole in the wall. She dodged, but suddenly one of the chained Blades of Chaos was thrown into her shoulder. "AH!" she screamed as the blade burned.
"Get over here!" Kratos yelled, pulling the witch in close and slamming his shield against her. She was knocked back as Kratos held his blades ready. Bayonetta stomped on the ground and instantly, a portal opened above the Ghost of Sparta and a giant foot came down on him, smashing him into the ground. Bayonetta smirked and kept making her wicked weave stomp on him. She noticed Kratos' shield was blocking the assault as he held his hand out.
"What the...?" she began, but suddenly Kratos' axe flew past her, returning to the god of war's hand. Kratos quickly got up and sent an icy blast at Bayonetta. Bayonetta dodged and slowed time again. She charged at Kratos. Suddenly Kratos used one of his talismans to slow down time as well, and countered by punching Bayonetta back. Bayonetta stumbled, surprised as Kratos switched back to his Blades of Chaos. Bayonetta got out her demonic dual swords. The two ran at each other and clashed blades several times. Bayonetta jumped and kicked Kratos in the face, knocking him back. Kratos recovered, using a talisman to heal some wounds as Bayonetta danced, summoning a demon. A giant demonic head came out of the ground and tried to eat Kratos. Kratos jumped over it, hooking his blades into the side of its head and pulling, snapping its neck. As the demon faded, Kratos and Bayonetta locked eyes. Bayonetta's hair suddenly grew as she entered the Umbran Climax. Kratos put his weapons away and clashed his fists together, a fiery aura coming off him as he entered the Spartan Rage. Bayonetta sent a barrage of demon punches at Kratos, but the enraged god of war powered through them and clashed fists with Bayonetta. The ground cracked as Bayonetta groaned in pain from the impact. Kratos then hit her with a barrage of punches and finished with a blow that sent her back. Bayonetta then summoned Madama Butterfly as Kratos' Spartan Rage wore off. The giant demon threw a powerful punch at Kratos, causing the ground to crack and break as he was hit. Suddenly Kratos grabbed Madama Butterfly's arm and flipped her over.
"What...?!" Bayonetta gasped. Suddenly Kratos sent a freezing blast at Bayonetta, encasing the Umbran Witch in ice as Madama Butterfly vanished. Kratos panted, sheathing his weapons.
"I told you to stand aside." he growled.
****(The Results)****
This fight was close. Bayonetta was faster, but Kratos was stronger. Bayonetta had more weapons but Kratos had more magic options. But in the end, there are a few reasons why Kratos wins.
Let's start with the simple stuff, Bayonetta didn't stand a chance in the category of strength. Between her and her summons, Bayonetta's strength is at best island level, while Kratos is at least planet level (The only summon Bayonetta has that might be able to top Kratos' strength is the Queen of Inferno Sheba, but A. She needs help from Jeanne to summon her, and B. Even if she summoned Sheba that wouldn't have guaranteed a win against this god slayer). Bayonetta also didn't really have a chance in durability either since Kratos has taken hits from other possibly planet level strength beings and was barely even fazed. Not to mention Kratos has much more experience than Bayonetta. When it came to speed, Bayonetta with possibly relative to light speeds was much faster than Kratos' lightning level feats, but Kratos has killed gods just as fast if not faster than that. Bayonetta's best chance for this was her use of Witch Time, but Kratos' talismans let him do a bit of time slowing too. And even if they didn't, Kratos has fought and killed time manipulating warriors in the past (Such as the sisters of Fate in GoW 2 who travelled back in time to try and make him die at an earlier point in his life, and Castor in GoW Ascension who actually would slow down time mid fight to try and beat Kratos). To be fair, Bayonetta killing Jubileus is more impressive than any of Kratos' god kills, but even that's not enough to beat his experience. In the end, Bayonetta had plenty of her own advantages, but she was nothing Kratos hasn't already dealt with.
