Escaping the Planet
Silver, Jim and Fung ran out of the portal, both out of breath. Fung was still in disbelief that Silver saved him. "Silver, you gave up—?" Jim panted. Silver looked upset at the loss of the treasure but shrugged. "Just a life long obsession, yeh two. But I'll get over it."
Fung felt his heart pang with guilt now at saying he hated Silver. "Listen, guy. I-I'm—." He began. "Aloha, Jimmy and Fungster!" Called B.E.N, making Fung groan at the interruption, but happy to see the ship.
B.E.N held out his calculations. "Hurry, people! We only have precisely 2 minutes and 42 seconds till planet's destruction!" He informed panickedly. The trio looked at one another with dread on their faces before making a break for the ship.
Doppler was doing his best to drive the Legacy since Amelia was still injured. "You're doing fine, doctor. Now just ease her over gently. Gently!" The boat crashed into the shore, making Fung jump.
Not a good driver, Fung thought, shaking his head as they climbed aboard, hearing one of the pirates (Mr. Onus) cry out down below deck:
"Ahh! We were better off on exploding planet!"
The three of them managed to get safely on deck, Silver grinning thankfully at Amelia. "Oh, Cap'tn, yeh dropped the heavens in the nick o—."
Amelia glared. "Save your claptrap for the Judge, Silver," she snapped, looking away from him in disgust. It caused him to chuckle nervously, looking at Fung and Jim. Fung just shrugged, smirking at him.
"Well, that's what comes when yer a pirate, Guy," he stated.
Amelia turned to B.E.N. "Take us out of here, Metal Man!" She ordered. B.E.N thrusted the engines. "Aye, captain!" The ship set off at full speed. Fung gave a relieved but nervous sigh, hoping they'd get out in one piece. They so far managed to get a good distance away even with Delbert's bad driving.
But his heart stopped when the ship sails got hit by a piece of debris, knocking out one of the engines as well.
Ooh... I got a bad feeling about this! The croc thought in worry; staring at the busted engine as the ship began to falter, slow down and lose altitude.
"Mizzen sail demobilized, captain! Thrusters at only 30% capacity!" B.E.N informed in worry while studying the ship database. Delbert's eyes rounded. "30%?! B- but then... that means we'll never escape the planet's explosion on time!" He said hoarsely. Fung's face fell. This wasn't good. He didn't feel like dying here!
He saw Jim staring at the portal, and at one of the machinery, obviously hatching a plan. "We gotta turn around!"
"Uh, say what, guy?!" Yelped Fung, thinking he had lost it. Amelia was shocked, too.
"There's a portal back there! It can get us out of here!"
"Er, pardon me, Jim... but didn't that portal open to a raging inferno?!" Delbert screamed. Fung glanced over at Silver who was looking at the portal through his cyborg eye.
"Yeah, but I'm gonna change that!" Jim stated. Fung glanced at him in fear. "But how?" Jim grinned at his croc friend.
"By opening a different door!" Fung then knew what Jim was gonna do, and his face paled.
"No, I- I don't wanna loose ya, guy! Besides Po and Gahri you were one of the only few friends I've ever had!" He sobbed.
Jim gave an encouraging smile. "Don't worry, Fung. I'll be okay. Just help take care of the others for me. I will come back and help you get home." Fung sniffled a bit but nodded. He trusted Jim, and knew he should still trust him now. That's what friends do.
He then tried to help Jim lift a piece of metal and attach part of the engine, but it was heavy. Silver eventually came and finished the job for them.
Jim got onto his makeshift solar surfer. "Now, no matter what happens keep this ship headed straight for that portal!" He instructed. Silver gave him a look that clearly said 'be careful'. He nodded at the cyborg and croc, turning on the engine and taking off, dodging falling debris that came for him.
Fung gritted his teeth, claws digging into his palms as he prayed for Jim to get out alive. Silver noted his expression and put a hand on his shoulder for comfort, while Delbert did his best to stay on course.
"Go to the right! The right!" Fung heard Amelia shout. Delbert glared back. "I know, I know! Would you just let me drive?!" It caused a small chuckle from him. They already sounded like an old married couple though they weren't married yet.
The croc then remembered he had forgotten to finish apologizing. "S- Silver? Earlier, I- I just wanted to say I'm sorry for sayin' I hated you." Silver shook his head.
"Yeh didn't have to apologize. I was the one who should've done it. I'm nothin' but a bloodthirsty treasure greedy pirate..." he said in a quiet downcast tone. Fung frowned, then smiled.
"But ya do have a heart, Silver. I could see it the way you are with Jim. This is a sign that almost anybody can be good if they just believe they can be," he stated, speaking from his own experience. Silver smiled back.
"Thanks," he said, before hearing B.E.N. "25 seconds!"
Fung gasped in horror when he noticed that Jim's engine had burned out; and he was falling down towards the lava. "No!" He croaked in fear.
"C'mon, Lad!"
Jim grunted desperately, stamping down on the lever to the engine while falling. Fung gritted his teeth, heart hammering when he lost sight of Jim. Silver noted his anxiety, taking his hand in a comforting way.
But then after a few minutes an explosion not from the planet was heard; revealing Jim flying up out of the crevice.
"Yeah!" Cheered Fung, jumping up and down, happy tears coming down from his eyes. The ship flew closer to the portal as Jim himself moved towards the buttons, reaching out to touch the Montressor Spaceport one while B.E.N counted their last few precious seconds.
"7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2!"
Fung instinctively held on tight to Silver, his eyes squeezing shut. He didn't remember doing this to his own father, more to his mom. But when Silver hugged him back it felt so warm, releasing Fung's tension. Even if they didn't make it, he was happy to embrace something close to a real father's hug.
