55 - Pray (Empty Gun)

I looked into into his eyes as he stood there with his hand over my mouth. I didn't want to make any sudden movements and neither did he. We both stood there waiting for the other to move but something in me told me not to piss him off. I needed to tread carefully with him, plan my next step and not let anger or fear take over.
"This all ends tonight." He whispered.
Just like that, I was angry. He didn't get to decide shit about my life. With all my force I kneed him in the crotch, knowing that will definitely piss him off. I had less than a second to run but I didn't get far because he gripped at my ankle again, making me fall to the ground. I tried to dodge the rock that was there as I fell to the ground but it still managed to hit the side of my head. I began to see stars and I knew that rock had done its number on me. I couldn't see straight as I began to claw at anything I could grab my hands on.
My body was shutting down on me at this point and I was scared to black out. I couldn't afford to black out. My head was beginning to feel light headed as I felt something trickling down the side of my face. I took one long blink to regain my focus but it didn't help. I felt my body float in mid air as I tried to understand my surroundings, I could see spots of green and could hear the bark cracking underneath his feet but had no idea where he was. It wasn't until I felt my body get settled down on a chair that I knew we were inside. I blinked hard before opening them wide, hoping it would help but all I saw was a blur of a figure standing over me. His hand reached out to touch the side of my face which made me wince in pain.
"Let's make our final night a special one." He said.
It was at that point my body gave up on me, making me black out completely.

My head was thumping so hard in my ears, it felt like I had a bad hangover that just didn't want to go away. I couldn't remember why I was feeling like this. I went to touch the side of my head when I felt the bandage on the side of my head but I couldn't move.
'What the hell?'
I forced my eyes open but was surprised to see that I was now sitting at the dining table. I looked to the far left where the back entrance was and then to the right where the walk way to the living room was. I shifted my eyes to my hands and just like that, it all came flooding back to me.
'I need to get out of here.'
'Where is he?'
I had all these questions but I couldn't answer them. Why was I tied up? What was he up to? How long did I have until it was too late? I shook my head to clear these questions, I needed to focus on the task at hand. I pulled at the rope that was tied around my wrists but it wasn't budging, all it was doing was causing red marks around my wrists. I stopped in defeat because I was only causing more pain to myself. I let out a huff as I leaned back in my chair as I looked around for something that could help me. My eyes locked onto my phone that was right in front of me on the other side of the dining table, out of reach.
"Fuck." I whispered out of anger.
My heart skipped a beat when I heard the door slam shut. I waited anxiously for him to walk in, surprised to see him walk in with groceries. I couldn't tell if it was a good thing or not. Maybe I wasn't dead as quick as I thought I would be. Maybe I had a chance to get out of here or call Jaxon for help.
Jaxon.
Every part of me was regretting sending him back home. I wish I followed my gut and forced him to stay like a needy girlfriend. This would have gone a lot differently had I just done that. Now that I think about it, maybe it's a good thing Jaxon isn't here because then I don't have to worry about him getting hurt. At least it's only me that is getting hurt.
"Hungry?" Noah asked as he placed the groceries directly on top of my phone.
"No." I responded grumpily.
I jump in my chair as he slammed his hands on the table, "You will eat food otherwise I will force feed you."
"Why so you can poison me?" I asked, anger evident in my tone.
'Calm down, Avery' I kept in mind.
"That would be too easy."
The way he said it made shivers run up and down my spine. I wasn't going to lie, I was scared about what was going to happen tonight. This is different to the first time. The first time I could have easily pretended I wanted to be with him and all would have been good. Now? He looked like he was ready to end my life and anything that reminded him of me. I knew I needed to not piss him off, not until I had a plan.
"Okay, fine. I'll eat dinner with you."
Frankly I didn't even know what time it was. I didn't know how long I had passed out for. My guess by looking outside it was roughly between 5pm or 6pm.
I looked on as Noah smiled sincerely at me before he kept unpacking the items. We sat in silence as he started to prep the food.
"Fuck!" Noah screamed out
I jumped in my chair, scared he was going to hit me.
"I forgot the chicken. How the fuck did I manage that." He responded to a question I hadn't even asked.
"So, just go get it?" I asked.
"You know that it takes more than thirty minutes to get to the shops. Why did your mum have to choose the most secluded fucking house." He said as he stared at the food and then looked at me.
He let out a sigh as he walked over to me, making me flinch. He reached out to tighten the ropes before walking away.
"I'll be back. Don't move." He said as he smirked at me.
I sat there and stared at the entrance way, waiting to hear the door slam. My eyes started to wonder around the room hoping that I would be able to find something this time around. My eyes locked on my phone which was still on the table. How on earth was I going to grab it. I took a deep breath as I began to wiggle my hands again, in hopes that I could loosen the rope somehow. I let out a whimpered cry as I felt the rope burning against my wrists, I knew this pain was nothing compared to what Noah was going to do so I ignored the pain and kept at it. By this time I had tears falling down my face, I let out a cry when my left hand managed to escape from the rope. I tried to untie the rope from my right hand but wouldn't budge. Not wanting to waste time, I ignored it and reached over the table, merely missing the phone by a few centimetres. I cried out in frustration as I leaned further, ignoring the rope pulling at my other hand and the table digging into my stomach.
I cried out in relief when I managed to grab the phone, with my finger tips I managed to scoot it closer to me until I had it in my hand. I should have called the police but with the amount of questions they ask, I didn't have the time. I knew I would get a quick response from Jaxon. So with that in mind I called him. My hands shaking in fear that Noah would walk in any moment.
I sat here as it rang with no answer, "Fuck!" I yelled out. Where the hell was he! Why wasn't he answering his damn phone!
I let out a sigh as I quickly tried again. This time there was a quick answer after a second of it ringing.
"Sorry babe I was just about to answe-"
"Jaxon." I interrupted. I didn't have time for the chit chat but I also knew he had no idea what was going on. I tried to remain calm but even I could hear the fear in my voice as I said the words I never thought I'd have to say,
"He's here."
I heard the front door rattle, making my head whip in that direction,
"Avery? Who? Noah?"
I heard Jaxon ask in a panic. Not having the time to answer him, I hung the phone up before placing it in my back pocket knowing I didn't have time to place it back. Also praying to God that Noah doesn't notice the phone missing. I quickly sat back in the chair as I slipped my wrist into the knot that was there, I tried to secure it a little so that it wasn't so obvious that I was just loose.
My breath caught in my throat as Noah appeared into the room not even a second later. I was ready to quickly let my hand free if I needed to, I was waiting for him to notice something but he didn't. He walked in whistling before placing the new bag of groceries on the table where the phone would have been. He smiles at me as he grabs the chicken from the bag and resumes cooking. It was safe to say that he had not picked up on what I was just up to. I watched him quietly as I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket, thanking God I had accidentally placed it on silent before this whole ordeal occurred.
"What have you got planned for tonight?" I asked, trying to remain calm.
"Wouldn't you like to know." He mumbled as he continued to cook.
I closed my eyes as I tried to reign in my temper, I needed to not piss him off.
"Well, we are both here on our own. I know defeat when I see it so you might as well enlighten me." I said calmly.
He stopped cooking before turning his head left to face me and look me over for a second as he debated what I had just said. I let out a sigh when he turned back and resumed cooking. I leaned back in the chair as I quietly worked on my right hand to try and loosen the ropes grip from my wrist, slowly turning my wrist left and right, feeling the burn sting into my skin.
"Finally, I'm starving." He said.
His voice caused me to jump a little. I stopped what I was doing as I watched him set the dining table up, a plate in front of me and then directly across from me. He had the audacity to try and set up candles in between our plates.
"It's our last meal so we might as well enjoy it, right?" He asked.
I swallowed the lump in my throat as I nodded, unsure on how to respond to that. For the first time I actually believed him. Something in my gut was telling me I wasn't going to make it out alive tonight.
He walked over to stand behind me before leaning in to whisper in my ear, "You try to run and I'll snap your neck. Understood?"
"Yes." I replied back, fear evident in my tone.
I let out a sigh as he loosened the ropes from my wrists, thankfully not noticing one of them was slighter looser than the other already. I instantly bring my sweater sleeves further down onto my hands to avoid showcasing the burn marks that were no doubt evident on my skin. I watched him carefully as he placed the bowl of ravioli pasta in front of me before sitting down with his own plate.
He looked up at me in between bites, "Eat your food, Avery." He said in a stern voice.
"You wouldn't want me to carve your other arm, would you?" He asked as he tilted his head at me.
I swallowed the lump in my throat as I shook my head. I took a deep breath as I grabbed my fork because I didn't want to piss him off, I forced one bite but I was so anxious the thought of eating made me want to vomit. How on earth was I going to stay one step ahead of him if he wasn't going to even hint to what he had planned. I needed a plan and I needed one now.
