54 - Where's My Love
* * *
Jaxon's POV:
"You can't see their face." Mum said as she let out a sigh.
"Are you kidding me?!" I said out of frustration as I rewound the recording to watch it again. As I watched the clip I was praying for some kind of clue, anything to indicate who would damage my car like this.
"Why didn't you park it in the garage, Jaxon." Mum said.
I let out a frustrated growl as I paused the camera, "Because I'm a fucking moron mum."
"Language!" Mum yelled at me.
"Sorry." I said as I let out a sigh.
"I know you're angry but what's done is done. We'll just have to organise replacements. Call Drew and get this sorted out. In the meantime, the cops found a piece of hair and a fingerprint, let them do their job."
"They aren't doing it fast enough." I responded back.
"Your situation isn't really a priority to them."
I watched the paused monitor as my mum walked away, angry that this piece of shit got away with damaging my car like that. I shook my head in anger as I turned the monitor off before walking away from my computer. The more I tried to watch this video the angrier I was getting.
"They literally found a finger print on my car, why can't they just run it in the system." I asked, frustration in my tone.
"Like I said, a bunch of smashed windows is annoying paperwork for them honey. You're just going to have to wait." Mum calmly responded back as she worked away in the kitchen.
I let out an angry sigh, "I'm going to go clean up the mess." I said before storming out into the garage. When I entered the garage I couldn't help but get angry at the site of my car, it would seem so trivial to people but I've put everything into this car and to have someone just smash my windows and leave, infuriates me. I shook my head in disappointment as I grabbed the broom and started to sweep the broken glass on the floor. While doing so I couldn't help but wonder what Avery was doing. I made a mental note to message her later to update her on whats happened so she wouldn't stress out. But, I knew the quicker I cleaned this the quicker I could go back to her. Something in my gut made me feel uneasy with leaving her alone.
I was halfway through cleaning the big pieces up when my mum walked in with a mop in hand, to clean out the tiny shards that couldn't be swept up.
"It's okay mum. I can do it." I said as I walked to the bin.
"I know you can honey, but I will help you. It will be quicker this way." She said as she began to mop the areas I had already swept.
Once the outside was done we began to clean inside the car. All in all it took us about half an hour to clean the glass. After thanking my mum she went back inside to start on dinner. Here I sat at the drivers seat, contemplating what to do next. I decided to just clean out my car seeming I was here and had shit everywhere. Deciding with my glove box I opened it up, surprised to see a note just sitting there staples to a photo.
Confused by this I grabbed it and opened it up to read it.
"How does it feel to lose something that you value? That you have no control of preventing? You took what was mine, it's time for me to take her back but this time.... you will feel the pain I'm going to put you through. Don't worry, she'll feel it too"
The paper dropped out of my fingers as quick as I had grabbed it when I realised what this letter was. I screamed out for my mum who came running out seconds later. By then I was already out of my car pacing as I called the Constable who was here earlier today to let him know about the letter. I called Adrian as soon as I got off the phone with the police, the panic was evident in my voice as I explained the letter to him.
"There's a chance he put that letter in your car before he got locked up."
"No. My gut is telling me something's wrong Andrew. Can you please just get that lawyer dude to call the prison. I need to know for a fact that he's still locked up." I replied as my heart began to beat faster.
"Okay, fine. Give me a few minutes and I'll call you back."
Five minutes turned into ten minutes which soon become twenty. Here I was sitting on the couch in the living room, losing my mind waiting on Andrew to call me back. I grabbed my phone out to call him back when the doorbell rang, interrupting me. I let out a sigh as I got up to answer the door. My heart immediately pounded through my throat when I saw Adrian, Drew and Watson standing there. A million questions ran through my mind as they both looked like they had seen a ghost.
"We need to talk. You might want to call Isaac." Adrian said. I looked at Drew for some guidance but he looked just as clueless as me as he shrugged his shoulders.
It was ten minutes of further torture as we waited on Isaac to arrive. As soon as he arrived with Alena my mum appeared like clockwork and grabbed a hold of Alena's hand, "Want to help me get dinner ready?"
Alena smiles and nodded her head, "Sure. I'd love to."
"We have a situation." Adrian said as soon as Alena was out of the picture.
"Where is the letter, Jaxon?" Watson asked.
I grabbed the sandwich bag which now had the letter in it, "As soon as I realised what it was I dropped the letter from my fingers and carefully placed it in here."
"Good job, mate." Watson said as he read the letter before placing it in his pocket.
"What's the situation?" Drew asked before I could.
We waited as they looked at each other before looking back at us, "Noah has escaped."
Of all the things in the world I expected them to say, this was not one of them.
"What? When?" I asked.
"About three days ago." Watson said.
"Three days ago!?" Drew and I burst out simultaneously.
"How the fuck are we just getting told now?" Isaac asked in anger.
"The prison tried to keep it under wraps because they thought they would be able to catch him without raising concern. It wasn't until I called them today for an update on him that they told me. They will be fined for this and an investigation is underway." Watson responded.
"Does anyone have any idea where he is?" I asked. How the hell was I going to explain this to Avery. Should I call her now and explain it? Should I wait until I go back on Sunday? I had no idea what to do.
"He's literally vanished from thin air. Someone on the outside definitely helped him escape though because he was armed with a revolver." Adrian said as he let out a tired sigh.
"Avery can not find out." Watson said
"Like hell I'm keeping this information from my girlfriend!" I responded as I grabbed my phone to call Avery.
"Just wait until Monday, at least." Adrian asked.
I looked at Adrian before sighing and placing my phone on the dining table.
"So, what now?" I asked.
"I am working with the heads of at the prison to try and get to the bottom of who helped him. I'll be reviewing all surveillance cameras at the prison and hopefully we can catch him before it's too late." Watson said.
"Ok, well I think the best thing for me is to leave and be with Avery. I don't like the idea of her being alone while this nutbag is on the loose." I said.
"You want us to join you?" Isaac asked as he pointed to himself and Drew.
"Nah, if she sees all three of us, she will go into panic overdrive and know something is up." I replied.
"I don't think he would want to hurt Avery. He seems to still be in love with her." Adrian said.
Drew and I looked at each other before looking back at Watson. Unfortunately he caught us and picked up on what was happening.
"What did I miss?"
"They found a few things in Noah's cell." Watson spoke up. Neither Drew nor I interrupted him, we both knew deep down that her dad had the right to know.
"And you didn't tell me?"
"Well, they didn't think anything of it because he was locked up." Watson responded.
"At the time." Drew added sarcastically.
"What did they find?" Adrian asked.
"The walls were completely covered in Avery's name. He had loads of photos of her, some he was in. My guess is his parents sent them in for him. The photos though, her face was completely ripped out in them." Watson responded before letting out a disappointed sigh.
"What are you not saying?" Adrian asked.
"It's safe to say that if Avery is ever alone with him. It won't be good for her. He wants revenge on her and wants to make her pay." I said
Adrian let out a sigh as he leaned back in his chair. I excused myself for a second to go to the storage closet near the front door to grab my small travel bag to pack some clothes for a few nights. It was the moment I walked away my phone decided to ring, whoever it was was going to have to wait.
"Hey, it's Avery." Drew called out.
"Answer it." I called back.
"Ahhh too late, she hung up." Drew responded a second later.
"All good, I'll call her back." I said as I walked back.
However, not even a second later she called back. I quickly answered before she could hang up again, "Sorry babe I was just about to answe-"
"Jaxon."
It was the way she said my name, her voice shaking in complete fear as she whispered my name. The life was sucked out of me because it was at that moment that I knew she was in trouble.
"He's here."
