1 - Rest Of My Life
Six months earlier
* * *
I had my eyes closed, soaking up the Saturday morning sun. For the first time this whole week I was finally relaxed. I had missed out on the last week of school, but thankfully was given extensions for my projects, especially when they found out about what had happened. There was no way I could have kept this a secret from them because I didn't want my grades to be affected.
The past six days I was stuck packing up my belongings and cleaning the house, getting ready to move out, Isaac managed to find a three bedroom house for us to rent out. I had been curious about the house, however Isaac had been tight lipped about what the house looked like or where it was located. Either way, it didn't bother me.
I refused to live in our current house any longer, it was a shame though, it held such beautiful memories for the last two and a half months and all it took, was one dreadful night to change it all. I refused to think about it or that small piece of bandage on my arm, which will no doubt leave a tan mark from the sun but I didn't care. I had no desire to see the scars and definitely no desire to show them to people.
Refocusing because I didn't want to think about that anymore, it always made me emotional. I leaned up on my elbows to look around, I immediately spotted Michael and Alena building sand castles. I let out a laugh when I saw Drew grumpily filling the bucket of water for them, I instantly knew he was getting bossed around by his two younger siblings.
I looked past Drew and immediately spotted Isaac and Nikki having a water fight, I couldn't help but smile at how perfect they were for each other. I hope that they continued to work through whatever issues they had and didn't give up on their relationship.
I loved the fact that we all had two weeks of school holidays which officially start in two days. I was going to enjoy it before having to return to school on the 11th April, sitting in the sun sounded like the perfect plan in my eyes.
"Avery! Get your ass up!" Drew yelled from across the beach.
"Yeah, get your ass up!" Alena repeated which immediately caught my attention, Drew knew he was in deep shit because his smile instantly dropped, now turned into panic.
"SHE LEARNT THAT FROM YOU!" I yelled in anger as I immediately sat up in shock. I wasn't really angry but it was fun to play with his emotions like this.
It was amazing how quickly Drew had become protective over his sisters, it was as if no time had passed between us. The four of us had been hanging out a lot more, recently promising to do "siblings night" once a week, or at least try to commit to once a week.
"No she didn't!" Drew yelled out in panic but the light drained from his eyes when Alena responded with "Yeah I did"
"Go get your own water from now on!"
I let out a laugh as I jumped up and started running after Drew, Drew took one look at me before giving me a chuckle just as he took off running, refusing to get caught. We both ran past Michael and Alena who were both giggling and cheering me on. Drew however, shocked me when he suddenly turned around, I couldn't stop in time before he quickly bent over, throwing me over his shoulder and then making a run for it towards the water.
"Drew! Don't! I'll fucking kill you!"
"Uh oh... did someone swear in front of the younger ones?" Drew mocked. He showed no remorse when he effortlessly threw me up in the air and laughed as he watched me splash into the water. When I resurfaced, my attention was brought to my one-piece, luckily everything was still in it's correct place. I redirected my anger to Drew who was now smiling sheepishly at me.
"I didn't hurt your wounds did I?" He asked nervously. The look of excitement mixed with fear on his face was enough for me to burst out laughing before running towards him, giving him a wet hug.
"Oh come on!" Drew whined playfully while wrapping his arms around me protectively.
"You look like a drowned rat" Isaac couldn't resist throwing in his comment, he knew it would annoy me and boy was he right when he saw me turn slowly to stare at him. He let out a chuckle but his smile dropped when he felt water splash across his eyes, he looked at Nikki in shock before turning to me when Nikki was pointing her index finger at me.
"Oh you're on, BooBear"

"That was the last box. For two girls, you sure have a lot of clothes" Drew stated while he walked down the stairs. I smiled as I watched Drew take the box to his car.
I walked around the house, into every room to make sure I hadn't forgotten anything. Walking into my room, I looked under the bed making sure nothing had fallen under there. I wasn't expecting to see anything, let alone my shoebox of memories.
'What's that doing there?'
The last time I saw it, I was devastated that I couldn't share these with Drew. I also remembered them being on the bedside table, I couldn't seem to remember how they got under the bed. Shaking my head to dismiss those thoughts, I slowly sat on the ground and opened the box and started to go through the photos, I was so focused on the photos that I didn't hear the knock for the second time until he cleared his throat.
I smiled up at Drew before patting the spot next to me, I watched as he walked in and sat next to me. I could see that curiosity was getting the best of him because he never knew what to expect from me but, he was always willing to listen me.
His breath caught slightly in his throat when I started to show him photos of the three of us. Photos I could tell he's been longing to see and hold in his hands, it was a weird feeling seeing Drew holding these photos, it made it so much more real.
"This is my favourite one" Drew whispered as he showed me the photo he was referring to, it was a photo of Alena and I, each kissing a side of his cheek while he playfully looked disgusted by the act.
"Keep it"
Drew whipped his head towards me in shock that I would give up my photo to him, before he could question it I quickly leaned in and gave him a kiss on his cheek.
"I don't need the photo when I have the real deal" I stated before we both started laughing.
"I love you sis"
"I love you too"
"You guys ready?" Isaac asked as he knocked on the door. Both of us nodding while packing up the shoebox, before getting up and following Isaac to the front door. Alena waited patiently for me before grabbing my hand to hold. I stood there for a few minutes looking over the house, the house that held so many beautiful memories but also some haunting ones. I was going to miss one particular memory I knew I wasn't going to be able to recreate, that was all the good memories that held Jaxon in them. I knew I had to leave him behind alongside the other memories that were held under this roof. With that in mind, I locked the doors and walked out.
I followed Isaac, getting into his car after Alena quickly jumped in with Drew because she enjoyed "how high it made her feel". I watched the streets patiently in silence as Isaac drove to "our" new house, I started to get an uneasy feeling about the location of this house. I reluctantly turned to Isaac who was tapping his fingers on the steering wheel.
"Isaac...."
"Yeahhhh??" Isaac asked, dragging the end of the word.
"Where are we goingggg?" I imitated his tone
"Our new house"
I let the subject go because I knew Isaac wasn't going to be forthcoming with any information. I let out an exaggerated sigh, I knew the way to Jaxon's house and right now we were on that same route. I prayed that Isaac did not get a house next to Jaxon's, because I didn't know if I had it in me to be okay with seeing his face all day and night.
I knew Isaac could sense me panicking by the way I was biting on my bottom lip. He grabbed my hand before kissing the back of it.
"I would never get a house next door to Jaxon's"
Before I could relax he continued, forcing the words out in one breath, "However it may be a street or two away from his house but it was for a really good deal and I couldn't resist it."
I instantly let out a grown before slamming my head back against the headrest.
"Sometimes I hate you Isaac"
"No you don't Boobear"

Turns out we lived exactly a street away from Jaxon's, I couldn't even be angry for too long because the house was really beautiful. I was in complete awe at how simple yet breathtaking this house was, I immediately felt at home.
Alena and I stood at the entrance of the house while we took in the light grey double story house. It almost made us feel intimidated, we have never been in a house this big. To our right there was a huge driveway which was now being occupied by Drew and Isaac as they reversed their cars towards the double garage doors. The entire front of the house had evenly spaced out rectangular windows. Three on one side of the house and three on the other, which was comforting because they didn't reveal too much of inside. Alena encouragingly grabbed my hand and led me down the stone footpath, towards the inviting wooden front door.
"Drew's gone to get us Maccas, let's go inside for a tour!"
We followed Isaac inside, I watched as Alena's eyes widened in excitement as she took in the house. To our right held the sitting room that was already furnished alongside a mounted TV, to our left was the dining room and a joined open spaced kitchen with a huge island that separated them both. Directly in front of us was the staircase and then a hallway. We both followed Isaac down the hallway past the staircase on the left, to find a study and a bathroom before going outside to a really spacious backyard.
I could tell that Alena couldn't focus on the house though because I knew she was desperate to see what her room looked like, noticing her excitement Isaac laughed before leading us upstairs so that we could pick out our rooms. It was at this point that I noticed the stairs had a 360 degree balcony around it.
I followed in awe as we walked up the staircase, straight ahead was bedroom #1; the smallest room which was closest to the second bathroom. Alena had already called dibs because it was the closest to the stairs, which in Alena language meant it was closest to the kitchen. Alena ran into her room while Isaac wrapped an arm around my shoulders and led us around the staircase balcony. Two doors faced us, that led to a room each on either side of the floor plan and then a small walkway in between that led to the balcony.
Isaac had asked me which room I had wanted. There was the option of the room to the left or the right, it didn't bother me which one I took because they both faced the street and both shared a huge balcony. I thought it was only fair that he got the bigger room though because we wouldn't be here if it wasn't for him.
After the tour, Drew had arrived just in time because we were starving. After dinner, we were all relaxing on the couch watching TV when I noticed that Drew was acting a little on edge. Come to think about it, I first noticed it after our beach adventure a few days ago, I knew better than to push him but he had already sensed my gaze and we both knew he couldn't keep this a secret anymore.
"Can we go talk somewhere quiet?" Drew whispered. I nodded before leading him across the room to the kitchen. I sat down at the table and watched while Drew paced anxiously.
"Please don't hate me. I tried to delay it as much as I could but he just won't let up"
"He, Who?"
"Dad"
I swallowed the lump in my throat as I forced the words out, "What does he want?"
"He really wants to see you and Alena."
'Well....Fuck!'
