Chapter 2: Human Life

I had finally reached the last slope of snow that bordered the town.

The stench of the cars and fumes of the town were revolting to my sensitive nose.

I sighed. "Lets get work over and done with."

I prayed that no one would see a black wolf tumbling down the snowy hills to the woods.

Once down the slope I immediately turned human and began to stroll in through the town entrance that had a welcoming archway that said 'Lunaria'.

I didn't know many people here, despite having a job at a small market, I saw familiar faces but never got to know them.

I didn't even notice as I was outside the store. Must've been in a pretty deep thought if I didn't notice that.

I walked in and I was greeted by my boss, Josh.

"Late again, Kaiden." He said irritably.

I rolled my eyes and looked to him.

"Sorry. I over slept." I lied trying to not make it noticeable.

"Mhmmm." He said as he walked away.

Did he buy it? I said as I scratched my head wonderingly.

I shrugged it off and walked to the back where my work uniform was; the crew room.

Since I didn't live in a house, just a wolf den, there wasn't any point for me to have many human clothes. I always left my work uniform at work.

I removed both my skull shirt and my undershirt. Before I could put my work shirt, I heard my coworker walk in.

"Oh, um, am I intruding?" The female coworker said shyly.

Her name was Yue. She had long, straight whitish-silver hair. Pale blue eyes that were so pale, you thought she was blind, which she wasn't. For a human, it was as if I was in love with her but, my feelings stayed with only wolf love.

I blushed. "Uh, no, no you aren't interrupting."

"Oh okay." She smiled lightly.

She came in and went to her stuff hanging on a hook and I watched her take a feather necklace off.

"Nice necklace." I told her as I put my work shirt on.

"Oh, thank you..." She once again said shyly.

"You're welcome." I returned.

I walked out of the crew room and clocked into my shift.

Few Hours Later...

It was the late afternoon and the sun was beginning to go down.

I looked up at the sky and I felt the breeze blow and I caught the scent of Kyra.

"Huh? I thought I told her and Locin to stay at their dens." I growled quietly showing my fangs through my lips.

I looked around and made sure that no humans were around; which there weren't.

I began to run and soon I was in my wolf state, following the scent of Kyra.

Please let her be safe, I prayed.

I halted and saw tracks, wolf tracks.

I sniffed them and I knew they were Kyra's.

I followed them, which they led me to a waterfall.

I was a little breathless. The sight was, beautiful. The water shimmered gracefully like a diamond.

I then saw the reddish-brown wolf napping up the water. The setting sunlight made her fur blaze like a flame.

I didn't want to disturb her so I stayed in the shadows and watched her.

She stop drinking and she sat down and looked into the water.

I crept into the little patch of grass and stood behind her.

I laid onto the top of her back. She yelped in surprise and threw me off and pinned me to the ground.

"Huh, Kaiden. You scared the crap out of me!"

I looked into her blue eyes and I blushed.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you." I lowered my ears embarrassed.

She got off of me and I got up and shook out my fur.

"I thought I told you to stay with Locin." I told her.

"Well..." She lowered her ears.

"What?" I sat beside her.

She sat down next to me and laid her head under mine.

"I just wanted to be on my own and find you, then I found this place, isn't it beautiful?" She said as she looked at me and with a peaceful smile.

"It is beautiful." I licked her head.

"But I also smelled an unfamiliar wolf in the area." She mentioned.

"Unfamiliar wolf?" I questioned with one ear tilted to the side.

"Yeah. Just their scent though. I didn't see them." She explained.

"I see."

"Yeah." She said softly.

"We should go find Locin." I told her.

I began to walk away and she looked as if she was going to say something.

"What is it?" I asked.

"Oh. Nothing." She said gently.

"Okay."

We both headed back towards my den. The sun was nearly down and the mountain woodlands were already pitch black.

I looked behind me and Kyra was little far behind. I sighed and went to her.

"What's wrong?" I asked her.

"I don't like being out at night." She whimpered with her tail between her legs trembling.

"Come on. It's okay." I nudged her forward like a pup.

She didn't budge. She was terrified.

I once again sighed.

I turned human and looked to her.

"Turn human." I told.

"I don't know how." She said as she lowered her ears.

"Just think of being on two legs instead of four." I instructed.

She tried and she did it. She had long, reddish-brown hair just like the color of her fur. She had a pink plaid flannel shirt on, jeans and brown boots. She had the most beautiful and innocent face I could ever dream of seeing.

"Oh, um, hop on my back." I nervously said.

She did so.

I could feel my male hormones kicking in the more my hands moved along her legs.

Come on, Kaiden. Get a hold of yourself. I can't do her after just seeing her human face. I mean, yeah, we've known each other for a year, but I never seen her as a human.

Once we reached my den, Locin was waiting patiently outside the den.

"Oh. You're back. And who do you have there?" He said licking his mouth and showing his teeth.

I put Kyra down but she clenched my shirt and stayed behind me.

"Locin, its Kyra." I growled showing my wolf fangs.

"That pretty little girl is Kyra?" He smirked.

"Yes."

Locin then turned human too and he moved me out of the way and looked at her and sniffed her.

She trembled uncomfortably and looked to me.

"Heh, sure is her. I can smell the half-breed stench all over her." He harshly teased.

I heard Kyra begin to slightly growl and showing her teeth.

"Uh oh." I gulped.

"What?" Locin turned to me.

Kyra turned into a wolf and bit down hard on Locin's arm and I saw the blood drip from her mouth and his arm.

"Oh shit..." I was shocked.

Locin growled and grabbed her by the scruff of the neck with his other arm and ripped her away from his arm. He threw her to me in which she turned human and she tried to fight back but I held her back.

"Easy, Kyra." I soothed. "You okay, Locin?"

"Ugh... Yeah just a flesh wound. Try that again mutt and we'll see who gets beaten up." Locin walked up to her and told to her face.

Both her and Locin growled at one another.

"Both of you stop. Locin, quit making her upset and go clean your wound. Kyra, don't stoop to his level, he's just being a pain in the ass." I said harshly.

Kyra looked at me and then back at Locin.

"Watch your back, bastard." She snapped.

"Or else what? Hmm?" He smirked.

"Or else you won't have balls left." She growled.

"Ouch, Kyra... Little harsh." I whined.

"Sorry." She kissed my cheek in apology.

I smiled at her.

"Grow up, both of you. Go get a room." Locin snapped.

Kyra snarled and Locin immediately flinched in a panic.

"Ha ha, someone is scared." Kyra laughed.

"Shut up." Locin growled.

Kyra just rolled her eyes and looked at me.

"What?" I asked her.

"Oh, nothing." She did a little smile and climbed up top of my den.

"So, did you tell your boss about your trip?" Locin mentioned.

Kyra's ears pricked up.

"Yes, all we have to do is get set for the trip." I explained.

"Trip? What trip?" Kyra butted in.

"None of your business, mutt." Locin snapped.

Kyra lowered her ears.

"Locin, stop it. Kyra, for about 10 years I've been wondering where my mother has been and I just want to know if she's alive or dead." I explained to her.

"But, how are you going to find her? Sometimes, scents change." She asked.

"Scent doesn't matter, my ancestors, my father including, have sent me signs in dreams." I kept on.

"So, basically, you are following stars."

"Close, the moon."

"Why the moon?"

Locin butted in once again. "Are you blind, look at his markings, they are blue."

"Locin." I growled.

"Sorry." He laid his head down.

"Anyway, have you ever heard of Solar wolves, Kyra?" I asked.

She sighed. "Only stories and legends."

"Well, you are looking at one." I told.

I saw her eyes widen and she must've heard about the tragedy that befell me and Locin's pack 19 years ago. She was speechless.
