PLACING A HAND ON HER chest, Hayley inhales deep breaths through her nose as she surveys the crowd of thousands in the park in Chicago. Since she stepped onto stage, she hasn't been able to wipe the wide, beaming grin. off her face. It's impossible. Whenever there's a show, there's always the anxiety; sometimes it's crippling. It's the lead-up that's terrifying. You overthink every possible outcome: What if the crowd doesn't know who you are? What if they don't know any songs? What if you mess up a lyric? What if you give the worst show of your life? But once she actually begins, Hayley gets lost in the art of performing. The worries are left behind in the wings of the stage like a cloud of dust. The positive thoughts overtake the bad. Every single time she looks out to the people who have gathered, she's overcome by gratitude. It's almost impossible to believe that they're all here to watch her.

Lifting the microphone up to her lips, she laughs softly. "I just want to thank everyone that's out here today, for how long you've been in the lines, for braving the heat, for going through the hassle for tickets... Just... whatever you've been through to get here today, thank you." There's an uproar of cheers and somehow her smile grows even wider. "This is my first Lollapalooza, my first festival in a while since tour, but I've missed everyone so much."

The young woman glances to the side at the voice in her earpiece telling her to move the speech along. She only has twenty minutes left, and at this rate the rest of the performance will be talking.

"So I'm going to make this quick because I've actually got a few new things to play for you..." Hayley waves at a pair of young teenage girls at the barricade, mascara streaking down their faces and holding up a sign that says, 'You saved our lives.' She clears her throat to try and hold back her own tears. "I recently got some news that's definitely changed my life and I've gotten the all clear that I can tell everyone. I'm fairly certain the entire world is pretty familiar with Billie Eilish, right?"

Through her earpieces, the sound of the crowd is muffled but she can hear the sudden applause and cheers. She hopes they don't think Billie's about to join her on stage... In her fucking dreams.

"A few weeks ago she announced that she's going on a tour for her upcoming album, and this life changing news is that I'm going to be her supporting act." Hayley's smile is so wide her cheeks are starting to hurt. "Okay, I've literally got people yelling in my ears right now to hurry up so I'm gonna save you from me waffling on anymore, but make sure to give Billie a shit-load of love when Happier Than Ever comes out, yeah?" She grins at the answer she's given: screaming. The nineteen year old takes the acoustic guitar from one of the stage crew and smiles. "This next one is an unreleased one... It's about feeling isolated and alone, and as if you're the only person standing in a crowd full of thousands. Really, we should all be thanking my anxiety because otherwise this song wouldn't exist. It's called Block me out."
