Festivities

England was standing in the corner of the room looking on at the scene. It was Christmas eve and America was throwing the annual party per usual. Everyone was chatting and laughing together, the entire room giving off a sense of cinnamon and Christmas spirit. He tilted the glass in hand; The mulled wine churning and swirling in a mesmerising movement.

"Bonsoir Arthur, not joining the party! You must be getting old to not enjoy this mon petit lapin."

"Frog you're older than me dammit, and don't call me that!"

"Oh come on Cherie, If you're going to look so glum you might as well leave."

"Maybe I will Frenchie." He turned on his heel towards the door on the other side of the room, drink in hand while simultaneously trying to avoid the other wandering guests. France was in tow only getting recognition when both of them had left the building. England glared unmovingly at the smirking man in front of him. France was the first to speak saying...

"You shouldn't drive when you have been drinking"

"It's mulled wine the alcohol has boiled away" He could barely finish his sentence before France had him by the shoulders and was leading him to his flashy Porsche parked down the street. England who had taken the public bus was more than anxious to park his precious Bentley on a public road. Before England could resist he was sitting in the passenger seat. Too tired, visibly and emotionally, The younger nation leant against the window pane, sighing defeatedly.

"What is wrong Angleterre you didn't put up much of a fight today not to mention your dismal attitude at the party"

"Nothing is wrong I'm Just tired" It didn't take a genius to figure out he was luckily for France. "I was just thinking about history and stuff." France outwardly sighed at that.

"You know as older nations we have been through a lot. We cannot begin to tell others of all our wars and battles I'm sure there are even a few we have forgotten. As a nation, we have risen and fallen scraping past death at points. We of all people know this I had to marry you once to save my life. Without you mon ami I would've died and even then it would be nothing new to that. That is the reality we live and it is not something we should think too much about."

The car had arrived at France's home already and was waiting there with the engine humming in the background. England only hung his head more understanding everything he had said and feeling slightly foolish. France brought his hand to tilt his friend's chin up to look at him, smiling charmingly. The pair walked together into the warmth of the large building. England collapsed onto the sofa; France chuckling lightly as he joined him. The stayed huddled together for a minute before England finally wrapped his arms around France's shoulders and pressed his lips together. The kiss was warm and slow as they bathed in the heat from the gas fire. Their chests heaved as they pulled away and gasped for breath looking at each other both dusted with a rosé blush.
