02. touch

"I am amazed sometimes", Fong commented while Tine worked his way inside to make a latte order.

"By what?" He asked listening to the radio jockey announcing how this year our city will hit the lowest temperature of the decade. Bullshit, he thought. They have said the same thing for the past three years.

"You", He answered.

"Why?" He asked, looking at him briefly before going back to the latte.

"How are surviving without a jacket on you?" He asked, earning an eye roll from the latter.

"Tine is a rare and a weird creature", Ayu snorted as Ohm joined her shaking his head.

"That guy from today's was even more rare and weird", Phuak answered. The latter immediately perked his head up to hear them. Luckily, the cafe was almost empty in this chilly weather outside.

"Right. Like, we are in bachelor's degree level of meteorology not amidst the stars of philosophy who would answer his question even more philosophically", Ohm rolled his eyes.

"True", they snickered.

"He was drunk maybe?" Ohm answered with a grin.

"I don't think he was weird or drunk", Tine answered earning stares from his friends.

"What do you mean?" Ally, his co-worker asked. She was probably listening to them as well.

"No, like it's okay to ask stuff that is too obvious. Like you know how I ask about why couldn't I feel cold? I mean it's obviously something like that", he answered, blushing from the intense stares they were giving him.

"I think it's something like Tine Teepakorn Aekaranwong is smitten by the weird guy", Ayu commented with a smirk making him blush even more. He miraculously managed to give them a forced eye-roll. Bunch of bastards!

"Shut up", he snapped, next, delivering their lattes to their tables.

"Someone's blushing", the teasing words filled the air.

Tine scoffed. He was in anything but love. How could he? He barely knew that guy. He walked in with the winter without a name, without an identity. Who was he? Where was he from? Everything was unknown. Falling for that mysterious person was definitely out of question.

He ignored their teasings and those weird somersaulting inside his stomach further and scrolled down his orders.

The door often opened and closed with a ring on the attached bell while people came in and went out letting in the chilly wind. He pretended to shiver only to get that contentment he was searching for.

A moment later the doorbell chimed again and he shivered. This time it wasn't a pretention. He looked up to find the same guy walking in. His walking winter.

His eyes didn't meet his almost immediately. He walked towards the counter where Ally stood and remained standing. His jacket was gone, he stood there in his wet t-shirt and pants and sneakers.

A loud 'ooh's from his friends made his eyes meet the latter's and his breath hitched. The guy's eyes were burning. He was angry and frustrated.

Ally might have sensed something, she quickly called him to replace her there.

"Hello", Tine began.

The latter remained standing all quiet.

"Here for a drink?"

Still no answer.

"What can I get you? Something warm?" He asked again.

Some shameless creature you are Teepakorn!

"A glass of water, please", his mellow voice startled me. His voice was really beautiful and soul-stirring.

"Filtered or Boiled?" He asked.

"Plain". Idiot.

"Right", he sighed, "a very tasty plain water on the way", he added with a bit of enthusiasm, nonetheless and went inside. After quickly filling the cup he handed it out to him.

Their fingers brushed in the process. His fingers were ice cold and a jolt of electricity shook Tine. He shivered again.

"You're too cold. You sure don't need a jacket?" He couldn't help but ask. His walking winter looked up at him with an unreadable deadpan face.

"No thanks", he answered and walked away to the table. He stayed there sitting and glaring at the cup of water for too long.

The cafe began getting empty with Tine's group of friends going out with waves of goodbyes. Ally stayed with him speaking about how it had started getting unusually cold these days and he had answered with how he thinks there must be some storm building up.

His eyes often darted towards the person sitting there. He looked so lost and helpless which make the former want to go embrace him. Something in him wanted to get to know him and get closer to him.

"You should go talk to him, you know?" Ally said after a while.

"What, why?" He blurted.

"You've been eyeing him. Since an hour", she titled her head towards the guy, "Is that the 'weird guy' your friends were talking about?"

"Uh, yes", Tine muttered before crossing her loudly, " And I was definitely not—"

"Oh shut up! I have been working here with you since forever, okay?" She laughed. "You were never this interested in any customer. You were so single all the time that I practically thought you were an asexual."

"You definitely didn't just think I was—" His eyes were wide with disbelief.

"Well, now you're definitely not", she snickered, elbowing me.

No, but since when was he this famous a person everyone wants to tease?

"Look, firstly, I don't know him. Secondly, every time he looks at me, he practically glares", he said.

"Then what's stopping you from getting to know him?" She shrugged.

"Ally, you don't understand—"

"No, I do. Just go make a move or he'll be taken by someone else".

She's got a point, he thought.

"But it's not like I like him?"

"Pigs might fly?"

"Okay, but I'll ask him his name only. And that wouldn't be for that reason!" He rolled his eyes as she grinned like a Chesire cat.

Moments later his walking winter walked towards the door leaving the cup of water untouched.

"Wait!" He stopped him.

He halted on his steps and faced him with a frown asking the reason behind such a request.

"I have never caught your name", Tine mumbled loud enough for both of them while Ally was watching them from afar with a small smile tugging on her lips.

"Sarawat. You are?"

"Tine."

"Nice to meet you", he said turning towards the door with his hands already on the door handle.

Tine might have been dreaming or something because he definitely saw a faint smile on his lips which made butterflies rise in his stomach.

Without waiting for any of his further reply, he walked out briskly, and soon he was gone.

Tine walked towards the seat he was sitting on only to let out a gasp. The cup of water has already frozen into a block of ice.

Was this for the weather or something that had to do with his walking winter? He hoped for the first.
