01. desperate

No matter what Tine did, he couldn't just feel the winter, the searing cold spikes. It's always been that nonchalant time of the year when people would just go jump around and celebrate Christmas and New Year and he would look for that sight of the snow and try to seep in the feeling down in his bones.

University wasn't really fun and all exciting too, despite the awesome adventure-mongers and nerds he got as friends. They kept on making fun of him calling him a 'walking desert'. It's not like he was bothered by the fact, but sometimes he did get all gloomy. Why couldn't he feel the cold wintery winds against his skin? Why couldn't he just enjoy this like a normal human being?

Just when he thought his thoughts couldn't go much weirder, he often found himself thinking what exactly was he?

The answer to such weird questions never really revealed itself. But to Tine's surprise, his answer walked up to him, himself. Maybe it wasn't so weird in the first place.

It was a usual Tuesday of a usual nonchalant November. Professor Dim of the Meteorological department had been going on about cyclone formation and types of fronts.

Tine was pretty conscious about the odd stares thrown towards him by a few of his classmates. The thing was he didn't wear a jacket thick enough to save him from the chilly weather outside. Why should he? It's not like he was freezing!

He busied himself with the diagrams from the book and started copying them as neatly as he could along with lectures Dim gave to escape those prying eyes. For an angry Dim was the last thing he had wanted to experience.

It was not an unknown fact among the departments how distracting Professor Dim amidst his lecture (unless it's really something important) was like inviting death as an old friend. Dim was a 'tough-to-move' kind of man. Exaggeration, it might be, but Tine wasn't ready to prove it wrong for he didn't want to spend all his life insurance so soon.

No one dared speak to him, unless asked to, well until today.

The door burst open between the lecture revealing the human form of Winter. With windswept hair, crinkled, almost wet jacket displaying the soft crumbles of snowflakes on them, and the pale face that glowed softly by the orange lamp in the corridor. His eyes moved with desperation to find something or someone.

When Tine's eyes met his, he saw a storm- snowstorm in them. He shivered. Strange, he had never shivered before, how now?

What was even more strange was, Dim had just asked him to take a seat faster so that he can resume his lecture.

The students watched him gaping and gawking and staring in awe. His facial features were perfect and could be easily compared with the fictional character Jack Frost, except he was with handsome black hair. He was a good-looking guy, no doubt albeit a bit strange with intoxicating eyes.

Tine looked at him as he took a seat in front of him. The snowflakes seemed more enticing and real now. Was it already snowing outside?

He shivered again. For the first time, he wished he had his jacket here with him.

The girl beside him seemed to have noticed that too, she asked him, blushing, "is it snowing outside?"

He didn't say anything and ignore her.

Rude.

But he couldn't help but smile a bit at the thought of snowflakes on his jacket. It might be snowing outside. The boy was really the walking winter- he thought dramatically and snickered at the thought.

When Dim was almost at the end, he asked if they had doubts regarding today's topic. Tine hoped no one did for he was too desperate to run away and see the snow outside.

To his disappointment and surprise, his walking winter raised his hand.

"Yes?"

"Winter... Where does this originate from?" His voice was full of desperation and anger. It felt like he would kill Dim with his piercing gaze.

Dim exhaled a breath, which was quite audible in the fully silent class. "Anyone who wants to answer?"

Tine raised his hand involuntarily.

"Teepakorn, yes".

His walking winter looked at him. Glared at him to be precise. His eyes held mysterious darkness ever ready to succumb people into it and render them incapable to get out of it. It was enticing and dangerous.

"The tiltation of the Earth and the rotation and revolution along its axis is the reason. Earth's tiltation causes the solstices and equinoxes and weather changes", he answered, not wavering his eyes from him. His eyes had that piercing curiosity which perked Tine's rage and boosted up his adrenaline rush. He had added immediately with a challenging gesture, "I thought everyone knew this".

His walking winter looked at him with confusion, it turned into anger soon then that bit of disappointment. Tine already loves his eyes. They're so expressive!

"No", he grunted, "it's not what I wanted to know". He ran his hands through his locks.

He looked helpless, and Tine suddenly wanted to help him... Only he didn't know how to.
