Chapter 10: Ich bin der Pfeil
She immediately drew her weapon, realizing that the blade was glowing with golden cracks in the metal, as if some sort of otherworldly energy had flooded the shining sword. It's gorgeous, she found herself thinking for a moment, then snapping back when a horrible, masculine voice dripped into her ears.
"CryoFangs... how lovely it is to see you..." he rumbled with a hideous smile, she inwardly cringed at him as his elongated snout curled up in a snarl. The SchattenSeele was pitch black, with huge wings, a long, bladed tail, and pillar-like legs, its forearms were long with its hands having warped into crude, sharp scythe blades. Its horns were straight yet short, its elongated snout had a cruel beak at the end, and those dead white eyes bore holes into her soul.
Like something straight out of a nightmare... she shuddered, and the scream she had wished to forget suddenly came rushing back to haunt her, as did another voice...
"I'll see you when the time is right, little CryoFangs..."
"It's you," she whispered, her voice wavering, "you killed them!"
"You remember me... good..." he laughed, causing her blood to run cold. "I had figured as such-"
"I do not wish to hear you speak to me, beast... now leave me before me and Eis behead and gut your sadistic self!" CryoFangs hissed with a ferocity that made Eis flinch, "we'll tear you asunder and cast you far away from here..."
"The only one who will be tearing anyone asunder is me, CryoFangs. I'll tear your throat out and watch you bleed, the prince's wings I'll rrrrrip from his body... the rest is too gruesome for your ears..." the SchattenSeele hissed in a dangerously quiet tone, Eis put his arm around CryoFangs protectively, he wasn't about to let this psychopath hurt her.
"Now then, CryoFangs... I suggest you surrender now, or my two friends behind you will gut you both like the weak little fish you are!" He demanded, and Cryo felt as cold, heavy talons settled around her sides, their claws gently caressing her underbelly, she shuddered.
Eis hadn't moved an inch, she saw sweat dripping down his face as he kept his eyes glued to CryoFangs, his gaze telling her simply: "use that power of yours!"
I don't know how, she thought, knowing he couldn't hear her. But then, it hit her, an imaginary icicle dropped upon her head, she remembered the words she spoke back in the library.
"Ich bin das Licht!" She whispered, feeling as a burst of heat erupted inside of her, her vision tunneled and she watched as the SchattenSeele in front of her hissed something...
It's time for me to save us. She thought quietly, glancing at Eis.
"ICH BIN DAS LICHT!" She yelled, and a flash of light exploded forth from her body, that unreal iridescent sheen rippled across her scales, the alien shrieks of their enemies dying away was, surprisingly, a sound she had wanted to hear.
"How come I didn't sense it earlier? DAMN IT SHIVERTHORN!?" The SchattenSeele roared, "CRYOFANGS, I SHOULD'VE KILLED YOU WHEN I HAD THE CHANCE!"
"Nope, sorry- gotta fly!" She exclaimed, sheathing her sword and taking Eis's talon in hers before rocketing into the sky, flapping her wings furiously as she got as far from the SchattenSeele as possible. Eis fired a few of his deathly-accurate tail spikes at the monster, she knew that due to the quiet thwip! she had heard behind her.
A shriek sounded as one of the spikes impaled the SchattenSeele, giving the dragons a much-needed head start as CryoFangs streaked ahead, Eis was catching up as he flapped beside her.
"Good thinking," he panted, "I don't think we could've fought him ourselves, even with your powers."
"Yeah, let's get back to the others before that SchattenSeele catches up!"
She felt her body shaking slightly with the fear running live inside of her, everything was sharper to her senses, and as she arrowed for where their friends were, she could taste the vile sourness begin disappearing.
"SCHATTENSPEERE!" Bellowed the beast behind them, causing Eis to glance behind them and he gasped, "hang on-"
CryoFangs felt as Eis pushed her out of harm's way, a shunk! was heard, and Eis roared in pain. She immediately went to ask what happened, but he rapidly shook his head, tears of intense pain in his violet eyes. "Go! I'll d-distract him!" He exclaimed.
"But Eis-"
"Milady- p-please- ugh..." he groaned at the pain that shot through him, and before CryoFangs took off, she saw a grotesque, bleeding wound in Eis' left leg.
Why am I letting him get himself killed? She asked herself mentally, desperately wanting to turn around as a roar and a shriek sounded. That's it, I don't care if he yells at me, he's not dying because of me!
CryoFangs whirled around and roared to the SchattenSeele, "YOU WANT ME DEAD, YEAH? WELL COME GET ME!?"
She flew towards the enemy she had an immense hatred for, her scales shimmered with their holy sheen as she crashed into the SchattenSeele, smoke rising from his body as he roared and spasmed at her touch. She opened her maw wide, her teeth and fangs glittering as she sank them deep within its neck, blood as black as night spurt across her face.
The ground was approaching perilously fast, and even as the warping monster dug his scythe-shaped talons into her flanks, it would not save him from the fall... or from her powers, for that matter.
"GET OFF OF ME, YOU VICIOUS DRAGON- AAAAARRRGH!?" He roared, the two combatants hit the ground with a jarring thud, the impact throwing CryoFangs off of him and sending her rolling head over tail.
She felt herself roll to a stop, her head meeting a dastardly rock halfway as she smacked into it, amethyst blood pouring down her face as everything spun before her eyes. Her heart was squeezing painfully in her chest as she tried getting to her feet, but everything was tilting and spinning, causing her to fall to her knees with a moan of pain, blood was running down her sides as well, from that wicked dragon's talons.
"I have to get up..." she gritted her teeth and tried to rise again, only to met with a burly foot pushing her onto her back, the wind knocked from her lungs as she wheezed and fought to get back up, the SchattenSeele grinned at her struggling even as his body smoked where he was pinning her with his foot.
"Too late, CryoFangs..." that horrendously long snout neared her face as he spoke, "looks like I'll have a great time murdering you..."
"You will not hurt Eis," she coughed as he pressed against her, "I w-won't allow you to take another dragon's life, especially his!"
He's almost all I have left in this world, I can't let him die!
"Why only him, hmm? Why not Nimbus, or EmberWrath, or Slipstream?" He sneered, it seemed he enjoyed prolonging the dragon's death as he watched more blood leak from her wounds, it was becoming hard to see anything as Cryo's eyes were filled with her own blood, blurring her vision no matter how much she blinked.
"I care about them, too! B-But Prince Eis is what's left of the Royal HallowFrosts, we n-need a King-"
He smacked her hard across the face with his tail, a low groan and a whimper escaped her as she just barely retained consciousness, light purple tears ran down her face. He bent down and whispered in her ear:
"A touching story, but I don't care about his social status, I just need you dead... and I really wouldn't mind if I had an audience to watch you die..."
"MISTRESS!!" Bellowed Nimbus, Cryo whipped her head up, being met with a wave of nausea and extreme dizziness as her companion came flying from somewhere up above and behind her.
CryoFangs saw, through blurry eyes, as Nimbus smashed into the SchattenSeele, clawing and biting at whatever his small form could reach, she thought she heard EmberWrath and Slipstream, but it could've been her imagination.
"Get off of me, maggot!" He hissed at Nimbus, who was furiously clinging to the SchattenSeele's body, which was warping and shifting violently, as if someone were pouring liquid sunshine onto him.
"Oi! Get off of her, you psycho bastard!" Yelled a rumbling voice, indeed, that was EmberWrath yelling. What brought them here...? She wondered weakly.
Soon the SchattenSeele was contending with a furious Nimbus and a somewhat angry EmberWrath, Eis hadn't appeared quite yet.
She happily ate her words, "CryoFangs!" He exclaimed, she turned to find Eis limping towards her, his breaths were ragged as he gently sat her up, blood dripping down her head injury as he examined her critically.
"Cryo, I need to get you somewhere safe," he sighed, lifting her chin so she could gaze at him, unfortunately, she couldn't see due to the amount of blood in her eyes, everything was purple and extremely blurry.
"What about-"
"They'll be fine, you won't be if I don't get you out of here!" Eis said with anxiety rising in his voice, he was trying to keep calm, but with the amount of blood her injuries spewed, he was slowly finding himself spiraling into a panic attack. CryoFangs felt as Eis slipped his one arm around her neck, the other hooked under her knees as he summoned the strength to carry CryoFangs.
She went quiet, mostly because she was too speechless to speak, and her brain couldn't find any words to form on her tongue to say. I feel like I should've just let him kill me... look at this mess I've created...
Eis was limping pretty badly, and soon he had to put her down as the pain in his leg became too great to handle, he crouched down to examine her again before murmuring, "please rest, I will be back shortly."
"Eis-"
He gently pressed a claw to her lips, quietly silencing her as he clutched her talon tightly in his, pressing a soft kiss to the top of her talon as he murmured, "please don't argue, I will return alive, I promise you."
With that, the prince whisked away with a single flap of his majestic wings, CryoFangs felt where Eis' lips had touched her talon tingle slightly, she sighed lightly and shut her eyes, her ears attuned to the roars and shrieks in the distance.
She had no idea how much time passed as she lay there, very slowly she would draw up the energy to make a split-second Healing spell, it only managed to stop the bleeding, but her wounds remained open and they stung. Suddenly, the sound of heavy footsteps caught her attention, she turned her head and found herself looking at the bleeding form of the SchattenSeele, her stomach suddenly felt full of boiling lava.
"Look who's still alive..." he huffed, his white eyes glittered with malice. "It's a shame what's about to happen to you. You're a disgrace to your kind and this world, you couldn't even muster the strength to retaliate verbally... say goodbye-"
"STAND DOWN, SCHATTENSEELE!" Screamed Eis' voice, the being whirled around to face him, and from what she could see, Eis was beginning to glow.
"VILE BEAST, YOU'VE CAUSED HER NOTHING BUT MISERY, AND I WILL NOT STAND IDLY BY AS YOU TALK HER DOWN! FACE ME, YOU COWARDLY ATROCITY! DO IT!" He roared, she could feel the emotion in his voice even from where she lay, the glow seemed to intensify.
"You DARE speak to me that way, Prince Eis?"
Abruptly, the light around Eis warped, and a bow shimmered into his talons, arrows made from light itself popped into existence beside him, ready to be fired. "You have no right to speak to me or CryoFangs," he growled, notching an arrow into the bow. "You have no right to be here in our presence..."
He drew back the string, now basically burning with power as the light grew even brighter, CryoFangs distantly wondered just how in the world his powers were manifesting like this.
"BEGONE! ICH BIN DER PFEIL!" He roared, and finally he let the holy arrow fly, it zipped towards the SchattenSeele and, with a violent FWOOM! and a shunk! it buried itself inside the dragon's skull.
Right between the eyes.
No sound came forth as the being fell to its knees, slowly disintegrating into a black mist as it died away, and eventually, nothing was left of it.
After that, CryoFangs fell into a deep unconsciousness, hoping that, when she awoke, everything would be alright.
I hope Eis is okay...
