Chapter 9

Now the odd group were in a sled Kristoff personally owned for his ice business; sledding along the snow with Sven pulling the sleigh.

Brooklyn held onto the edges of his seat, amazed at how fast Sven was with galloping. Kristoff smiled at the looks on their faces. "Hang on, we like to go fast!"

Anna put her feet up. Brooklyn was in the back while she was in the front. He grinned slightly at Anna's boldness but hoped they'd find Elsa.

"I like fast!" Anna said. Kristoff pushed her feet down. "Whoa, whoa! Get your feet down. This is fresh lacquer seriously, were you raised in a barn?" He spat onto where she put her feet.

Brooklyn frowned in disapproval. "No, she came from a castle, and me, though I'm really from Manhattan New York," he said. Kristoff merely shrugged and kept steering.

"So tell me guys, what made the queen go all ice crazy?" He questioned. Brooklyn didn't really want to talk about it, rubbing his arms but Anna was all for it.

"Well, uh, it was all my fault. I got engaged but she and Brook freaked out because I only met him that day and she said she wouldn't bless the marriage—!" Brooklyn felt embarrassed when being mentioned. "Anna, don't..." he said as Kristoff interrupted, but not about Elsa not approving the marriage.

"Hold on, you got engaged to someone you just met that day?" He asked in shock. This somewhat surprised Brooklyn at his outburst but was happy that he sided with his views of Anna marrying someone she just met.

Anna rolled her eyes. "Yeah. But then she got mad, then I got mad and I grabbed her glove..." but Kristoff wasn't done yet. "You mean to tell me you got engaged to someone you just met that day?!" Brooklyn sighed a bit, facepalming himself now. "Uh, she heard you the first time," he said sourly.

She continued. "The thing is she wore the gloves all the time. So I just thought maybe she just had a thing about dirt." This made Brooklyn facepalm at that notion. Kristoff raised his brow. "Didn't your parents teach you about strangers?" He asked. At that Anna scootched away. Brooklyn remained where he was. "Yes, they did. But Hans is not a stranger."

Brooklyn narrowed his eyes. "If you know him as well as me, then what's his last name?" Anna scoffed at him. "Duh, 'Of the Southern Isles'!"

Kristoff kept up the questions until he asked the grossest one. "What if you hate the way he picks his nose?" Anna and Brooklyn both glanced at each other in disgust. "Picks his nose?" Anna asked, grimacing.

"And eats it!" Smirked Kristoff. Anna glared. "Excuse me sir, but he is a prince!"

But Kristoff didn't take her Prince excuse. "All men do it!" He stated. Brooklyn frowned. "Hey, that's not true!" He snapped since he was male. Kristoff's eyes were laughing however. Anna shook her head. "Look! It doesn't matter, it's true love!"

The red gargoyle took her shoulder. "Anna-" he said before Kristoff interrupted. "Doesn't sound like true love." He interjected. Brooklyn grinned that they met the most realistic person even with his men eating their own nasal fluids theory. "Thank you." Raising her brow at Brooklyn Anna spoke again. "What, are you some sort of love expert?" Kristoff's eyes shifted. "Uh, no. But I have friends who are."

"Who are your friends?" Brooklyn asked. Anna nodded. "Yeah, I would like to meet these friends—." Kristoff put a hand over her mouth while shushing Brooklyn.

Anna pushed the hand off her mouth and tried to talk again but got shushed once more. Kristoff looked around with a lamp. Brooklyn suddenly smelled something in the air, like an animal that wasn't Sven.

"What's wrong?" Anna whispered softly. Brooklyn's eyes had begun to glow. "There's enemies close," he whispered, seeing eyes in the gloom which revealed to be a pack of wolves. Kristoff's eyes rounded.

"Sven, go! Go!" He ordered. Sven ran as fast as he could while Brooklyn watched for any wolves charging at them.

"What is that?" Anna asked. Brooklyn growled. "It's wolves!" He snarled, seeing the pack closing in. Anna was terrified at this, Kristoff reaching for any weapon. "I got this. Just don't fall off and don't get eaten!"

Brooklyn turned to Kristoff. "I can help you," he stated, right as a wolf charged. He grabbed it, throwing it against the tree. Kristoff grinned at Brooklyn's strength. "Guess you can. But who marries a man she just met?" He shouted, kicking off another wolf.

Anna suddenly raised a frying pan. "It's true love!" She smacked a wolf with the pan from her words, stunning both Kristoff and Brooklyn. Where did she get her fighting skills? Brook asked himself, as another wolf suddenly grabbed Kristoff's sleeve, pulling him off the sled.

"Agh!" Kristoff screamed, grabbing quickly onto the side of the sleigh. "Kristofer!" She screamed. Kristoff narrowed his eyes. "It's Kristoff!" He shouted back; the wolves biting him. Brooklyn saw Anna's torch, taking it and lighting a sleeping bag on fire. Anna wondered what he was going to do when Brooklyn picked it up and threw it at the wolves. It worked nearly missing Kristoff's head while Anna helped him up.

Kristoff narrowed at Brooklyn. "You nearly set me on fire, gargoyle!" He screamed. Brooklyn frowned. "Well you should be grateful I saved your skin!" Anna suddenly noticed the cliff edge, as did Sven. "Guys, look!" She shouted. Brook's eyes rounded in fear at the sight of the cliff. Sure he could glide but it leaves the other at a disadvantage.

"Get ready to jump, Sven!" Anna called as Brooklyn readied himself. Kristoff cut Sven's harness then put Anna on his back. "You don't tell him what to do, I do!"

Sven managed to jump while Brooklyn leapt off the sleigh, gliding to the other side and landing in the snow, face first. He pulled his head out, shaking it off. Kristoff had just barely made it and was hanging on for life. Eyes widening Brooklyn ran over despite Anna calling him. He reached with his hand. "Grab my hand!" He roared. Kristoff didn't know if he should but the concerned look in the red gargoyle's eyes seemed trustful. Reaching he grabbed Brooklyn's hand.

Brooklyn gritted his teeth while tugging Kristoff's heavy body. His feet slipped but was able to pull him to saftey, the two collapsing on the snow in exhaustion.

The red Second panted shakily, but then felt a hand on his arm; Kristoff's. The man was grinning in gratitude. "Uh, thanks. Guess you aren't so bad," he said breathlessly. Brook shrugged. "It's what my kind does," he said, wiping his brow when sitting up. But then they noted the destroyed sleigh.

"Sorry about your sleigh," Brook apologized. Kristoff didn't speak this time, hiding his face. Anna knelt next to him.

"We'll replace your sled and everything in it. And we understand that you don't want to help us anymore," Anna said, gesturing to Brooklyn to follow her. He did so, glancing back at Kristoff who started talking for his reindeer about helping, until eventually he looked back at them. "Alright, we're coming," he muttered.

Brooklyn smiled, happy to have more company. "Really? I mean, sure. Me and Brook will let you tag along!" Anna said cheerfully, the foursome proceeding through the winter woods together as the sun came up. Brooklyn sighed, rubbing his arm, missing his Stone Sleep. He sure could use it. No use complaining about it, keep focusing on Elsa... he argued with himself while trudging in the snow, grateful for his scarf now.

....

Far into the afternoon the group found themselves on top of a small mountain that overlooked Arendelle. They were stunned at it all covered in snow. Brooklyn's face fell. Elsa's magic really did all that?

"Arendelle..." Anna murmured. Kristoff had a hard time taking it all in too. "It's completely frozen." Brooklyn's tail twitched. "I'm... sure everybody's fine, and that Elsa would fix this," he said nervously. Kristoff looked at him. "Really?" He asked. Brooklyn couldn't answer, looking down. She had too or else everyone would freeze to death. Anna cleared her throat.

"Ok, well let's go. This way to the North Mountain?" She asked, pointing forward. Kristoff corrected her. "Er, more like this way..." he said, and Brooklyn too looked up, his ears falling in disbelief. How was she even able to reach that high up?

It was a slow trek, as they moved their way upward. But one of their scenic views they encountered was trees covered in pretty ice strands; and frozen waterfalls. It all shimmered beautifully. Brooklyn smiled while tracing his hand under the ice covered tree branches. It was quite pretty. He rather enjoyed snow in the day because of how it reflected the sun.

Anna gazed about in wonder. "Oh, I never knew winter could be so beautiful," she said. Brook nodded. But then a new voice sounded, making them halt in their tracks.

"Yeah! It really is beautiful, isn't it? And so... white!"

Brooklyn looked around for who was speaking, wondering who it could be. "You know? How about a little color? I'm thinking maybe some cinnamon, chartreuse. How about yellow? No, not yellow. Yellow and snow? Ugh."

That was when the voice revealed to be the most shocking thing for Brooklyn who had witnessed many magical things but nothing like this except on tv: a walking talking snowman who had just walked right in between them with a big smile on his face.

The snowman looked up at them cheerfully. "Am I right?" He asked. Brooklyn's eyes flashed white at the sight and from Anna screaming, kicking the head off towards Kristoff who caught it. "Hi!" The snowman's head greeted. Kristoff paled. "You're creepy!" He tossed it back to Anna who freaked again, this time throwing it to Brooklyn.

Brook cried out from holding a head, grossed out. "Agh! Not at me!" He shrieked, which resulted now in a game of hot potato, tossing the head around, the snowman's torso wandering blindly about. "Ok, we got off to a bad start!"

Anna flinched when getting the head again. "Ew, ew, the body!" She threw the head back to him, knocking the snowman to the ground. When he stood up, his head was upside down. He blinked. "Wait, what am I looking at right now? Why are you hanging off the earth like a bat?" Brooklyn realized how rude he had been, going over to fix the head. He turned it rightside up again.

The snowman smiled from his help. "Well, there you go," Brook said with his own smile. "Oh, thank you! Now I'm perfect!" Snowman cheered. Anna shook her head. "Well... almost," she said, pulling a carrot out, since Brooklyn now noted the lack of a nose.

"It was like my whole life got kind of turned upside down," Snowman whispered to Brooklyn before Anna accidentally shoved the nose in too hard and far in. "Whoo!" Snowman yelped. Anna winced. "Sorry, I'm sorry!" She apologized.

Snowman's eyes rolled up a bit. "Head rush!" Brooklyn held out his hand. "You ok?" He asked. Snowman grinned. "Are you kidding? I am... wonderful! I always wanted a nose! And it is so cute, like a little baby unicorn!" He said, touching it until Anna pushed it into its rightful position. This made him yelp again. "Oh, I love it even more! Alright, let's start this thing over. Hi, everyone, I'm Olaf. And I like warm hugs!"

Brooklyn blinked in familiarity at the name, and what he said. Olaf... where have I heard that? But no, it couldn't be... Olaf smiled at both him and Anna.

Anna pondered for a time. "Olaf?" Then she knew too. "That's right! Olaf!" Brooklyn smiled then. "From when Elsa, you and I played with our snowman that time ago," he said. Olaf jumped up and down. "Yeah!" He cheered. "And... you all are?"

"Oh, I'm Anna," Anna introduced. "And I'm Brooklyn," Brook said. Olaf nodded at them then glanced at the others. "And who's the funky looking donkey over there?" He muttered. "That's Sven," Brooklyn said, unaware that Olaf really meant Kristoff as the donkey. "And who's the reindeer?"

Brooklyn and Anna both gave each other raised brows. "....Sven," Anna said. Olaf looked back and forth at them. "Oh, oh! Ok! Make things easier for me!" He yelped when Sven tried to take his carrot nose. "Oh, look at you trying to take my nose. I like you too!"

But then he looked at Brooklyn in confusion. "Uh, but what are you? You are the wildest thing I've encountered. Are you a flying bat?" Olaf asked. Brooklyn smiled slightly when answering. "Well, no. I'm a gargoyle, Olaf," he explained. Olaf blinked. "Ga-what?" "Gar-goyle," Brooklyn emphasized, saying it as slowly as possible. That got through to the snowman a bit, having him nod. "Ah, could be easy to remember... I think," he mumbled.

Anna spoke up then. "Olaf, did Elsa build you?" Olaf nodded again. "Yeah, why?" He asked, as Kristoff took one of his arms. Brooklyn felt eager about this news. "Can you take us to her?" He asked. "Yeah, why?" Olaf repeated. Kristoff studied the arm. "Can you show us the way?" Said Anna. "Yeah, why?" Olaf repeated again, making Brooklyn facepalm.

"How does this work?" Kristoff asked before the arm smacked his face. "Ow!" Olaf snatched his arm back. "Stop it, Sven! Trying to focus here! Yeah why?"

Having enough, Brooklyn gave the reason. "Because, we need Elsa to bring summer back," he said. That really made Olaf's eyes brighten. "Summer?" He gasped. Anna nodded. Olaf then sighed. "Oh, I dunno why but I've always liked the idea of summer, and the sun! And all things hot..."

This made Brooklyn cringe at this snowman's fantasies about being in the warm summer air. Not exactly the place for a snowman. Kristoff raised his brow. "So I'm guessing you have zero experience with heat," he said. Olaf looked at him blankly for a moment. "Nope! But I like to close my eyes and imagine what would it be like if summer did come!"

That was when he went into a fantasy dance, singing about his time in summer which made Brooklyn feel awkward about breaking the news to the little guy.

"Bees'll buzz, kids'll blow dandelion fuzz
And I'll be doing whatever snow does in summer.
A drink in my hand, my snow up against the burning sand
Prob'ly getting gorgeously tanned in summer.

I'll finally see a summer breeze, blow away a winter storm.
And find out what happens to solid water when it gets warm!
And I can't wait to see, what my buddies all think of me.
Just imagine how much cooler I'll be in summer.

Dah dah, da doo, uh bah bah bah bah bah boo

The hot and the cold are both so intense,
Put 'em together it just makes sense!

Rrr Raht da daht dah dah dah dah dah dah dah dah doo

Winter's a good time to stay in and cuddle,
But put me in summer and I'll be a, happy snowman!

When life gets rough, I like to hold on to my dream,
Of relaxing in the summer sun, just lettin' off steam.

Oh the sky would be blue, and you guys will be there too
When I finally do what frozen things do in summer!"

Brooklyn saw Kristoff with a smirk. "I'm gonna tell him," he said bluntly. Anna nudged him sharply. "Don't you dare!" She hissed. Despite summer returning meaning death for Olaf Brooklyn couldn't help but admire his persistence on wanting to see it.

Olaf took one last breath. "In summer!" He finished strongly, arms spread out. After that he began walking away. "So come on! Elsa's this way! Let's go bring back summer!" He cheered. Anna was on his heels whilst Brooklyn and Kristoff were both staring in worry.

"Somebody's gotta tell him..." Kristoff murmured. Brooklyn shook his head. "Not me. Let's uh, get going, shall we?" He said awkwardly, quickly moving along, Kristoff behind him as they followed their strange new companion to continue their journey.
