Chapter 27 - Returning Home
Back in New York it had only been a couple months since Brooklyn disappeared but five or so years for Brooklyn in Arendelle. Goliath and the others had been worried sick for him being gone for so long, having asked Xanatos more questions about that snowflake he had in his collection.
Xanatos at first was nervous about telling them where he'd gotten it, but since it was a little too late now with Brooklyn being gone for this long and Goliath losing his patience with him, Xanatos eventually came clean.
"Well, if you want to know; Demona had given me the snowflake crystal when we first met after she stole it from the Archmage with the Phoenix Gate." David explained to Goliath.
Goliath couldn't believe those words but then felt some truth in them. "Why did the Archmage have something that powerful when he had the Phoenix Gate and the Grimorum already?" He asked Xanatos who looked rather guilty of not telling them where it came from.
"The Archmage knew that this snowflake could lead him to a place where magic reigned, and if he merged himself with it, it would allow him to travel to and from there as he pleased. But when Demona stole that and the Phoenix Gate, it was the last straw for him to have a gargoyle apprentice. After I met her, she had given it to me for safekeeping until Brooklyn had uncovered it."
Lexington however still wanted his bro back. "But, how are we supposed to get him home? He was gone for months!" They had already asked Puck if he could find Brooklyn but Puck said he couldn't do anything if he hadn't seen the device.
Hudson had an arm around him. "Don't worry lad, we'll keep figuring it out. We won't give up on him. I just hope the lad didn't have any problems, wherever he is."
....
Back in Arendelle, the newly wedded couple were mostly sleeping in their bed at the ice castle when Brooklyn felt himself wake up, yawning sleepily. He knew today was the last day of their honeymoon and of possibly for him to return home again which made him excited but then, he would have his stone sleep return in that world.
At least I got to experience sleeping with a mate in bed. For any gargoyle it is a dream, Brook thought in a sad way, looking towards his wife, Elsa. She lay there, still sleeping but as beautiful as ever, making Brooklyn grin softly, stroking her hair gently. He never thought that he would actually win a girl's heart but this was his reward. And Brooklyn was glad about it.
Soon though Brooklyn began to wake her gently. "Elsa, we gotta get up." Brooklyn coaxed, Elsa moaning but turning, smiling in a tired way at him. "Good morning, my love." She greeted, the two giving each other a kiss again.
"I hate to leave though we do need to go home so we can figure out how to get to New York," Brooklyn told Elsa as the two sat up. All Brooklyn needed was his loincloth but he would let his wife have privacy to get dressed.
She nodded. "I'm sure my magic will figure out something. We can talk to Yelma about it too." After slipping on her dress, the two went to have one last breakfast before soon heading out to their horse cart to prepare for the ride home.
....
During their honeymoon Olaf had really been missing Elsa and Brooklyn, asking almost every day if they were back yet and each reply had been no so far. But then just hours before they will eventually show, Anna was watering some of her plants on the castle balcony when Olaf startled her.
"Are they back yet?!" Olaf exclaimed in his childlike manner, making Anna nearly drop her watering can.
She shook her head. "No, Olaf. But soon. Wedded couples usually need time for themselves after getting married, I've told you before.
Olaf lowered his head in sadness but nodded. "I just can't be without Elsa for so long. It doesn't feel right without her or Brooklyn. And why does Brooklyn have to go home again?"
Anna sighed. She didn't like it much either but they had to let Brooklyn see his clan again. "Brooklyn can't really stay here forever Olaf. I hope you can understand."
The snowman gave a small whine about that but then Anna gave him a hug which he accepted, until suddenly Kai showed up, his face looking excited. "Your majesty, Elsa and Brooklyn are almost here!" He exclaimed, Anna looking quite happy after the two broke apart, following Kai outside where they could hear the crowds in Arendelle cheering for their return.
In the horse carriage Brooklyn and Elsa both had their arms around each other while their driver drove them in, Elsa waving to the people when the horse walked through the crowd.
Brooklyn grinned at the sight of Anna, knowing now she was his new sister since he and Elsa were married. The carriage stopped and the young couple stepped out, Anna running forward to hug her sister. "We've only been gone for a couple months, sis," Elsa chuckled. Anna hugged her tight. "It really felt like forever. Was rather stressful being a queen without you here. And welcome back home for you too, Brooklyn."
The red gargoyle bowed to Anna. "It feels great to be back but rather delightful to be alone together for a time. Though I'm more than eager to figure out how to get back to New York as soon as we can."
Anna nodded. "We can figure it out right away after you guys get unpacked. But some magic would probably have to be involved, right Elsa?"
Elsa agreed. "Yes since our parents mentioned it. Not sure how my ice magic would help you out but I think I recall a snowflake artifact sending you here, right?"
Brooklyn nodded. "Yeah. All I did was touch it and it pulled me into a vortex. You think somewhere in the Enchanted Forest something like that could be there?" He wondered, stroking his beak while they went upstairs into their rooms.
Elsa hummed before inclining her head. "There must be an artifact we could find that will help. But that means going back to the Enchanted Forest too."
The red gargoyle swished his tail though there was no other way since the trolls couldn't send him home. And with his air power he could easily fly there no sweat, so he agreed. "Ok. Then that's where we're heading next."
...
Soon there was preparations in order to get the two ready to head to the Enchanted Forest. By the ocean shore, Elsa summoned the water spirit who rose to the surface, whinnying, allowing Elsa to cover it in frost before climbing on.
Brooklyn straddled his shoulder bag, getting ready to fly but turned to Anna, tears in his eyes. She looked ready to break. "I-I know this is hard, Anna. I will miss you greatly." He said shakily, taking her hand.
Anna sniffled, squeezing it. "Thank you so much for protecting the kingdom, Brook. You're always welcome to return whenever you need to." She stated in her queenly manner, making Brooklyn grin with a watery gaze, hugging her once more.
Olaf wailed, gripping his leg. "No! Don't go! Please!" He sobbed, Sven moaning too since he and Kristoff were there.
Brooklyn rubbed the snowman's head. "Hey, easy Olaf. We will always be friends no matter where I am."
Sven nudged then licked Brooklyn who chuckled, petting the reindeer then Kristoff held out his hand. "I loved meeting you, Brooklyn. You've been a great friend." The man proclaimed, Brooklyn bowing back to him. "Continue to take care of Sven." He said, Kristoff hugging his reindeer in response, turning to stand next to Elsa, taking her hand while she sat on the horse. She had given Anna her own sisterly goodbye hug too.
Soon, the couple stood at the edge of the shoreline, before eventually Elsa had the water spirit gallop across the ice. Brooklyn took a breath, allowing the wind spirit in him to help him fly across too, soaring above Elsa who waved up at him. Brooklyn gazed back at his new family on the shoreline, knowing he will miss them greatly, tears starting to fall down his cheeks.
....
It took them quite some time to get there but they made it by mid afternoon, Brooklyn seeing the Enchanted Forest from the horizon, looking forward to resting his wings even if he did gain those wind powers.
He and Elsa reached the shore, Elsa halting the Water Spirit and letting it go back into its domain, taking Brooklyn's hand as they ventured towards the entrance.
They spotted Honeymaren in the field with Rider taking care of the reindeer, waving to the two who waved them back.
Walking through the forest into the Northuldra encampment, Elsa and Brooklyn went to speak with Yelana.
Yelana smiled at the young couple's return. "Welcome back from your honeymoon. I trust it was pleasant?"
Brook nodded, flushing. "It was a great time. But I'm more than ready to go home." He then stated. "My birth home."
The elder blinked her eyes for a moment then nodded again. "I see. And will your magic help that in any way, Elsa?"
"Yes, but I don't know what I should do." Elsa claimed, staring at her hands. Yelana recalled her story of how she made memories appear. "Perhaps, back at Ahtohallan you can find some kind of connection to Brooklyn's homeworld." Yelana told them.
That made the red gargoyle tense at the mention of Ahtohallan, stepping backward. "Oh, no, I don't really want to go back after nearly freezing to death there! Both of us!" He yelped, shaking, wings opened up.
Elsa took her lover's hand gently to try and calm him down. "Brooklyn, I know that place is bad news, but it is our only way. We just have to try. For your sake and for your clan," She pleaded, gazing into the red gargoyle's eyes who were full of fear for the cursed glacier.
Swallowing, eventually Brooklyn gave into his love's voice of assurance as he soon agreed, the two hugging each other, Yelana smiling at them both. "It had been an honor to have you here Brooklyn but I hope you can come back to see us again."
Bowing Brooklyn agreed since he liked the new friends he made. "Same here. And try to continue to keep the peace for both kingdoms."
Soon the couple went on their way to the Dark Sea, Brooklyn's nerves getting the better of him but he knew that Elsa would probably have to fly on his back so they can get there faster. He stared out at the still rough waters, trembling. Elsa gave him a kiss of encouragement, making the red male relax slightly.
"Come on, l-let's go." Brooklyn said shakily, Elsa climbing up onto his back. taking a shaky breath; Brooklyn took to the sky, grateful for his wind powers again to help him get across, spotting Ahtohallan from a distance. His mind told him he had to be brave, even if he was still afraid to be frozen solid again after it happened twice.
The couple flew for a few hours, not saying anything too much but Elsa was mostly planning of what they could do there to make a portal to New York.
Upon landing on the ice sometime later, they both stared at the dark entrance, Brooklyn breathing raspily from feeling rather breathless. Elsa smiled encouragingly again, inclining her head when she felt his skin shiver.
After breathing to calm himself down, Brooklyn took a step into the foreboding glacier, not liking this one bit but he trusted his mate, and she trusted in him to be able to do it. Wandering through the tunnel in the familiar areas, Elsa broke through the fog barrier to the chamber where she got her fifth Element, the glowing crystals of the other 4 including Brooklyn's Wind Spirit lay in wait for them.
Brooklyn stared at the crystals for a brief moment before turning to his mate again. "So... what do we do?"
Elsa thought for a moment. "Since water has memory and all this is ice, maybe summoning memories of your home will cause us to get there. Can you still remember what New York looked like, and your clan?"
Nodding, Brooklyn shut his eyes, doing his best to remember, his hands rising to summon the wind and having the green Wind crystal float above his head. The voices of Goliath and the others now began to ring in his ears, making tears come to his eyes for he hadn't heard them in ages.
Smiling, Elsa used her magic mixed with his to combine both air and ice, the other Element crystals began to swirl around them. They both concentrated as much as they could, spinning faster and faster until Brooklyn's ears picked up something that wasn't part of any memories, opening them, glancing up in surprise at the sight of what looked like the inside of the Eyrie building!
"E-Elsa, look!" Brooklyn roared, struggling to keep that portal opened, seeing it getting closer and closer to them, and vaguely spotting the image of Hudson.
Elsa set her jaw, still doing her best in ensuring their ticket home didn't shut down, knowing this was their chance.
...
While this was going on the clan and David were all in a gathering together in the living room, wondering what they would do to find out where Brooklyn was along with Puck having Alex scanning other dimensions until Bronx heard a noise, standing up and barking when a flash of light occurred.
"What is it Bronx?" Hudson questioned in curiosity, eyes turning to where the gar beast was barking at until his eyes widened at the sight of a weird light swirling in the middle of the room.
Angela had jumped to her feet from the sight, Puck staring. "That's not my magic!" He exclaimed, holding up his hands, Alex cooing in reply at it not being his either.
The portal looking light grew bigger and bigger until something fell out of it, along with another smaller mass as well. A blinding flash echoed through the castle, Goliath shielding his eyes.
When their vision returned, Goliath at first couldn't believe what he was seeing. It just couldn't be!
A familiar red gargoyle struggled to stand up, a weak moan coming from him, Lex staring open mouthed. Brooklyn turned to his clan, smiling tiredly. "Hey guys." He greeted, feeling happy to be back home at last.
...
Sorry about the long wait for this chapter but it is finally here!
