FYI this takes place in a au where Andy and Lauren along with Dreamer and Blink never went to Trask. Esme's sisters are still locked up but good news no Hound Duos with combined powers and no dead Sonya.

The boy shouldn't have risked his life to save Esme and end up on the ground bleeding from a head wound.  The kid should not have been unresponsive with his frantic worried family rushing toward him. His sister and father yelling his name shortly before his mother put a bandage and applied pressure. " ANDY!"

This wasn't a part of Esme's plan.  She didn't expect that brainwashed woman to have a fail safe. That on the edge of death to take as many mutants with her as possible.  This kid pushed Esme aside with his telekinetic power and took a blow meant for the blond telepath.

Emse knew people at the Underground were supposed to be nobler with a set of outdated ethics and the rules of the old X-Men but this kid acted valiantly and selflessly.  Mutant collateral damage consisting of someone younger then her wasn't a part of Esme's plan to free her sisters. And wasn't something she wanted to happen at all.

Esme froze when she watched the family and others rush to the boy.  Getting him immediate medical treatment. She still couldn't believe how the kid risked the extremely high chance of getting killed for a total stranger.  A stranger that nobody knew was playing all of them for her own goals.

Eventually she recovered and tried to see if the kid was okay.  But at first she didn't ask directly she just read people's minds and was happy to hear he was alive and nothing permanent or long lasting.  But when she tried to get more information on Andy from his mother Catlin noticed.  But Esme didn't get a lecture or a glare for gravelly intruding or violating someone's mind.

" I can see your concerned about my son. When he risked himself and hit the ground you felt so guilty that you didn't have a offensive power. I'm proud of him for getting in the way and helping you. He's asking about you as well and trust me he doesn't have any hard feelings. He is in great condition so you can visit him."

This woman was actually pretty close to the truth but it didn't help the guilt she was feeling.  It was like this burden merely tripled in size. She felt awful when she saw the boy with a bandage around his head and he was trying to draw distracted by thoughts about her.

Both of them smiled nervously at each other. " I'm glad your okay. I was worried that if I just went out like a light from just one punch you would've have still gotten hurt. I was worried I didn't do enough. 

What came next was not easy for Esme to say." You shouldn't have done it. I would have deserved it for what I was planning to do. If you knew the truth you wouldn't have put yourself at risk. "

Andy was prepared to listen to her." Try me. Esme I'm not regretting saving you from a blow that might have killed you or permanently damaged your mind. So please just tell me."

This was not the reaction she expected.  And this wasn't at all how she thought the fallout would be like.  A recovered Andy telling the rest of them after getting her permission and a focused bloodless rescue of the rest of the Frost Sisters.  And Esme's sister's did not expect to see her sister to change so suddenly or present Andy as someone who wasn't afraid to give Esme a chance.  Or give her his feelings and was not afraid to say he loved her.
