For humans like most things in life are eaiser such including Soulmates. They share each others pain faintly, or having their name somewhere on their arm or if they're very lucky know exactly their soulmate is if they are in close proximity.

But for mutants it was a difficult and eccentric process that varied due to separate abilities and mutations. It can have numerous signs and methods that can be quite clear or vauge.

A man whose soulmate has bright green hair would have a green patch appear the morning they meet. A man whose soulmate has special eyes or markings would have flecks visible in their eye color and gain a sudden marking.

Powers are linked along with thoughts and pain evenly. Which doesn't make it any else worse. Highly unlikely mutants who are Soulmates have abilities that go together or can work in harmony.

Current status and when exactly their abilities awakened make it even worse. For mutants with a partner developing their power much later it could be a long wait or a sudden overwhelming experience.

But if one is a telepath or have a destructive ability brought on by stress it's the worst imaginable. Both of them and your totally screwed.

Esme Frost at first ignored her soulmates pain, the loneliness and the humiliation. She had to worry about her family and the fight against those who would destroy them. She didn't want to be sharing information, plans and her past with someone she didn't know and might never understand.

But when she found out it was a Strucker that changed things. She could focus on his memories and notice what Andrew or Andy as someone called him overlooked. His family had a connection to the Hellfire Club and his sister was a mutant.

She couldn't exactly contact him telepathically now. She had to be sure he was a mutant as well. But she could share a few minor thoughts now and then. It was better for him not to be in the dark or totally alone. It couldn't hurt her to help him a little bit.

For Andy it was something that he desperately needed. His parents and his sister took so long noticing what was wrong. Lauren was spending less time with him and he had no one. Then she started giving him small things to think about. She changed his understanding of a lot of things.

Lauren was a mutant and she was afraid of revealing it. Andy understood why his sister was so estranged lately. He started disagreeing with his father's job and couldn't stand how his parents talked about mutants.

His soulmate was a mutant that's how she shared all of this with him. Andy could count on her but she wouldn't reply. But she knew and it was enough.

Then the dance happened and he just lashed out at the people holding him down and laughing at him. Esme nearly blew her cover and nearly got the group she waa hidden among discovered.

Then she reached out to him and they he learned her name. Esme and she was one of triplets two of which were captive. She talked to him about the threats his family could face and what was the world like to him now.

He shared his thoughts about punishing humans and go against the rules left behind by the X-men. She told him of another resistance one willing to cross the line.

They met at the Underground and saw each other physically. Esme knew he wasn't just the vulnerable loner that was fighting back others saw him as. She saw him as a Von Strucker destined for something more. Andy saw someone who was cold, beautiful, and who knew it wasn't about good and evil. It wasn't just survival it was about tearing down this world with those who stood against them.

When they banded together going against the Underground freeing her family. And when those agents felt both physical and mental pain that happened in union Esme and Andy knew they were right.

Not just in how to deal with but they were meant for each other.
