Empty
Warning Character death and angst up ahead.
Esme was warned once about reading someone's mind or being in their heads right before they got into an accident or before they were about to die. It would be a traumatizing experience that could have a permanent influence for the rest of her life knowing evey second, every thought and every regret or sensation of pain someone felt in their last moments.
One the outside it would be at most a couple minutes but mentally a telepath could be screwed up for life effecting her capabilities. But what was really hurting Esme was feeling what Andy was going through.
Blood ran down his shirt and sleeve and Esme tried her best to relax him and stop the bleeding. He had a horrible open gash on his chest going past his stomach with slash marks on both wrists. An abomination created to hunting down mutant children was unleashed nearly killing them both. It was practically mindless and Andy was the one who took it down. Not without multiple injuries from razor-toothed metallic teeth and curved barbed claws.
But she couldn't stop the blood covering her hands or Andy's thoughts in her mind.
'I couldn't even apologize to my parents..To Lauren and j-ust tell them how much it hurt me to leave. I couldn't make a impact or something to show I'm not weak. I'm dying a burden.'
When Andy saw his entire life flash before his eyes Esme started speaking with tears in her eyes." You weren't a burden Andrew. You accomplished everything the Hellfire Club tossed at you." With every word she saw every experience in Andy's life that should have been longer.
From playing X-men with Lauren to leaving his family. From waiting for his dad to come home from work to them trying to patch things up at the Underground. Every bully, every humiliation and every obstacle he encountered. Every time his parents were there for him. Every time he missed his family and every single regret.
" You are strong Andy I've been seeing everything happening in your life. Every time you've been labeled and ignored. I've been hearing every thought even your last ones." Andy couldn't speak but he smiled but Esme could hear what he wanted to say before it was too late.
He glad he could share this moment with at least one person he cared about. Someone who could pass on what he wanted to say. Who could tell the honest truth everything in his thoughts.
Then she felt nothing from the boy who followed her. The boy she partially manipulated and who she knew now everything about. She felt grief, guilt and empty.
Imagine knowing everything you wanted to know about someone's life and there feelings toward you but by then it's too late. Your left empty unable to respond or share.
