Esme was unresponsive as she had been for weeks since that battle with the telepath.  Opening up her own mind letting herself take the mental and telepathic blows amd damage instead of her sisters. Andy had personally beat the crap out of that guy. He was the one who kept shouting for Esme to wake up. Along with Esme's sisters he was the only one who visited her. Looked in on her daily. He owed it to her.
