Special Chapter: The First Christmas A Year Later

Leafy sat on the sofa, a warm glass of hot chocolate in her free hand. She gently sipped it, a cold aura radiating from her posture. The objects surrounding her couldn't help but stare.

They never would have imagined Leafy, the object they once disliked, could turn into something so...interesting. Most of them wanted to talk to her, but were too scared to.

Well, except for her usual group of friends, who causally walked over to her. They seemed to have no trouble talking to her at all. Taco sat beside her.

"Hey! Four booked a pretty cool venue, huh?" She asked, attempting to make causal conversation. Leafy nodded, and avoided looking her in the eye.

However, it was subtle. No one would be able to tell that's what she was doing, unless she clarified. "Mhm." Taco scooted slightly closer to her.

"Everyone seems excited to see you here." She said, casting a glance to one object who was staring. Leafy lowered her cup slightly.

She let out a small breath, and it turned into a small puff of mist, before disappearing. Her mouth opened slightly, as she reached to cover it.

"Why...?" She yawned. Taco chuckled. "Well, I mean..." She winced slightly. "You know..." Leafy shifted slightly in her seat, her emotions unreadable.

"Right, my magic. Or, when I still had it..." She sat her cup down on the coffee table, and leaned back in the chair. "I'm afraid I'm a bit tired right now..."

Taco looked at her. "But we just started! Don't you want to stick around a bit longer?" Leafy shook her head slightly. "I'm not going to lie. I'm very uncomfortable."

She stood up, but Taco grabbed her hand. "Come on, just one more hour..." She looked at her in the eyes. "...please?" Leafy could feel her heart skip a beat slightly.

Her blush was hidden as she concealed her emotions. "Alright." She said, without stuttering. "One more hour." Taco smiled, and lead her towards the big fireplace.

"I'm so glad you decided to stay!" Leafy smiled at her, and for once, she didn't feel depressed. Admittedly, her energy was still low, but people seemed to like her that way, oddly enough.

Maybe it made her mysterious, or something? She focused back on Taco. "You seem very persistent about getting me to be here for Christmas Eve..."

Taco looked back at her, a light blush on her face. "Okay, so what's the reason?" Taco looked away, pulling her beside the fireplace. "Well..." She began.

"If you wanna know the truth...I've wanted to spend Christmas like this ever since we became friends." She admit. "I figured it would be a fun experience for all of us."

Taco chuckled slightly. "This was before your...um...accident...so I didn't know if we'd ever be able to have a normal Christmas together."

She stared at Leafy, intertwining her fingers with her own. "I just wanted to experience it with you." Leafy was a bit taken back.

What did she do to deserve a friend like her?

She looked away, feeling slightly guilty. "Oh..." Taco nervously let go of her hand. "Sorry if that made you uncomfortable..." Leafy was quick to reply.

"Oh, no no, I'm just so confused." She told her, as she looked back at her. "Why me?" Taco frowned slightly. "Huh?" Leafy shifted in her seat.

"Why did you want to have Christmas with me? I've done so many bad things in the past..." Taco gave her a sympathetic smile, sliding her hand over Leafy's.

"That's in the past now, I know it is." Taco told her. "It's about time to forgive." Leafy glanced towards the others. A few of them were not so subtly staring in wonder.

"Well, they certainly seem to forgive me." Taco shook her head. "Not them." She said, causing Leafy to look at her in confusion. "What do you mean?"

Taco pulled her into a hug, firmly locking her arms around Leafy's form.

"It's time you forgave yourself."

Leafy's eyes widened slightly, as she grabbed the hem of her gloves, tightly pulling them down on her hands. "I-I...see..." She mumbled slightly.

A bright blush scattered across her face, and she stared off to the side, hugging Taco back. The hug was broken when Loser walked up to them.

"Bad news, the tree won't arrive on time." He told Taco, as she let go of Leafy. "What?!" She frowned, crossing her arms. "I'm sorry, it was lost to an icy pond."

Loser sighed, putting a hand on her shoulder. Taco looked down. "B-But...the tree is the most important part!" Leafy looked at her, then towards the door.

A look of determination suddenly crossed her face. "I'll be back in a minute." She said, sprinting off before Taco could stop her. The two glanced at her escaping figure.

They both watched in confusion as she left. "Now what could she be up to...?" Loser questioned under his breath, letting go of Taco.

Taco leaned against the wall, a sad look on her face. Gelatin was beside her, holding a tall glass of eggnog. "And then Lollipop was like: 'This is coming out of your paycheck'!"

He laughed, wiping a stray tear from his eye. Taco sighed. "Aren't you a little young to be drinking this stuff?" She attempted a joke, pointing to his glass.

Gelatin rolled his eyes, playfully elbowing her. "Hey, Gelly's had a rough night." Taco chuckled slightly. "'Gelly's' going to have a drinking problem if he doesn't cut back."

He pat her back. "Glad to see you're feeling better." Taco smiled slightly. "Yeah, about that..." She looked away, frowning. "I'm still pretty upset about this."

Gelatin sat his eggnog on a nearby table. "Hey, you couldn't help it!" He reassured her. "Who knew a piccolo could break ice?!" Taco stared at him with a deadpan expression.

"It wasn't the piccolo that broke the ice, it was the reindeer that heard it..." Gelatin chuckled sheepishly. "Right...cause of the big stompy hooves..."

Taco sighed again. "I just feel like it's my fault..." She told him. He frowned. "What? No! Why do you feel that way?!" He asked. Taco covered her eyes with her arm.

"I just wanted Leafy to have a good Christmas...and everyone knows the tree is the most important part..." Taco heard loud slurping.

She uncovered her eyes, turning to face Gelatin. He was nervously looking away, downing his eggnog with a fast pace. She rose an eyebrow.

"Gelatin...?" He was quick to respond. "No! Nope! No secret here!!" He nervously chuckled. Taco stared at him, about to ask him what he was going on about, when the doors flew open.

Leafy walked in, walking over to the two. Gelatin smiled. "Gotta go, bye!" He quickly said, dashing off. Taco looked between the two in confusion.

Once Leafy was close to Taco, she held out her hand. "Follow me." She said, as Taco blushed slightly. She grabbed her hand, and walked towards the door.

"Close your eyes." Leafy told her, and she did so. Taco could feel the cold breeze rush past her, and she shivered. "Where are we going?"

Leafy intertwined her fingers with Taco's. "It's a surprise." They continued to walk, then they stopped. Taco could see a bit of light through her eyelids.

"Can I open them now...?" She hesitantly asked, and Leafy let go of her hand. "Yes!" Taco opened up her eyes, gasping as they were flooded with a blue light.

A tall, crystal tree was towering over them, decorated with snowflake ornaments and light blue lights. Everything was made of ice.

She smiled, turning to face Leafy. "How did you...?" She chuckled. "Well, I did have ice magic at one point." She explained. "So I did pick up a few skills along the way."

Taco hugged her, feeling Leafy wrap her arms around her. What she didn't see, was that Leafy was missing her gloves.

It was truly the best Christmas they both had ever had.
