ITU Chapter 8: What Do You Know About Love?

A sharp pain rushed through Four's head. He hissed, clutching it lightly. As he came to, he noticed he was gently being pulled up. Four opened his eyes.

Taco was staring, slightly concerned. "Damn, did that book really use up your energy like that?" She asked, as Four stood up. "Not the book, just the spells."

He looked around, seeing said book at his feet. He picked it up, placing it in the pocket of his coat. Finally, he stretched, moving his limbs outward.

Balling his hands into fists, he yawned, his sharp teeth showing. "Okay, we need to find her." He said, looking at the group. "Do not split up. These woods are deadly."

They nodded, and began to walk deeper into the woods.

Firey walked over to Coiny, clutching a small box in his hand. "Coiny." He whisper-yelled. He looked over. Firey made a motion that implied he wanted to talk alone.

They slowed down, letting the group walk farther ahead. "What do you need?" Coiny asked. Firey showed him the box. Coiny's eyes widened, as he awkwardly laughed.

"Uhhh, I'm flattered, but-" Firey rolled his eyes. "No- No." His voice cracked slightly, as he coughed. "It's not for you, I know you're dating Pin." He said.

"I was thinking...when we find Leafy...I'd propose to her..." He smiled, clutching the box. "It's been 2 years...don't you think she'll say yes?" Coiny nervously winced.

"No." Taco said, causing them both to flinch. She was glaring at Firey. "After all the pain you've caused her for years, you're lucky she's even tolerating you!"

She stormed over to him. He glared back. "Well, at least we have years going for us!" He snapped back. "You only met her 2 years ago!" Taco smirked, crossing her arms.

"Yeah, but at least I'm not crazy enough to ask her to marry me!" She smiled, slightly looking away. "If I was going to ask her anything, it would be something sensible."

She looked back at him, rolling her eyes. "You know, like a date?" Firey tensed, as he felt his flames grow larger. "Wha-" He grit his teeth.

"And how is a date a more sensible option?!" He asked, clenching his fists. Taco stared at him, unamused. "It's more sensible than asking her to marry you after years of not talking to her."

Coiny stepped in between the two. "Okay, lets just go catch up with the group..." He started. Firey gently pushed him aside.

"You've got opinions on my life and my relations..."

Firey started, as Taco crossed her arms.

"But let me tell you what:"

Taco rose an eyebrow.

"Okay, enlighten me."

Firey smiled, placing a hand to his chest.

"Love is the one thing that has zero complications, and I can trust my gut!"

Taco turned away from him, walking back towards the rest of the group.

"Okay, you frighten me."

Firey huffed, running after her.

"Some people know their hearts, the minute true love starts!"

She turned back to face him, unamused expression.

"Some people read a lot of books."

Firey nearly bumped into her, but skid to a halt.

"I-I like books!"

He continued beside Taco.

"Some people simply know, when true love says hello!"

Taco huffed, mumbling under her breath.

"Some folks are taken in by curly locks, and princely looks..."

Firey gasped.

"Do I have princely looks? I guess we agree on that one!"

Taco stared at him, deadpan look on her face.

"Right...speaking of looks, what color eyes does Leafy have?"

Firey crosses his arms smugly.

"Dreamy!"

Taco facepalmed.

"All I'm saying is when you go climb a mountain, you don't just jump straight to the top!"

Firey cut in.

"If it's true love, you can!"

Taco stood her ground.

"There's scaling and scrambling, and too many steps for counting...And the work doesn't stop!"

Firey smugly smiled.

"Maybe for you."

Taco glared at him, sighing.

"Love's not an easy climb, you have to take your time!"

Firey smiled, showing her the small box again.

"We get a whole life, that's the plan!"

Taco threw her arms in the air.

"THAT'S NOT A PLAN!"

She pointed at him.

"Love's not a thing you get! It's work and tears and sweat!"

Firey walked past her, fanning his face.

"So says a sweaty, smelly, mountain woman."

Coiny huffed, trying to catch up to them. "Taco's not from the mountains, what are you talking about...?"

They ignored him, continuing their argument.

"Oh, what do you know about love?!"

They sang together, not noticing the concerned looks from the others.

"What do you know about love?!"

"What do you know about love?!"

Taco continued forward, passing Four without even realizing it. Pin leaned over, whispering to Four. "Uhh...is bursting into song more common than I thought?" He sighed, face palming. "Yep..."

The two continued to sing.

"What do you know about love?!"

"What do you know about love?!"

Taco whipped around to face him.

"Have you even kissed a girl?"

Firey opened his mouth to speak, but Taco interrupted, smirking.

"I mean a living girl?"

Firey's face fell slightly.

"Oh."

Taco continued to sing, feeling smug, and Firey joined along.

"What do you know about anything, anything?!"

She stared ahead, looking at an old bridge.

"Anyone with half a brain would have worn some winter gear."

Firey retaliated.

"Anyone with half a life would have had more friends than just these three!"

Taco started to cross the bridge, gritting her teeth.

"I do!"

She growled, clutching the ropes.

"Any fool headlong is gonna bang their head!"

Firey stopped, sensing something wrong with the bridge.

"Any fool who doesn't jump right now, is probably gonna end up dead!"

Taco was about to turn and face him, but the plank under her snapped.

She gasped, clutching onto the rope. Firey grunted.

"Like I said! You okay there?"

Taco tsked. "I've been better..." Firey started to pull her up. "You should have listened to me, I know danger when I see it." He gasped.

"Ha! Just like I know love when I see it!" He pulled her up, only for the plank he was standing on to crack. She snatched him before he could fall.

"Thank you..." She said, as Firey hung upside down. He chuckled. "That's not quite how I thought we would end up..." She snickered.

"Just goes to show you have to think things through in life...and in love." She said, and he sighed. "Touché..." Taco glanced over to the other side of the cliff.

"Brace yourself, I'm gonna toss you over there." She said, swinging Firey by his ankle. She launched him, and he screamed, landing on the grass.

Taco hopped over, and leaned on a nearby tree.

Firey started at her, standing up.

"...I'd like to point out that we've come a good long way here..."

He started again, avoiding direct eye contact.

"And that...wow...you're pretty strong."

He admit, crossing his arms. Taco continued.

"I've done this once before. You've saved my life just now..."

She huffed, looking away from him.

"I guess I gotta say here...that my first impression...was wrong."

Firey turned to stare at her in shock.

"And see? You're nice!"

Taco looked at him.

"That jump was pretty brave."

Firey smiled, putting his hands on his hips.

"Your catch was quite a save."

Taco, walked over to him, crossing her arms.

"You've got some guts."

First thought for a second.

"You've got some brains!"

Taco chuckled.

"Thanks."

They both continued.

"With miles and miles to go,"

"I guess it's nice to know that I can trust you."

"Though the question still remains:"

They stared at each other, skeptically.

"...What do you know about love...?"

Taco stared him down.

"...Just be careful..."

They both continued.

"What do you know about love?"

Firey crossed his arms.

"Have a little faith."

They both sighed in frustration.

"At least we know one thing: this trip should be interesting!"

"What do you know about love?!"

They walked away from the cliff.

"What do you know about love?!"

They both finished, and heard a clap. The two looked to the side. Four and Coiny stared at them, unamused, while Pin was smiling and clapping.

"Wow, I love musicals!" She said, as Four raised an eyebrow at the two. "Is your angry duet done?" He asked. Firey sheepishly rubbed the back of his head.

"Wait, I thought the bridge broke?" Taco asked, as Four pointed to something. "There was a rope ladder." Taco paused. "There was another path?!"

Four chuckled. "You would have known that if you weren't singing at each other." He motioned for them to follow along. "Come on, we have a whole forest to comb through."

They nodded, following him. Although, after a few minutes, Taco stopped, letting the rest of her friends walk ahead. She quietly thought to herself...asking herself one question.

"What do YOU know about love...?"

————————————————————————

(A/n): Finally! Sorry this one took so long. I'm finished with one of my classes! Now I only have one left! Then, I'll be able to update more frequently!

So now Leafy's friends enter the forest!

And yes-

The song is from the broadway show-
I did change one of the lyrics, because Taco doesn't have a reindeer friend-

But I thought it would especially fit here, because both Firey and Taco have different ideas about what love is, especially when it comes to Leafy!

So, yes-

There might be more songs from the musical-

Because yes-

It really depends on if they fit in the context of the story, which this one does, so-

But there will be a combination of songs from the musical and the sequel.

But I hope you enjoyed this chapter!

Thank you for reading!
