ITU Chapter 6: Acceptance
Leafy cautiously followed X as he lead her through the halls. She was slightly on edge, after seeing him completely shift tones back in the dining hall.
He was humming cheerfully, skipping as he looked around. "Now...it should be here somewhere..." He said, as he came to a halt. Leafy stopped, as X threw his hand into the air.
A door appeared, and opened. Leafy flinched back in shock, as X looked at her. "Here we are!" He said, grabbing her hand and pulling her inside.
The doors closed, and it was pitch black at first. Then, light blinded her, as they stepped into a new room. After her eyes adjusted, Leafy glanced down, and gasped.
There were several other objects below them, chatting, and training. They, like her, had elemental powers. She shook her head in disbelief, as she noticed one detail.
None of them had ice powers.
Leafy turned to face X in confusion, as he smiled down at the objects. He looked like a proud parent watching their child at a ballet recital.
"Look at how good they're getting." He said, as he dodged a splash of water flying at him. "My students, my precious students!" He said, holding his face with both hands.
He looked at Leafy, a smile still on his face. "You are the only other student with ice powers here." He said, as she backed away slightly. He chuckled.
"Of course, you've learned to control your powers faster then any of my other students too..." X sheepishly looked away. "So, I can't really teach you much there."
Leafy glared at him. "What does this have to do with being my new home?!" X sighed, his smile falling. "Look at them." He said. She reluctantly glanced back down.
A few students were struggling to maintain control. "Sure, the parasite might have left, but it doesn't seem to matter." He started. "We are still capable of hurting those close to us..."
A baseball started to levitate a chunk of the ground, only to lose control and send it flying towards the ceiling. It crashed through, and never landed.
"Every one of us has had the same idea of running away to prevent hurting our friends. Even you did, Leafy." He said, looking at her. He smiled, starting to walk away.
"So, why stay with the powerless?" X asked, as Leafy followed. "We aren't alone, we have each other! We all understand the struggle of controlling our powers!"
He turned to face her. "Especially since they are controlled by how we feel!" He laughed. "Nobody can control feelings! It's impossible!" Leafy backed away slightly.
X stepped forward. "That's why you're here, that's why everyone's here! It's just better if we don't leave at all!" X smiled, and Leafy noticed a few tears slip out from his eyes.
"This is our home. We are a family." He said, walking towards her. "Whether you like it or not." Leafy kept backing away, until she was up against a wall. She glared at him.
"You can't just isolate yourself from everyone!" She said, glancing to the side. "I learned that the hard way. My friends will find me, no matter what!"
X frowned, rolling his eyes and turning away from her. "No one leaves under my care!" He scoffed, quickly opening the hidden door. This time, it was the wall she was leaning on.
Leafy yelped, falling on her back. Someone helped her up, as X sighed. "Look Leafy," he started, "think about it...your friends are better off without you."
The person who helped her up hugged her from behind. "Accidents can and will happen... Do you really wanna hurt your friends again?" Leafy's face fell.
"Do you want her to get hurt again?" X asked, as Leafy's breath hitched. She knew he meant Taco. She stayed quiet, looking away from him.
X put his arms behind his back, giving Leafy a calm look. "I thought so." The person hugging Leafy let go of her. "Take Leafy back to her room, she needs to rest."
Leafy turned around, spotting Microphone. She nodded, and gently took Leafy's hand. They walked out of the room, and the hidden door closed behind them.
The only sound Leafy could hear were their footsteps against the icy floor. It took her a moment to process her feelings, but when she did, she felt angry.
Her hands frosted over, and she grit her teeth. Microphone shivered slightly, feeling the frost. Leafy looked up at her, noticing she had a strange smile on her face.
Microphone seemed oddly excited. She looked at Leafy, slight stars in her eyes. "What?" Leafy asked, as Microphone let go of her hand. She sheepishly rubbed the back of her head.
"Sorry...It's just that I rarely see ice magic!" She chuckled. Leafy stared at her in confusion. "Doesn't X use his powers?" Microphone shook her head.
"Other than for transportation, he usually doesn't use them." She told Leafy. "I don't know why he doesn't use them more often." Leafy crossed her arms.
She continued forward, but Microphone stopped her. "M-Maybe we could hang out sometime!" She said, as Leafy sighed slightly. "Sure. I don't have a choice anyways."
Microphone flinched slightly, but quickly regained her composure. "G-Great!" There was an awkward silence after that. Once they reached Leafy's room, they went their separate ways.
Microphone sighed slightly, walking back to one of the many rooms in the ice labyrinth. Paintbrush and Bottle were waiting for her. Paintbrush smiled, waving her over.
"How'd it go?" They asked, as Microphone sat next to the two. She slumped slightly. "Not great..." She admit, as Paintbrush put a hand on her shoulder.
"Hey, don't feel bad." They said. "You know ice users act cold towards others under huge emotional stress." Bottle nodded. "Yeah! I'm sure she'll come around eventually!"
Microphone smiled slightly, before nodding herself. "Yeah...maybe we should invite her to hang out with us tomorrow." They agreed with her, and the three began to plan.
Four opened his book, glaring at the thorny bushes. The others were dodging the sharp branches jutting out at them, some of them screaming.
Four's eyes started to glow white, as his jacket rapidly waved in the air. A strange magic was flying through the air, combining with Four's regular abilities.
He started to chant, holding his non metal hand in the air. The magic seemed to be sucked in, and the thorn bushes stopped. A glowing white arch appeared in between two of the bushes, parting them to make a new path.
They quickly ran inside, dragging Four with them. When they were finally through, he dropped the book, and the path closed. Four fell to his knees, panting heavily.
He took deep breaths, nearly choking on the air. "Son of a-" He coughed, falling to the ground. The world around him spun, and his vision grew dark. He passed out.
