ITU Chapter 2: I Can Hear You

Leafy covered her ears as she grit her teeth, angrily staring at the window. The voice had been bothering her for weeks! She was unable to think clearly.

"Ah-Ah Ah-Ahhhh"

"Oh, fuck off!" She hissed, snow blasting onto her face accidentally. She shook her head, the snow falling off onto her pillow. "I just wish you'd leave me be..."

"Ah-Ah Ah-Ahhhh"

Leafy got up, slamming her window shut. "I'm not interested in whatever you're calling me for!" She sighed, flopping down on her bed. She rolled onto her back, staring up at the ceiling.

"This better not mess up my plans with everyone tomorrow..." she said, smiling. Soon enough, she fell asleep.

Taco walked beside Leafy, a bright smile on her face. "It's kinda cold out here." She said, looking at her. Leafy chuckled slightly, nodding. "Yeah...it is."

Walking into the park, Taco was sure to hold the door open. "You're doing a lot better too!" She mentioned, as Leafy walked inside. "I guess you're right."

They walked together, as the rest of their friends waited by a large tree. Four waved to them, as the wind blew his jacket. They ran over to them.

"The winds sure are restless, huh?" Four asked. Taco nodded. "Yeah, they've been crazy lately, haven't they?" Leafy sat next to Firey. "Is that why I'm hearing the voice?" She quietly thought.

"I'll say." Coiny laughed. "Reminds me of when Leafy still..." He paused. Wincing, he slowly turned to look at Leafy. Four let a slight laugh out.

"How's that foot taste, Coiny?*" He joked, as Coiny started to apologize. "Sorry Leafy." She rolled her eyes, a slight smile on her face. "Don't be, I can't blame you for remembering that event."

Pin pulled a cake out of the picnic basket. "Cheesecake, anyone?" Everyone cheered. "Hell yeah!" Coiny cheered, while Taco's eyes practically lit up.

As Pin started to pass out the slices, Leafy looked at Firey. "Hi." She said, surprising him. "H-Hi me?" She chuckled. "Yeah?" Firey smiled.

"Well...I'm just surprised you're on speaking terms with me." He laughed, blushing slightly. "I thought you didn't forgive me." Leafy placed her hand on his, and smiled kindly.

"Oh, I still don't." His face fell slightly. "It'll be years before I fully forgive you." She elaborated. Her grip became a little tighter. Firey could see she was starting to snap slightly.

"But, I'll forgive you sooner then I'll ever forgive mys-" "Leafy..." She flinched, returning to reality. Covering her face in shame, she started to apologize.

"I...I'm sorry guys." Firey put a hand on her shoulder. "Leafy, stop apologizing." He said, trying to cheer her up. "It was never your fault to begin with."

She sighed. "Firey, everything I've done has lead up to the disaster-" Someone covered her mouth. Four was glaring at her, hand over her mouth. "Shut."

He simply said, removing his hand. "But-" "No." Everyone stared at Four in shock. He suddenly smiled, the glare disappearing. "Now eat some cheesecake and forget about it."

Leafy put a piece into her mouth, quite shocked herself. Taco broke the tension. "Okay! So, charades again tonight?" She asked. Everyone nodded.

Leafy nodded as well, finally feeling better.

"Ah-Ah Ah-Ahhhh"

Oh of fucking course the voice would come back now. She sighed, looking in the direction it came from. Taco seemed to notice Leafy had drifted off.

She looked where Leafy was staring, but saw nothing. She scooted closer to her. "...You okay?" She asked, startling her. "Yeah!" Leafy replied, turning to face her.

She stared back behind her. "Just...thought I heard something." Taco smiled, putting a hand on her's hesitantly. Leafy didn't seem to notice.

But Firey did.

He looked at her with a slight glare. Taco just rolled her eyes. Leafy didn't seem to notice this, and was still staring at something. "I'm gonna go check something."

She got up, walking towards the edge of the forest. Four got up, intending to follow her. "Stay low." He said to the others. He could sense something was up.

Leafy walked to the edge of the forest, the voice getting louder.

"Ah-Ah Ah-Ahhhh"

She felt entranced, as the voice suddenly started to seem less annoying. "Why me...?" She asked out loud, nearly reaching the bushes.

"Ah-Ah Ah-Ahhhh"

Leafy stepped closer, noticing the bushes weren't the ordinary kind. They were completely made of thorns. She outstretched her hand, reaching for the bush closest to her.

She was suddenly dragged away, being lifted up. Four carried her over his shoulder, practically teleporting back to the others, with his speed.

"I don't think so." He said, setting her down. "I don't know what's going on, but whatever's in those woods is bad news." He said, scolding her.

"I forbid you to step near those woods again!" Leafy stared at him for a moment. Everyone stared at him blankly. Suddenly, Leafy spoke.

"Forbid?" She asked, unsure if she had heard him correctly. Four nodded. "Forbid. I'm not letting you out of my sight that easily..." She stood up, looking at him.

"Let me get this straight: you are forbidding me to go near some bushes?" She asked, as the tension grew thick. "Maybe we better call it a night-" Firey started.

Four held up his hand, shaking his head. "Whatever you think you heard isn't worth it." He said, pointing to the forest. "Don't go looking for things that aren't there."

Leafy scoffed. "Since when did you control my life?!" Four got closer to her. "Since now, it's clear you still aren't getting better!" She glared at him.

She could feel part of her fingers frost over. She took a deep breath. "I could say the same about you, Four." Leafy said. Everyone tensed.

"You've been pretending everything was fine after the incident!" She said, as Four glared at her. "And I know you still blame yourself for the death of your fi-"

A deafening crack rang across the park.

Everything went quiet. Four's glare turned into a shocked expression, as he covered his mouth. Everyone stared at Leafy in shock. It took her a minute to process the stinging pain on her face.

Slowly, she reached for her face, pressing her hand against the mark on her face. She was just as shocked as everyone else, and time seemed to slow down.

Four had slapped her.

"Leafy, I-" She started to walk away, feeling a wave of confusing emotions wash over her. "Leafy, wait up!" Taco said, running after her. Pin followed behind.

"What the hell, Four?!" Firey stood up, glaring at him. Four was unresponsive, tearing up. He felt his whole world crumbling down. He started to run after her.

Leafy sat on the edge of her bed, staring at her hands. She wanted to play around with her magic, but given that all her friends were in the mansion, she was scared she would get caught.

She wanted to wait til they were all asleep. Someone knocked on the door. "If it's you, Four, go away." The door opened. Taco and Pin peeked their heads in.

"Hey..." they both said. Leafy looked at them. "Oh...hey guys..." She said, as they sat on the bed with her. Pin was holding a familiar book in her hand.

"I thought it might help if I brought our favorite book along..." Pin confessed, as looked at her, confused. "Favorite book?" She asked, as Pin handed it to her.

"Our mothers would read this to us when we would spend the night together." Leafy explained, smiling softly at the memory. Taco flipped through the book, landing on a page.

"What is 'The NorthWind Lullaby'?" She asked, as Leafy's eyes lit up. "That was the lullaby my mother used to sing us! Remember Pin?" She looked towards her.

Pin smiled.

"Where the North Wind, meets the sea..."

Leafy looked at Taco, smiling.

"There's a river, full of memory..."

Taco smiled at them, quickly glancing at the book.

"Sleep my darling, safe and sound..."

The three of them then sang together.

"For in this river, all is found..."

Leafy smiled, tearing up. "She always had a beautiful voice..." Pin nodded, leaning on her shoulder. "Our mothers always made the prettiest duets."

They both giggled. "...I miss them." Pin nodded. "I know...two best friends, dying together on the same day...your father and my other mother were devastated."

Leafy frowned slightly, wrapping an arm around her. She wrapped her other arm around Taco. "...I'd do anything to have that back." They stared at her with a look of worry.

"I just want to relive the good days, before Dream Island, before BFDIA..." She stopped, hugging them tighter. "...No..." She shook her head.

"I don't regret the parasite." She said smiling, looking at Taco. "I never would have met you..." Taco felt her heart skip a beat, and a blush rose to her cheeks.

She smiled, nodding. "Or my snowflakes... or would've been able to hang out with Firey and Pin again..." Leafy trailed off, as one person came to her mind.

She looked down, breaking off the hug between the three of them. "...Let's just go to bed, please." The two agreed, as they laid down on her bed.

Leafy laid down with them, unaware of what was to come next.

(A/n): *ever heard of the expression "putting your foot in your mouth"? That's what this line is referencing, Coiny didn't actually put his foot in his mouth. Basically , it means when you mess up your words or say something insensitive by accident.

But yeah, so here's the next chapter!

I'm having way too much fun writing these!

I'm thinking about posting more art I've drawn of the AU too! There's a ton of digital pieces though, so it will be most of my traditional work for now...

I also have an Incorrect Quotes chapter that might come out soon too, it just depends-

Thank you for reading!
